LaMarcus Aldridge: Blazers Can Finish as Top Western Conference Team

Despite the team’s injuries and seemingly never-ending setbacks, LaMarcus Aldridge envisions a great season in Portland. From SRI (via ESPN Radio): “Where do you see the Portland Trail Blazers when this season is over in the Western Conference? ‘I definitely see us finishing in the top two [of the Western Conference]. I feel like if we can keep growing as a team, keep finding chemistry offensively as we do have new pieces. I think if we keep growing and we keep working hard, we have a chance to finish first. We feel like we can play with any team. We have the pieces and players to compete with anyone this year. We definitely are not trying to short hand ourselves and say we can’t finish first. I think a lot of the critics say we are definitely not going to finish first. We feel like if we go out together and play hard…we feel like we can then we have a chance to.’”

Dude needs to say something other than “we feel like”

This guys got confidence, but it’s very unlikely they’ll beat out the thunder (sonics), clippers, and grizzlies

I think a lot of people will be surprised this year by the blazers they have some tough games coming up that will tell us a a lot including the clippers.

Blazers have a better bench than all of the above mentioned teams, and IMO more overall talent once you look past the 4 or 5 big names on those teams. Very good balance of youth and experience. The west isn’t what it used to be…

Top 1 or 2 seems a little high, but the Blazers have a couple factors that aren’t getting taken into consideration by most people: 1, a very good coach that has been in Coach of the Year talks for the last 2 years. and 2, they have a DEEP bench full of players that could easily step up in the rotation if they need to.

On back-to-backs, and back-to-back-to-backs, that’s going to come in really big. Nolan Smith, Elliott Williams, Craig Smith, and Kurt Thomas could all turn out to be impact players by the end of the year, given the right opportunity. And if the Blazers can play well in the 4th quarter with our oversized, athletic unit, defense playing unit, we have a shot to finish in the top 4 in the West.

Best SF combo in the west in Wallace and Batum. (Not saying either is better than Durant, but both capable of giving you 25 pts.)

Some of the local announcers have them finishing at #4 in the west. Personally, I think there is so much to be optimistic about: this is the team I’ve been wanting to see– athletic, on the break, deep. So I hope for even higher than #4. My main concern is age at the center position and the compressed schedule. At the very least I think they will be a blast to watch. @Bryan: good comments.

It’s not the craziest thing he could’ve said about the team. They are going to be very tough defensively i think and if lamarcus is an all star this year that would be huge for the blazers.

the blazers are going to shock a lot of teams this year. the team is pretty deep for once.

  • Mariano

I don’t see the Clippers in the top 4

  • Jerome

They need a new heart … LA is no BRoy.

  • S-Bizzle

Portland will be among the top 4 out west when the season concludes. Book it… the addition of Ray Felton plus a full season of Crash Wallace will prove to be the difference.

Its good to feel you can be top dawg in the L. Realistic not so much. Wallace, Crawford, Batum, all streaky. No Oden. No more Roy. Brand new players (its gonna take chemistry). Gotta find an identity and Aldridge can get it done with 20 and 10 “err night” but who else after that? Bring back sheed and wells?

  • bull22

7th seed is what i predicted, and this would be a great success.

It’s a 66 game season, guys. This is VERY possible. 4 teams in the West playoff picture is very, very susceptible to injury. If the Blazers manage to stay healthy…HAHA.

The west is weak nowadays. OKC is the only team that can comfortably be called a favorite.
