Metta World Peace Happy to Come Off the Bench for the Lakers

Lakers head coach Mike Brown is moving Metta World Peace (yes, we all have to call him that now) to the bench, and Mr. Peace says he’s cool with the shift. Per Daily News: “It was hardly a surprise, given that Metta World Peace didn’t play with the starters in the scrimmages reporters were allowed to view, but Lakers coach Mike Brown made it official today. World Peace will move to the second unit when the season begins on Christmas Day. Matt Barnes probably will start at small forward, although Brown didn’t rule out using Luke Walton or a third option he didn’t name after today’s workout. World Peace had this to say, ‘It’s going to be good. I get a chance to come in and have more responsibility, which is good. It’s going to make the other team off balance. Kobe, Pau and Bynum are going to be out and you’re still going to have to double-team me. You can’t leave me alone on the block by myself.’”

Yes, they can leave you alone on the block RON. Your legs have less lift than Glenn Robinson’s.

It is clear that Artest is done. I wonder how he feels knowing that he sold his one championship ring for it seems that the lakers chances to win this year are tougher than last year.

  • Jono

    Love this guy

  • T-Money

    LUKE WALTON?!

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Say what you want about Metta World Peace, but without his clutch game 7 performance in the 2010 Finals against the Celtics, the Lakers are NOT winning the championship.

  • Bt

Signs you hired the wong coach #1 Your coach publicly considers using Luke Walton in a starting role as opposed to his regular bench warming role.

It’s gonna be a long year lakers fans

  • Zabba

Yeah, you better be happy. Or you’ll be shipped off so fast you won’t have time to call Lamar and asked “WTF just happened?”

    what a phycotic legend

I don’t mind it. Peace is the new Odom. They actually have a similar skill sets. We’ll see if he has anything left in the tank to be a 6th man like Odom was. If Barnes is healthy and back to where he was a couple year ago I have no problem with that swap. Oh, one thing though. Never play Luke Walton ever.

  • Zack

LOL at Luke Walton being anything other than an Ass Coach for the Memphis Tigers.

  • bike

MWP also added that if anyone dumps a beer on him, he will be more than happy to come off the bench.

@ LakeShow how can you possibly say something so stupid? I’m a true Laker fan how can you can even compare Ron Artest to Lamar Odom? Similar skill set, are you stupid? Did you forget how many open shots this man missed and how many times he turned the ball over this past season? Ron Artest has one of the most broke shots in the league today. I came to watch their pre game warm-ups this man was missing lay ups. He’s no where close to the player he was 10 years ago. I would rather have Odom any day over Artest. Don’t ever compare him to an all-star caliber player again.

the Lakers NEED to get rid of Luke Walton, i just can’t understand how a defensive minded coach abides the likes of Walton and Fisher in any essential rotation outside of practice scrimmages.

B.C. I would never argue with a “true” Laker fan. Such an attempt would be futile.

LA’s bench has to be one of the worst in the L.

  • tomtom

ronron isn’t what he used to be but luke FU K Cing walton gimme a break.

  • Jay

clearly a move due to the Lakers awful bench. Better off having Pau come off the bench if you’re doing this for offense. Artest is not going to give you instant offense like his Indy days.

  • BasketballJunkie

Luke Walton can hoop! Dont get it twisted. He’s just been bury in the Lakers cause of Ariza, Odom, Artest, ect…..

  • DieselMechanic

Yea why is Artest not starting again?

  • http://nba.com GP23

Artest plays great D.. and that’s it, lol!!

  • JD

never get used to him being called that

  • Harlem_World

Man, I’m still stunned at how much the Lakers have fallen off since last year. Lose Odom for nothing, Phil gone and you still have Fisher as the starting pg? Feels like the purp and gold are going back to Kobe Vs World days – but with one major difference, Kobe can’t be that guy anymore. Clippers could actually be the team to beat in LA this year. Damn…

  • MaxIsNative

DFish + Kobe + Luke + Pau + Gasol > The rest of the league. (This equation will also work if you switch Adam Morrision in for Luke)

  • http://slamonline.com Tae

    I dont get this move….

  • http://nba.com GP23

    Adam Morrison > Luke Walton

  • http://nbasobrietystrike.blogspot.com/ CoolWhip

how does ‘Ron Artest’ feel about it?
You just get the feeling that the Lakers are going to pull off another huge coup of a trade. It’s what they do best

MaxisNative: you should change your name to MaxisNaive.

I literally laughed out loud when I read on bspn that Brown said Walton was competing for a starting role.

  • http://slamonline Brion

Is Morrison still around? not that it matters.

  • B.C.

@ LakeShow, you would never argue with me because you clearly are not educated.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

lol I think Ron was joking about the double team stuff…dude is hilarious

  • Jose

Who’s this “Ron Artest” guy you are all referring to? Haha

  • Jerome

It’s funny how most people that hate the Heat woulda been o.k. with Paul CP3 and D12 going to the Lakers.

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

    Who’s doubling Artest?

  • http://dodgers.com Joey E.

Barnes > Artest at everything. Ron is too big and fat and slow to play effective D anymore. Barnes isnt a slouch defensively, and can at least keep his with his man. he can also hit 3′s. Dont get me wrong though, Lakers are probably going to finish off games with Artest. they will need him against KD, Melo, Bron, etc. he may be slower, but he’s still crafty and bugs these guys. I like the move because he needs to post up more and cant with Drew and Pau

  • Justin G.

I’m still not sure what to think about the whole Odom and Artest (I refuse to call him that other ridiculous name) have similar skill sets comment

  • robb

I’m not sure if ron having more responsibilities is a good idea.

  • Ismael

Ron Artest is an attention whore.
