Chauncey Billups Initially Saw Clippers as Strange Fit

After the Knicks waived Chauncey Billups, the veteran made it clear he wanted to sign with the Heat or Lakers. But the Clippers claimed Billups, and the next day, they traded for Chris Paul. Chauncey tells Yahoo! how he initially didn’t see it working with Chris Paul: “‘My whole thing was if they were pursuing C.P., why would they get in my way?’ Billups said. ‘When they got me, the C.P. trade was off. Then it was back on, off, back on and then, boom, they get C.P. It made me more like, Why would y’all get in my way if that is what you were trying to do?’ [...] Don’t be surprised if Billups is handling the ball as much or more than Paul on offense – which would allow Paul to be a stronger scoring threat. Billups believes their backcourt partnership will get Paul some easy jump shots. [...] ‘It’s all good,” Billups said. ‘I’m going to do what I always do: Make the situation better than when I got here.’”

It was just the preseason, but they looked god damn great together.

the traditional team dynamic of pg -sg is being changed with the versatility of players ever improving, a situation like this would be great for Rose. I’m glad that Billups ended up in a good situation, hes been given a raw deal that past couple years.

I’m glad Billups is in a good spot. He’s bounced around so much in his career and he’s been a class act the whole way. Celtics, Nuggets, Raptors, Magic, Wolves, Pistons, Nuggets again, Knicks now Clips (did I miss any teams?) If Sterling didn’t own the Clips, I’d say he’s in the perfect spot to finish his career. CP is another dedicated leader who plays the game the right way on both ends and brings out the best in his teammates. Playing with one of the most athletic C/PF combos in the history of the game will put some bounce in his step and give him some wide open looks. Hopefully we see a Knicks-Clippers Finals this year!

strange, now clippers have 3 all star pgs.mo,paul and billups?

  • sam

really boboho? Mo Williams is definitely not an all-star point guard. When I hear “all-star point guard” i think of paul, d-will, rose, etc….not mo williams. He had some good stats on the Cavs, but not an all-star.

  • KoS

umm…. mo an all star? no way…

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

@sam – He was an All-Star in 2009, so yeah, really.

  • http://www.slamonline.com megatron

he was an all-star only because of lebron james, on any other team he would not have been, and even then he was still a replacement

    bahahah ^^^

boboho meant former allstar or at least i think he did, because i would bet the house he will never be an allstar again, but its good that they have depth at that position makes them a really dangerous team, they have a lot of firepower.

Im a die hard Laker Fan and i got to admit.. the Clippers look God-Damn Sexy Good this year they should be in the top 5 in the west. OKC DAL LAL SA LAC. Not only cuz of CP3 but they also got Caron Butler. Mo Williams off the bench. The only thing the Clips could use, is a savy veteran post player cuz Griffin and Jordan are young and bound to get in foul trouble sometime. Anyways though this is going to be an Awesome Season! Both in the Western and Eastern Conference!!
The east is stacked also!! MIA CHI NY BOS ORL… Indiana got better. I cant wait!! OMG!

  • DukeFromDeep

The Clips need a backup PF and centre though… Varejao anyone?

  • Michelle

Cook is playing pretty good in their 2nd unit and with Evans as a backup to Jordan i think their team is pretty much set!
I like their bench with Mo, Foye, Bledsoe, Gomez, Cook, Evans and Thompkins

  • sam

Right! He was a REPLACEMENT for some other guy, so nobody really voted for the guy. Like someone else said, LeBron made him look like an all-star. I can’t even put Mo Williams in the same category as Steven Francis or Marbury.

  • Jerome

Mo is lucky to be in the L. Unless CP3 or Mr. Big Shot get injured Mo will be on stand-by.

  • WHAT!

“Cook is playing pretty good in their 2nd unit” you have to be kidding. Brian Cook is one of the laziest, least talented players in the L. The boy can shoot 3′s

  • WHAT!

but that’s it. They should have just cut the dude and go after greg ostertag, or mark madsen, or Wilt Chamberlain’s corpse, or move CP3 to backup center (he will rebound more than that puss Cook will).

  • AL

    b cook, or kwaney Brown?
it could be worse, so take his 3′s….

  • Bradey

Love Chauncey and Paul! Not happy Chauncey isn’t in Detroit anymore, but I think he will be able to spread the court for the Clips and make everyone better as always! Under-rated and under appreciated as far as the media goes, but the players know what he brings and he gets a lot of respect around the league with the people that count.

  • Clipped

The Clippers Starting five is one of the best in the league at the moment on a whole-Think a slightly younger version of either 2011 mavericks or maybe a houston rockets team when they had Clyde Drexler-Talent wise but just not at exact postions if that makes sense.
The only other team right now that has the same sort of depth on there bench as the clippers is Bulls,Pacers and maybe the nuggets when they have full team chandler j.r smith etc. There bench has a former allstar on it possible starter on some teams mo williams,A promising player in bledsoe,Foye who can go for 15-20 if given the ball,a solid role player in gomes and a big man that can give you a three ball and is alrite from the free throw line-hes the complete opposite of dj when you think about it and hasnt got a big contract.
The only concern for the Clippers is can they stay healthy which will dictate their success:Pauls knee,Blakes knee,Carons legs and Billups back other than that Billups landed in a good place to finish his career in maybe 2-3 years if he wants to.

I started watching Billups game when he was in Detroit and since then has followed him everywhere. Such a Great team player! My favorite NBA player. Clippers are very lucky to have him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
