Jason Kapono to Ink 1-Year Deal With Lakers

The Lakers will likely sign Jason Kapono tomorrow, with the expectation that he’ll improve the squad’s three-point shooting. From the Daily News: “Jason Kapono, a 3-point specialist, is expected to sign a one-season contract for the veteran’s minimum salary Friday, the first day free agents can sign contracts after the approval of the new collective bargaining agreement. The Lakers have lacked a consistent 3-point threat since they traded guard Sasha Vujacic to the New Jersey Nets for forward Joe Smith last December. Kapono, a former standout at UCLA and Artesia High of Lakewood, spent last season with Philadelphia.”

This guy has done almost nothing since that one season he shot the lights out for the Heat and won the 3pt contest.

    1) The Lakers had Joe Smith last season?
    2) So now they have a clog at SF with Metta World Peace, Matt Barnes and now Jason Kapono?

The only thing Kapono will clog is one of the last 2 seats on the Lakers bench.

dont get this..thought la wanted to get more athletic and faster..i can run fast than kapono…and no i aint kidding. i seriously doubt he can run under a 5min mile..i can..real talk!

Nice pick up. If it was anything other than the vet minimum i’d be pissed, but he is a solid pick up on the cheap. The Lakers have not had a 3 point shooter in a long time. I think he will have a good season due to the open looks he’ll get with whomever the Lakers have. Either way they will have someone in the game that needs to be doubled and that’s where Kapono makes his money. Good sign for sure.

I like it… He can shoot the three, and that’s what the lakers were missing. But the Machine was not a consistent shooter.. now we need a pg who can create and play some defense. I’m all about being loyal but Fisher has to go. I think Blake offers more than he does, and he is a decent defender.

not really a big deal…..dude hasn’t seen an NBA basketball floor in ages it seems, I don’t think I can recall watching him play in the last 2-3 years…more significant in my opinion is their draftee Andrew Goudelocke…now that kid can absolutely shoot the lights out, and he’s hungry. If he makes through training camp I’d look for him to be a significant pice for the Lake Show next year

I would say this might be a better solution than Sasha Vujajic.

  • burnt_chicken

he can come in cold and nail threes when teams are packing in the lane or playing zone. I think it’s a small, but very nice, signing for the Lakers. Vet minimum. Easy.

Sharp-shooter is always something nice to have sitting on the end of the bench. I think they shoulda brought back Adam Morrison since he’s stayed active over seas.

  • Big Balls Smalls.

forget paul nd howard….this move screams championship

  • Bob

They should Kapono because the lakers need a spot up shooter and the lakers lack in that area
