Dallas Mavericks to Sign Sean Williams

After losing Tyson Chandler and with no true center behind Brendan Haywood, the Mavericks are in the market for big bodies, and sources close to the situation say Dallas will sign former Nets forward Sean Williams. From ESPN: “After securing his release from Israeli club Maccabi Haifa over the weekend, Williams is scheduled to arrive in Dallas in time to complete his physical and join the team Wednesday after the Mavericks’ preseason finale in Oklahoma City. Sources said that the Mavericks plan to sign the shot-blocker to a two-year deal with only a partial guarantee for the second season. The Mavericks are very familiar with the Mansfield High alumnus after his strong season in 2010-11 for the D-League’s Texas Legends, who are co-owned by Mavericks president Donnie Nelson. Williams has been out of the NBA since 2010, when the Nets ran out of patience with the big man after a tumultuous two-plus seasons. But Mavs officials are confident that they can get the best out of Williams, given the year Williams spent playing for the Nelson-run Legends and with two former Nets veterans – Jason Kidd and Vince Carter — on the roster to mentor him.”

The return of Sean “SWAT” Williams. If he can get the minutes, this would actually be a pretty nice pick up.

Ugh… stop getting every single player that has something to prove. Mavs going to be a tough out in the Playoffs.

back when Sean was with the Nets, sometimes, especially when he got extended minutes, he had his Kenyon Martin (while with the Nets) moments. Just couldn’t keep it together. Who knows, he might do better with the Mavs.

he’s been playing in europe and has actually matured as a player.

Whilst they haven’t acquired any of those ‘sexy named superstars’, that Kobe likes; Sean WIlliams is a bit of a work horse, Mind you..I would have preferred to see the shortened 2011/12 season be labelled as, “THE RISE OF MAHINMI”

If its the dude im thinking of then i like this move, could spend all year on the bench but possibly could contribute some solid minutes.

dude’s a highlight reel waiting to happen, somewhat similar to chandler but a little smaller and with less defensive awareness I think.. Area 51 returns.
