Magic Take Dwight Howard Off the Market

After  morning when it seemed like Dwight Howard might finally find a new home, possibly with the Nets, Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Orlando is taking Howard off the market. Via Twitter:

    otis smith should be fired!!!!

If I were these teams, I’d hold off on seeking a trade and just make cap room for next season. Neither CP3 or Howard are going to sign with their current teams, so why even bother giving up too much to get them. Just wait it out. CP will end up in LA (Lakers) and Howard in Dallas. And NOLA and Orlando will end up with nothing.

WTF dwight should go to the nets. An amazing point guard and an amazing center.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

Well, there’s still a few months until the trade deadline, things could change when March comes around…

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Why aren’t the Clippers on Dwight’s list of potential destinations?

  • bull22

otis smith should be fiiiiired…(in a gay lisp)

Unless Otis works some (ahem) magic and brings in another all-star quality player (Monta? Iggy? Gay? JSmoove?) or the Magic miraculously make the Finals, Dwight is leaving for Brooklyn.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

There are no magic wands to just “make cap room,” Cheryl. That’s why teams are trying to trade for Dwight Howard and Chris Paul.

He will play out the season with the Magic, and then head off to the Lakers in the summer as a free agent.

  • Ldub20

niQ makes a perfect point. Why trade half your squad? The things that are very much so attracting CP3 or D12 (aside from the cities themselves) are the people they would be able to play with. You trade all the assets to obtain them and in a year or 2 its the same story all over again with a different jersey. I dont see any way for the Magic to bring in enough talent to keep Howard happy. Nor do I see CP3 getting out of NO where he and the team and Stern are happy. So it is best to wait til seasons end.

With all the talk of NBA Players being like slaves, ‘taken off the market’ is a REALLY appropriate turn of phrase, isn’t it….

  • Nella

    Key words: “for now”.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    With what cap space GP23?

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

    c.a., ha!

  • vctmac

i do think a bynum/fisher or bynum/gasol deal for dwight and sum draft picks might be around the corner… as nella said; key words, “for now”.
tho i dnt want dwight to go to LA.

  • robb

If Orlando ends up with nothing next year I’ll be very happy but if NO ends up with nothing I’ll feel bad for them because they were willing to negotiate until Sperm vetoed the trade with Lakers and demanded crazy stuff from Clippers.

DUH! — Did anyone see what Denver got for Melo at the trade deadline???? Cuz as a lot of people have been saying for weeks, Orlando wants something similar. He’s not getting traded till March.

  • Tpark407

    I just wanna play d12 & d will together on 2k12

  • http://www.point3basketball.com/ POINT 3 Basketball

We will see how long this lasts. No matter what Orlando says, if they can’t sign him they are going to find a trade offer that is better than losing him to free agency…

  • Ldub20

I say to hell with david stern
cp3 to miami for bosh and some other scrubs. then miami sign DH….

    how about that IAMORANGE4EVER??? LOL

  • http://www.slamonline.com Double J

Wow… if this is true LA is gonna be hurting this shortened season, here’s to kobe averaging 33ppg and taking down another scoring title hahaha

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

By the way, Dwight Howard JUST requested to be traded again. lol. Reports say he’s not a happy camper. hahhaha

  • Ldub20

Kobe wont outscore KD this year. Probably will be 5th or 6th in scoring behind rose, wade, bron, melo and kd. not specifically in that order.

  • doyouwantmore

I wish the Clippers got Paul and Howard. Them plus Blake Griffin would be pretty fun to watch.

  • chingy

Really? “bynum/fisher” for D12? @niQ, my thoughts exactly.

  • Cool Dude

    Lakers so fked. Sigh

Man it’s crazy being a pro athlete in the internet age. All your business and dealings of if your coming or if your going, personal unhappiness put out there for everyone to see. Must be frustrating. Prob takes all the fun out of basketball.. Keep ya head up Dwight!

  • http://www.nba.com VanCityBBall

d12 to clippers now!!! wooooooo! lol

  • Sam J

So sick of contracted players dictating where they go, either shut your dumbhole til you’re a free agent, or be willign to be sent anywhere. And don’t piss on our backs and tell us its raining Dwight, you have no intention of staying in Orlando at all, everyone knows it.

  • http://www.aol.com wagers

He’ll end up somewhere where he is happy. He’s a terrific ball player and is young. I wish the best for this guy, Orlando just isn’t clicking with him.

  • RunNGun

It looks like D12 won’t be leaving ORLANDO until near the trade deadline.

  • Ballislove

Clippers dont need Dwight, they have Blake Griffin

  • Tweaks

Whenever i read comments about the Lakers, i seem to find some of you people deliriously hateful.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

Sam J so it’s better to do it the Lebron way and leave your team with nothing that say the Melo way where the team stays pretty damn good?

  • Justin

The Lebron way? You mean by free agency? It’s not the player’s fault if they leave a team via free agency and it leaves that team with nothing. Melo didn’t leave either. He forced a trade. I agree with Sam though. All of these guys under contract trying to force teams to trade them to a place they’d rather be. I really do wish we could go back to the 80′s and 90′s mentalities where players…you know…tried to win championships with the teams they had instead of trying to team up with other superstars to make it easier on themselves.

  • bull22

good! i really had alot of respect for dwight until he started his lebron
antics.. rather then whine and cry like a baby that he wants to win which he is doing, if he wants to take team to next level then learn to show free-throws…
