Dwight Howard Wants Andre Iguodala, Monta Ellis or Josh Smith in Orlando?

According to Hoopsworld, Dwight Howard gave the Orlando Magic a list of players he’d like to play with: “The Magic could add Chris Paul, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant and Dwight would still not sign an extension, not because he doesn’t want to be in Orlando, but because under the new collective bargaining agreement it would be a horribly bad business decision. The new CBA allows veteran players to extend their deal to a maximum of four years, meaning at no time can your extension push you past four guaranteed years. Dwight has two more years on his contract with the Magic, with an option coming this summer. As of today, Dwight can only sign a two-year extension with the Magic, as this season and next would count towards the four allowed. Next summer Dwight (and Chris Paul and Deron Williams) could opt out and sign a new contract for five years. BY waiting until July, Dwight can sign for two more years than he can sign for now. So there will be no extension for Dwight. That said, the league’s best center by far still very much wants to be in Orlando, and he is willing to give them every opportunity to keep him. What that means to Dwight is that he wants the Magic to be contenders, and to that end Orlando has a short list of players they would like to add in an effort to return to contention. Atlanta’s Josh Smith, Philadelphia’s Andre Iguodala and Golden State’s Monta Ellis are on that list.”

Interesting he’d want to add Smith, since Atlanta and Orlando have had some interesting playoff series recently.
They’d be better off with Iguodala though. Especially if it allows the 76′ers to play Thad Young more. It benefits both teams.

No worries Dwight Orlando can get one of those easily … In return for you

Get them all! That would be one exiting team

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

Possibly they can get Ellis.. if Golden State accept Arenas and draft picks. Would it be possible to trade for Arenas, then use the Amnesty on him?
So many details need explaining out for the new trade/salary cap agreements.

Get them all! I wish. That would be one exciting team

  • Robert

Dwight is coming to the lakers yeahhhhhhh buddy

  • robb

He wants Josh Smith because besides being a very good player he’s also one of his best friends. Defensively these two would block lots of shots, but Dwight is gone, that’s the reality.

get all then trade dwight coward to bulls

  • jsmallz

what are you on go to the lakers be pointless for him to go…oh wait its hollywood so it changes the fact to get howard they would trade alll the sold big guys multiple just to make the magic HAPPY. So he becomes a lonly big guy.wait with a kobe to be taking a exit sooner rather than later. still got gas in the the tank but come on you act like hes gonna play forever. New coach and if you say chris paul yor dumb all they could have then the lakers would be the la three and scrubs.Lakers would be better off keeping the big men and team they have. Everyone is going dream team crazy. but you need the role players and good chemistry to stand behind them. What dwight wants is good though

  • JPMAZ

He’ll spend his career w/ the Magic. Rightly so too.

  • MrAir239

What dwight wants is very reasonable and I think that the magic will be better if they do get one of the players on dwight’s list

The Hawks are stuck as a back end playoff team with their current roster. I hate to say it, but as an Atlanta fan I wouldn’t mind seeing some change. We have to build around Joe and Al (one because of a dumb contract of course) and that leaves the inconsistent J-Smoove as our biggest trade asset. I’d go for Bass, Jameer, and a first rounder for Josh. Not a major downgrade at PF, an upgrade at PG while Teague hopefully continues to improve, and a late teens to low 20′s pick for Atlanta, and you keep Dwight happy in Orlando.

Getting Josh smith and Andre Iguodala both would be promising. And if they get Chris Paul in the off season or through trade Howard would have to stay because that would be a winning combination. But only thing is that they might have to give up too much to add three good player and they might end up taking a step back or over paying for a player; i.e see New York Knicks in the Carmelo trade

@Yolu, way too much for Josh Smith. If Magic give up all their trade assets to get him then they won’t be able to get any one else. Smith is good but he is not worth two starters and a first round pick; what are you smoking.

  • burnt_chicken

it’s awesome that Dwight is trying to dialogue with Orlando in a way that gives them a realistic chance to keep him. I salute his efforts wholeheartedly

yeah j-smoove and dwight are good friends, didnt they play aau ball together?

  • LA Huey

Two guys can’t shoot, the other won’t pass.

  • Riggs

    iggy would be perfect.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

They really don’t have a chance to add anyone like that. Dwight is gone.

  • BballLH13

People who say he is going to the lakers annoy me, when has ever said that he wants to go the LAKERS? As far as I’m aware he hasn’t.

  • LP

Just move dwight, they’ve made all these moves already and he still isn’t happy. He argues with refs like he is Jesus. just move him, get some players, some draft picks and rebuild. He is going to leave regardless…

  • YoLu

Obviously the trade is lopsided for Atlanta, but look at Orlando’s situation. If they don’t get Dwight some support, then he’s gone (and all the money he generates). They aren’t exactly in the driver’s seat. Plus, Dwight’s not asking for the world (or Chris Paul). He gave the Magic the names of 3 fringe All-Stars that have been shopped by their teams in the past, and could be obtained with the weak trade assets they have.

The Warriors turned down Rudy Gay for Monta Ellis. So that clearly can’t be matched by Orlando. That’s not happening. Philadelphia would need cap relief, they can’t take on a big contract, they already have 2 albatrosses on their roster (Nocioni & Brand), there’s no way they give away Iguodala just to take back an even worse contract. That’s not happening. — The Hawks are interesting because they do need a PG. But they also have no cap space, and would have to take back Turkoglu or Arenas to make any trade for Josh Smith work. Would they include Zaza Pachulia & Marvin Williams just to amnesty Arenas and make a run at a free agent next summer? No, prolly not. That’s not happening either. Can’t see it, Dwight’s gone.

  • misso

magic should get monta ellis & cp3 & we’ll be in the finals asap

  • Stop the madness

Atlanta doesn’t want anyone on the Magic. Stop saying to are Hawks fan when you are a Magic fan posing online as a Hawks fan.

I think Horford should be traded for Dwight straight up.

  • robb

“Dwight would still not sign an extension, not because he doesn’t want to be in Orlando, but because under the new collective bargaining agreement it would be a horribly bad business decision.” There you go.

  • http://www.kittywildeonline.com RunNGun

LOL @ D12… have the ORLANDO sign all these players and then pulls a LeChoke. It’s written in the stars…

  • http://www.listerblister.blogspot.com rainman10

Dwight will stay in Orlando. Iguodala is their most likely scenario, with a push for Deron Williams next summer, because Paul will have already been traded by then to another team that won’t be willing to risk letting him go. Magic fans shouldn’t panic. Dwight wants to stay, it’s up to management now.

  • ryan

josh smith such an underrated player.damn he’s my favorite PF

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

^Why is he underrated? He doesn’t have a jump shot. He isn’t as good at defense as he use to be. He isn’t consistent….. Sounds like a player that would be overrated if your saying he’s spectacular.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Monta Ellis is gonna have a blast playing for Mark Jackson. I think Mark will be a good coach, but how many times have you heard him on TV saying: “Give the ball to your best player and move out the way”? He’s gonna be feeding Monta down the stretch and letting him iso all day.

  • Cordale

Lol laughing at Dwight’s list Andre Iguodala, Monta Ellis or Josh Smith in Orlando? Are you kidding me… thats basically the same roster Orlando’s been had… I mean Miami just added Shane Battier, Knick are about to get Tyson Chandler, Boston is Boston & Chicago is young and very talented plus won 60 gms last year. Dwight will not will a ring he’s waisting his time he should leave

  • Lakers_Dreamteam

Dwight Howard & Chris Paul will be Playing for the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec 25th against the Chicago Bulls!!

  • DukeFromDeep

Ahaha, Sorry. I’m still laughing at Eddie Curry to the EAT, I mean the Heat…

  • blackjack

Orlando magic needs some rough necks to take the ball to the rim, and cancil some of these 3 point shooters, and no more has beens like vince carter, gilbert arenas or anyone else. shouldve never gottin rid of gortat. and they dont need cp3 he might be better than nelson, but thats not what orlando magic needs. NEED BIG STRONG POWER FORWARDS TO TEAR THINGS UP. You feel me, anyone who has watched Orlando like i have would agree.

  • Magic fan

I want Monta Ellis, he would work out, because Iggy and J-Smoove is hard to get, while Monta is easier to trade for, and he’s still a beast! Anyone else agree?
