Dwight Howard Willing to Stay if Orlando Magic Make Changes?

Dwight Howard demanded a trade from the Magic, publicized his beef with GM Otis Smith, and now he’s talking about wanting to still play for the team. But there’s a catch: Orlando needs to make changes, whatever that means. From ESPN: “On Monday at the team’s media day, Howard softened his stance and hinted that he would consider staying with the franchise if there were changes made. ‘If it is meant for me to stay here, I’ll stay,’ Howard said. ‘I love this city. There is no place I’d rather be but Orlando. I just want to make sure we have the right things here so we can win a championship. I’m all about change. If you’re willing to change and you’re willing to do what it takes to win then, you know, you got me.’ Alex Martins, who took over as team CEO last week when Bob Vander Weide surprisingly stepped down, met with Howard when he arrived at the Amway Center on Monday. Smith was not a part of the meeting. Martins said that despite Howard twice telling the team he wanted to be traded and asking for permission to speak with the New Jersey Nets, Dallas Mavericks or Los Angeles Lakers, that the team still believes it can convince him to stay and extend his contract. ‘I’m an optimist,’ Martins said. ‘I am confident that we can work with Dwight and convince him to stay here long-term.’”

the Magic can’t surround him with talent, he’s just saying that because he knows there’s no way they can do it, he’s just being nice. Hey Dwight, no need to be nice, business are business. Be smart and leave now.

I’d be willing to stay in my 1 bed flat for 5 years if you could turn it into a 4 bed house!

  • LA Huey

I want JJ Reddick for his good looks but not for basketball reasons.

Agree with robb. I think he doesn’t want to be resented by the fans. Trying to create the opposite reaction to the Lebron-fiasco.

I think the fiasco is already underway. He’s saying changes need to be made but the team wont make them unless he threatens to leave. Yeah this really sounds like a healthy organization.

It would be nice to see him stay in Orlando just to see a player stay with their original team but I think we all agree this is going to end up like the Melo and CP3 fiascos.

Now he’s saying he wants Billups. Adding Chauncey won’t change a thing, but even if it did Orlando won’t get him.

Dwight is just a really big bargaining chip for Orlando right now. Who’s this guy trying to fake? Go to the damn Lakers already don’t worry we won’t make Shaq comparisons, we’ll make them only if you turn out to be as good…

Why doesn’t Chris Paul come to Orlando? They have awesome weather, a decent team, and don’t they skimp on taxes or something?

Howard really just made a fool of himself with this interview. He basically said “there’s no place I’d rather be than Orlando, but I want to be traded.”
