DeAndre Jordan Signs 4-Year, $43 Million Offer Sheet from Warriors

DeAndre Jordan is gonna get paid one way or another this season. The Clippers have three days to determine if it’ll be them cutting Jordan’s checks, or the Warriors. (Hilariously, team consultant Jerry West tells the San Fran Chronicle that he’s not all that excited about DeAndre.) From Yahoo! Sports: “DeAndre Jordan has signed a 4 year, $43 million offer sheet with Golden State, agent Greg Lawrence tells Y! The sheet’s getting delivered to the Clippers now, and they’ll have 3 days to match the Warriors offer for the restricted free agent center.”

    Dude is getting ridiculously overpaid…

  • http://knicks.com Gametimeweezy

I’m on the Mark Jackson bandwagon if Deandre Jordan is on board.

  • Jono

and we thought the owners were complaining players were getting overpaid

  • billg

how does he get double what David West got?

  • iyciycc

because he is 6’11, 23 years old, athletic and strong on the interior, boards and blocks shots at a good rate which is what the warriors need. and if you cant draft according to your needs, then you have to make it up by overpaying in free agency ala david lee.

but this should make my warriors much better. deandre jordan is clearly an upgrade over andris biedrins and… well that’s their only center. ekpe udoh is listed at center but he won’t pan out, he’s already a year older than deandre jordan, and runs and moves like greg oden.

  • Downtownmbrown

@ billg they are making close to the same amount bro… Check how many years are on each contract

  • Allenp

    Not bad

  • Fletch213

Clippers please dont be dumb. Go after dalembert instead! 43Mil really??

  • Allenp

David West is getting more money per year in a shorter deal because he is older and coming off an injury.
This is the same thing perking got.

  • MikeC.

Didn’t we just have a lockout because teams were ridiculously overpaying players and the owners wanted rules to protect themselves from doing stuff exactly like this? What the hell was the lockout for?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

^ It seems the lockout was a time for David Stern to work on his hops… So he could snatch every deal out of the air on some LeBron James chase-down-style blocks.

  • http://knicks.com Gametimeweezy

Wow how is this ridiculously overpaid when can be just as productive as Chandler with starters minutes. It’s 40 million, not 140 million. Plus he’s 23.

  • MikeC.

He’s also allergic to anything but dunks on O and disappears in the 4th because he can’t hit free throws.

  • http://knicks.com Gametimeweezy

Good point. He doesn’t have to be an immediate low post scorer, they do need his athleticism next to David Lee, and Biedrins can’t shoot free throws either.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Is this a joke? A guy that has never played more than 30mins a game or avg. more than 8pts/8rbs is getting a 10+ million dollars a year salary? Oh….lawd.

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com Seth

@MikeC, we see you read Bill Simmons’s piece on Jordan’s free agency.

  • AD

athletic center that can block shots… fits right in………

  • Matt Park

Clippers should match. Have you guys sat down and thought about his game? Think about Tyson Chandler and what he brings to the table. He alters shots, crashes the offensive glass, and shoots a high percentage. He doesn’t eat up possessions, which makes him ideal on a team with players who shoot. DeAndre is still only 22 years old, learning the nuances of the NBA game. Regardless, he is a good low post defender (but does have lots of room to improve), good shotblocker, and rebounder. He averages 10.6 rebounds per 36 minutes a game. He is athletic, and has nowhere to go but up.

  • RunNGun

LMAO They should have went after Chandler. Do the Stevie Johnson touchdown celebration!

  • http://knicks.com Gametimeweezy

The number isn’t the 8ppg/8rb. The number is the 13pts/10rbs/2blks you need to get this year, and the 21pts/12rbs/4blks you get in year 4 when he’s reaching his prime. Or else offer less than 43 million dollars and stay with Biedrins?

  • Jono

Go on Stern! Do one of them LeBron-like chasedown blocks on this deal!

  • MikeC.

    @Seth – I did. It is apt.

  • MikeC.

What makes it even funnier is that his article predicts every ridiculous signing. He is the hoops Nostradamus.

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

@ Matt: He could be the next Tyson Chandler, or, more terryfyingly, he could be the next Eddy Curry.

  • DruNyce

All the cryin’ the owners did, to offer an unproven player this much money… SMH.. I understand you up the ante to discourage LAC from matching but hot damn.

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

Perfect signing for the Warriors. Blocks shots, athletic, rebounds, doesn’t demand shots. Also helps out the Clippers too, as it detracts from any distraction over the C spot with Kaman. Clippers would be better off letting him leave. They’re gonna want that $ when Griffin demands the max in 2 years time, Mo Williams decides he still wants to get paid, Bledsoe needs a re-up and they’re looking for another star player.

  • MikeC.

@Hursty – Kaman has a big-money contract, but he’s an expiring contract. He’s a valuable trade chip, so keeping Jordan is a good move for the Clips. The price tag is a little high though. Jordan is a good fit alongside Griffin and Gordon. He’s as good as gone though since the Clippers are owned by Donald Sterling.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

I can’t believe the same people that were against the owners and blamed their overspending as a cause of the lockout are now trying to justify this signing. I don’t care about Jordan’s potential or supposed defensive presence (the clipps weren’t that much better defensively with him in the lineup), the guy is overrated and now, overpaid.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Rockets wanted this guy badly… Not sure if they should outbid the Warriors now, though. He’s exactly waht houston needs though.

  • Heals

If DWest is getting 10mil a year I guess, but damn I don’t think I’m the only one having a case of Deju Vu? When’s that new CBA up 7yrs, right? Time to refill the bomb shelter…

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

I agree with the defensive potential that deandre jordan possess… however…. he isn’t worth this much. The clips are in a bind… overpay for this guy and save lots of money or let what could be one of the best, and tallest big man combos in the league in a few years in jordan, griffin, and kaman be broken apart.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

also cosign heals… tyson chandler is getting what 60 mil? these owners will NEVER learn

  • Matt Park

    A no-brainer… Clippers will match.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

Can a division rival sabotage a team’s payroll by intentionally signing its coveted free agent to a ridiculous offer sheet thereby forcing that team to match the amount and screw up its ability to sign other players. If so, the Warriors are smarter than I thought.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

*by overpay I mean DONT pay… lmao

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

Gametimeweezy are you serious? DeAndre Jordan averaging 21 12 and 4?

  • http://www.slamonline.com PapaDuck

Like someone said above, get Dalembert for no more than 30 mil. Or if they don’t mind spending but hey just don’t want to spend on him, they should go after Nene if he is still out there. And ESPN said Clippers are close to getting Chris Paul…..But if they get Paul matching this offer wont be THAT bad if they truly believe in him and think he can be the next big center than they should go for him. But they can truly use a better than average center to complete the team if they get Paul…. that is why I suggest Nene. He is better than average. They have to show Paul and Griffin that they are determine to keeping this team competitive that is the only way they will be able to resign Griffin and Paul. Basically they should ask Griffin should they pay for DeAndre Jordan or should they go after some one like Nene or even Gasol (Pau brother) next summer.

  • eZ

Too much money for Jordan, but if you go for Paul than you’ve got to match it. Why? First going for Paul rids you of Kaman, who btw earns about as much as Jordan will. Second if you really are serious about a contender than you’ve gotta go all the way. You need a shot blocker and rebounder to compliment Blake especially on D. Furthermore Pauls value will be increased dramatically by adding a pick setting, rolling, athletic running and alley ooping center. Blake will do that as well but can be exploited better by giving him iso’s as well. Lastly, in a couple of years EG and BG will be up for real contracts, so you’re gonna pay anyways, than you might as well try to field a complete championship-team, not a team that only makes it to the 2nd round of CF.
Jordan may grow into that contract, he can be a young Chandler.

  • MikeC.

@ez- if you owned the Clippers, everything you said would make sense. Donald Sterling owns the Clips, so it’s almost certain not to happen.

  • Drig

IF LAC doesn’t lose Eric when they get CP3, then matching this offer makes sense since those 3 are definitely gonna be getting most of the shots and plays run for them.

Not bad. But great job by the Warriors. Making Clips overpay one way or the other and screwing them if he turns out a dud.

And if Jerry West wasn’t too happy with him, I’m sure Sterling is gonna sign him!

iyciycc, nice. i’m glad there’s a warrior fan that gets it. i was mad last year the warriors took udoh instead of monroe (drafed immediately after), but it is what it is. udoh seemed to make some strides toward the end of the season. hopefully he continues to improve now that he’s fully healthy.
i can see why jerry isn’t too thrilled about jordan, but he’s the best option available of the remaining big men, especially for the warriors system. hopefully the clips don’t match.
