Hornets Trade Quincy Pondexter For Greivis Vasquez

The move is big the Hornets, as GM Dell Demps has been on the hunt for a backup PG. From the New Orleans Times-Picayune: “Desiring to get a proven backup point guard, the New Orleans Hornets traded small forward Quincy Pondexter to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday in exchange for guard Greivis Vasquez, sources confirmed. The Hornets General Manager Dell Demps had been in discussions with the Grizzlies for the past few days. Vasquez, 6 feet 6, 211 pounds, is a second-year player who averaged 4.5 points and 4.5 assists last season as a rookie with the Grizzlies. Vasquez, who played at Maryland, was the Grizzlies’ first-round pick in the 2010 draft and can play both point guard and shooting guard.”

They’re definitely doing this to get playing time for Selby. On another note, Greivis will hurt Jarret Jack’s sleeper value ..lol

Vasquez is a bad boy, not sure why they’d give him up for Q-Pon (although, to be fair, the latter never really got a shot in NO).

Grizzlies found the main backup PG in Pargo which made Vasquez, although an offensive talent but a liability on defense, expendable. It has always been on coach Hollin’s mind to get an athletic defense prowress PG in Pargo. Selby has a lot of work ahead of him so will be the 3rd PG behind Conley and Pargo, he’s a low risk and high reward project. As much a fun, explosive player to watch, don’t expect too much pt from Selby this year..

Letting go of a player like Vasquez who totally have the potential and mentality to be an excellent backup pg sounds a little moronic and unnecessary. Vasquez is even more steady than Conley and has an uncanny chemistry with Arthur, sorry that the latter may just be out for the entire season. Hope Pargo fits in well, but he is less an organizer than an attacker, and might not be a good combination with Mayo in the second unit.

Well, we do have to consider the Grizz interesting PG history… Giving Mike all that money?? SMH.
