Jazz Trade Mehmet Okur to Nets for Future Second-Round Pick

The New Jersey Nets acted quickly in light of the terrible Brook Lopez news this afternoon, swinging a deal for Mehmet Okur. Per the Salt Lake Tribune: “Utah Jazz trade Mehmet Okur for future second-round pick and trade exception. Mehmet Okur completely caught off guard by trade. Okur came into camp 100 percent and wowed Jazz with his comeback. Clearly contributed toward his trade. Old era Jazz — D-Will, Boozer, Okur — completely gone. Utah continues to rebuild while going young; clear sign Jazz believe in Kanter.”

I think everyone saw this coming when they drafted Kanter, it was either him or Big Al.

It a good look for nj. They get a big who can stretch the floor and knock down the three and he’s a great throw-in with brook lopez to try and get D. Howard.

    Nice move by NJ.

They had Jefferson, Okur, Fesenko and Kanter at the 5. But still, Okur is an ex-all star and he’s better than a 2nd round pick.

for 10$ mill a year or what ever cat makes jazz are smart letting him go

Love Mehmet Okur. He and Deron Williams are going to rack up the points.

I mean, goddamn, if there are centers available, not having to place the whole season on Jermaine O’Neal’s paper-maché knees would be nice.

Guys, a lot of teams CAN’T trade their second round pick for Okur… because they are over the salary cap. That includes the Celtics.

nice, subtle response from NJ following the Lopez injury. they could either use okur to lure howard or keep him as a key addition to their bench. okur is a 7-footer who can stretch the defense but he`s better served as a backup pforward or center since he`s never been able to stay healthy as a starter. plus okur made his best contribution as a backup pf for the detroit pistons when they won the title. now NJ needs to pickup a starting guard to play with williams. I think deron is about 6-3 which means that NJ doesn`t necessarily need a traditional-sized shooting guard. they just need to sign someone who can take the scoring load off of williams. there are only a few free agent guards who fits this mode but one player in particular would play perfectly along side deron. I hope NJ goes after him hard.

They still suck just as bad.

why i love the nba. teams could get talent for nothing with the TPE’s. Odom and Memo the past 2 weeks for instance. But when 3 GM’s agree on a trade, the NBA vetoes it. (yes, i realize the NBA owns the hornets)

Should say ‘Jazz Trade Mehmet Okur to Nets for Huge Trade Exception (oh and a second round pick too)’. Nice move by the Jazz.

Hopefully Memo can bounce back this year, I’ve always liked his game.

  • GipTheClip

Theres also an $8 million trade exception in the deal. so it isn’t just for a 2nd rounder.

    Utah is the Nets’ farm.
