Kwame Brown: ‘I Love Playing Against Dwight Howard’

Former No. 1 overall pick Kwame Brown inked a one-year deal worth $7 million with Golden State for ’11-12, and while his role is yet to be determined, the ten-year NBA veteran (that’s incredible to type) isn’t shy about playing up his strengths, which he deems to be his physicality and defensive presence. Brown told the San Francisco Chronicle on Wednesday, among other things, that he’s grown since his rookie season because “My kids can Google now.” And he went on to talk about some guys he loves matching up with in today’s NBA: “I think a lot of people give credit to numbers and guys who block shots. I don’t get a lot of blocked shots, but every guy that I play against feels me every second of every game. Just as much as Dwight gives, I give back. I love playing against him. He’s physical. I love playing against Shaq and Andrew [Bynum]. That’s just what I like to do: mix it up.”

    SO,
Kwame likes to bang with strong guys huh? :)

  • BasketballJunkie

LOL! you mean get bang on by strong guys!

  • http://skjflf.com Jukai

I mean, the dude can rebound, protect the post and clog the lane to a decent extent. It’s no shock that he’s still in the league, no shock at all.
Giving him seven million (and making 50-million over his career) though, is shock enough to electrocute me.

  • franchise

    wow

  • Hater #1

    PAUSE!

  • EtheKnickFan

Who’s the idiot that drafted this guy? hehehehehehe

  • #6marjons

    does he know shaq retired?

  • Will Lee

why don’t you join the WWF then?

  • Ryan D.

Talk about a guy who was overpromised, underperformed, and survived for 10 years in the league.

  • iLL will

I’d say anything if I got 7 mil for one year to be Kwame Brown.

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

Really, he’s Kendrick Perkins with higher expectations. If he wasn’t the number 1 pick people would be a lot more forgiving with him.

  • Joe

And Kwame, Dwight Howard loves to play against you……

  • clydesays

Translation: “Can you believe I’m still getting a fat NBA paycheck…?!?!?!”

The secret to not getting your shot blocked: Don’t attempt any shots.

  • bike

He’s not worth 7 million, even for one season. I know GS had to spend the money, and you can’t blame Kwame for taking it, but he is a chronic underachiever who can’t hold on to a beachball if it was tossed to him underhanded by a 7-year old.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    omphalos is 100% on point.

  • http://skjflf.com Jukai

Well, I’d agree with Omphalos if Kendrick Perkins wasn’t slightly better than Kwame Brown in every conceivable way.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

So he likes getting yammed on?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

And Kendrick Perkins makes more money.

  • ALEX80

    Just SEVEN????

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Dead Bodies are worth $7M for one season in the NBA.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Did someone just compare Kwame Brown to Kendrick Perkins? LMFAO!

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com yada

no one saying kwame is out there killing it BUT he is a big strong body which is why teams keep signing him and he DOES mix it up. its cool to joke because he was a 1st pick bust but he’s turned himself into a pretty good dirty work guy

  • robb

If his kids can google it must be hard for them to see how many people call Kwame a scrub, but he’s not a bad defensive player.

  • Yesse

Since everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and saying something good about Kwame, i guess it’s my turn.

Kwame is one of the biggest busts in Nba history, but why?

He was drafted the number 1 overrall pick. What comes to his playing, he is a solid player, but not an an all star.

  • Heals

It’s funny how people (myself included) size these guys up from their living room only to be corrected by the people they actually play against. I’ve heard this stated in so many ways from a few sources the past couple days, so as long as his peers view him a certain way and he’s getting paid well there’s not much to rag on him about. A big advantage for Perk was being able to grow into the position, while Kwame was thrust into a starting spot and also KG perfectly complimented Perks’ flaws, whereas Kwame hasn’t had that someone…

  • bike

‘among other things, that he’s grown since his rookie season because “My kids can Google now.”’
    But he can’t. Yet.

  • http://averysmith.org Avery Smith

Kwame Brown’s paycheck > Rip Hamilton’s paycheck. SMH.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

I don’t care if Kwame Brown were an undrafted free agent, I still don’t see how you can compare him to Kendrick Perkins, and do it with a straight face.

  • http://skjflf.com Jukai

Heals: What have his peers said? The only thing I remember reading was Kwame talking sh*t to Brook Lopez then Lopez dunking on him and saying “STOP TALKING YOU’RE THE BIGGEST BUST OF ALL TIME!”

  • Marcel

Get off his back atleast he’s in the NBA unlike y’all lil naysayers tryna bag on him

  • http://www.t-mac.com/tmac/index unf*ckwitable

cosign Omphalo..to an extent. He aint as good as Perkins.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    Stop hating on Kwame Brown!

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

he’s country boy strong….lets not take that away from him….probably shoulda played football

  • http://www.facebook.com/pages/Pawtucket-YMCA-Youth-Basketball-League/278842845500531 Gametimeweezy

Of course you do it’s the only way ur going to get on Sportcenter… lol

  • SwissArmyKnife5

Kendrick Perkins 6ppg 8rpg, Kwame Brown 8ppg 7rpg last season….yeah guys they are pretty much the same player even there career stats are similar.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujL1Ur9dXqE&feature=related nbk

Kendrick Perkins is the most overrated player since Eric Dampier.

  • MikeC.

You know the days of the real Center are long-gone when there is nobody in the entire league that has the top dunkers saying “Ooooh I can’t wait to bang one on him!” Where are the Manute Bols? The Shawn Bradleys? The Gheorge Muresans? Those guys weren’t top-flight big men, but they were the scrubs when Ewing, Mourning, Shaq, Admiral, Dream, etc were in their primes. If Shawn Bradley was still around, he’d get $10mil/year based on what Kwame just signed. Other than Dwight, there aren’t any true Centers left. Bynum doesn’t count until he can go a full season, including playoffs, without a knee injury. I saw D-Rob on NBATV the other day. He’s still in shape. He could come back and average 8-8 today.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

SMH, stat boys just don’t understand, you actually have to watch the game too. rofl

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@Swiss completely misleading stats, Perk played on a new squad and missed just about all of that regular season….seriously the game isn’t played on paper. Comparing what Kendrick Perkins does for a team….and the what Kwame Brown does for a team….thats almost disrespectful

  • http://slamonline Brion

Not hating on Kwame, its just have you ever seen his hands? there smaller than my little sisters.

  • http://Barondavisisfat.youaretoo nbk

The difference between Kwame and Kendrick is obvious. Perkins is clearly better. But he’s not 3 million a season for 5 seasons better. They are both good defenders (Perkins being Very Good) and decent on the glass. Neither are an offensive option away from the basket. Neither is really worth what they get paid. But it’s not disrespectful to compare them, Perkins isn’t that much better. Infact, he was headed for a reputation like Brendan Haywood until KG came to Boston. Which is pretty much was Kwame is, except some dummy drafted him #1 overall and screwed up every chance he ever had of being viewed as a success.

  • Chukaz

Kwame loves to play against Dwight cuz he makes him foul out quick. The only thing better than making 7 million a year to play basketball is to get payed 7 million a year to watch a basketball game courtside…

  • Dr. DL

Someone should tell Kwame that the feeling is mutual. I’m sure all those guys love playing against him, too. Hell, Shaq would probably come out of retirement if he was somehow promised he would be matched up against Kwame Brown every game.
