Deron Williams: 90% Chance He Re-Signs With the Nets

When DWill turned down the extension from his current team last week, anyone who cares about the Nets becames a little nervous, and led to quite a bit of speculation about his future (though it made all the sense in the world for Williams to hold out for a bigger payday next summer.) Deron, though, says that he’s likely to re-up with the squad once it moves to Brooklyn. From Nets Daily: “In an interview that could barely have been scripted any better by the Nets organization, Deron Williams told WFAN that he intends to stay with the Nets and that chances of his staying are 90%. ‘My plan is to stay. Hopefully we can get some good talent to where I can stay.’ WIlliams told Evan Roberts. Asked what the percentage is of him stay,’ he responded, ’90 percent.’ Williams also called the Nets organization ‘perfectly run from top to bottom,’ adding that he ‘loved’ Billy King and Avery Johnson and has found Mikhail Prokhorov ‘very passionate’ as an owner.”

deron stays, dwight comes to BK to play beside him. that would be sick.

if dwight stays in the east and cp3 comes east too, the all star games are going to be pretty one-sided..

  • Holiday

Never thought about that, good point. But if CP3 does go east somebody is getting snubbed at point guard!

That darn 10% always wins, Deron.

Not when it can cost you like $30 million.
That’s what the Nets can offer. Give him a real team, and the chance to earn an extra $30 million, and I would think they resign him.

Well if Dwight chooses the Nets, I’m sure that 90% will be 99%.

The Lakers are getting either CP3 or Dwight at somepoint.

  • NJ4Life

@nbk, just like the Knicks were getting Wade or Bron at some point…

Who said that? I am not talking about Free Agency. I am talking about a trade.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDNFKaq5vqw nbk

As I am reading/hearing it is already a competition between New Orleans and Orlando as to who is going to get the best deal from the Lakers. (could be rumors from the collective agents of DH & CP trying to stir the pot and grow their clients trade value, but still, it’s what is being reported by multiple sources)

He’ll be in NYK alright but w/the Knicks. The Knicks are getting everybody. LOL

nbk, serious question, who does LA even have that that orlando/NOLA would even want besides maybe bynum? If they are both going to rebuild then why would they want any of the lakers high paid aging players? even first round picks will be 25-30.

  • O

Dwight’s said before that NY is “too cold” for him. He’s going to LA one way or another.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDNFKaq5vqw nbk

Well since NOLA is looking for an owner, the best thing they can do is be a playoff team. If they can somehow get a combination of Gasol/Bynum/Odom (plus Steve Blake or Metta World Peace) and get rid of their albatross contract (emeka okafor) with Paul they will still be “competitive” while freeing themselves from some of their cap burdens. (They also can amnesty one of the players they take back from LA, like MWP for example). In the Orlando deal the Lakers have the ability to take back Gilbert Arenas without giving up a horrid contract in return. Allowing Orlando to amnesty Turkoglu and jump right back under the luxury tax. It’s not rebuilding, but it is also not paying $2.50 for every $1 with their current situation. (Plus they get an All-Star and a player with All Star potential in return, assuming they demand both Bynum & Gasol, which they will)

Looks like Soop’s been reading Wojnoloveforbonski’s column again

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDNFKaq5vqw nbk

Nope not at all. Is that what he said? Cuz I saw people saying he stopped twitter earlier (whatever that means, cuz that sh*t never stops), but didn’t investigate further.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Not sure what “stopped twitter” but he said in his column same thing you said in your 3:46 comment.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDNFKaq5vqw nbk

oh yea he must have been one of the people I read that from. I have seen prolly 10 tweets that said as much though.

  • http://www.slamonline.com megatron

alright cool, thanks for clearing that up for me. So if they trade for chris paul, they could potentially end up with a lineup of

    Odom or Gasol

    thats scary

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDNFKaq5vqw nbk

Yeah but their bench would be paper thin at that point. Resigning Shannon Brown & making a mid-level pitch to another swingman will be priority 1A & 1B. (Also I don’t think MWP is on the Lakers next season, one way or another)

  • ab40

the lakers arn’t getting anybody. Bynum is overrated and Odom is getting older and he’s still making them dumb moves with his head down trying to lebron his way to the free throw line.

  • O

Dwight said that NY is “Too cold” for him. He’s going to La La Land…

  • Holiday

If Dwight does go to LA hopefully its with the Clippers, could you imagine him and Griffin? If CP3 went he could just toss the rock at the basket and let them worry about who gets it! But please don’t give those ignorant Laker fans another “Super” team to gloat about!!!

  • bnets

the lakers will get kwame brown back

  • AD

if dwight does not want to play with one of the best point guards in the league because of cold weather, than forget him….. he can do the superman to L.A. I think the nets can land nene and if they do ,, brook and nene would be just fine…….

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

If the Lakers trade Bynum and Gasol for Dwight, would they actually be a better team next year?
I can see how it works moving forward, but just for next year I don’t know. If you lose both of them, their main advantage disappears.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I think it makes them better from the “we all know exactly what our roles are” perspective. With Mike Brown, it is hard to assume he will use Gasol & Bynum effectively while keeping Kobe happy. That team could basically implode if they hit a rough stretch. But if you get rid of emotional players like Lamar, Bynum, Gasol, MWP than Kobe can really take control of the team, Dwight can learn from a guy who won titles next to Shaq, the defense won’t regress at all with Mike Brown & DH. It is hard to say though if they will have the offensive/defensive balance that they have exhibited under Phil Jackson. But he also may be the reason more than the personnel
