NBA Agrees to Trade Chris Paul to Clippers

First it was the Lakers, then it wasn’t. Then it was the Clippers, before it wasn’t again. Now, according to a Yahoo! Sports report, the NBA has approved a Chris Paul trade, after all. CP3 lands in Los Angeles with…the Clippers.

The details, from Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc J. Spears:

The NBA has reached an agreement to trade New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Hornets will receive guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman, forward Al-Farouq Aminu and theMinnesota Timberwolves’ unprotected first-round pick.

Assuming all the paperwork goes through—not an easy assumption—Chris Paul will be throwing alley-oops to Blake Griffin this season, although getting him cost a hefty price tag. Will it work out for LAC?

Yeah. The loss of Odom is an absolute killer. Not only on the court but everyone in the Laker’s locker room has cited him as a leader and great influence off the court.
The only positive it may have is that it might inject some life/wake up the roster finally.
Also, it’s got Kobe p-off, which could be deadly.

Dont underestimate the loss of Shannon Brown either

Do ya’ll watch the same NBA teams and players I do, WTF is going on! It’s the CLIPPERS man! Snap out of it! CP3 and Blake can hold their own shi* down on any given team in the league, but this is a TEAM sport man! Did did any of yall see what happened to MIAMI last season, these indivduals players coming together don’t mean shi*! It’s the entire TEAM you need to win a championship and at least be in contention. I don’t even see that coming from this Clipper team being tossed together Come on ya’ll!

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR6ULRp3Uqk Overtime

@Ali, nobodys claiming theyre gunna be in the running for the championship?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Did you notice Miami made the finals in their first try? lol, using them as an example that it’s not about individuals is retarded.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I forgot the Nuggets. They should bump the Suns. My bad. Even with all those players missing, they will still be good because ANDRE MILLER is their point guard.

Allenp; no, I didn’t really catch any Turkish highlights. Job has been killing me these last couple of months, have hardly even checked out SLAM (luckily there is now light at the end of the tunnel, coinciding with the start of the NBA season – good times). Sounds good with his jumper, you know that I am in your corner regarding the best PG when Deron is firing on all cylinders. But until I see that happening on the regular, the crown is with Paul based on his play versus the Fakers. Btw I am completely sure that Dwight is Brooklyn bound, so I think we can look forward to some great ‘best tandem’ discussions between Paul/Blake and Deron/Dwight the next couple of years.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

The Clippers have Caron Butler and Chauncey Billups. Along with DeAndre Jordan.
    Let me break it down.
The Hornets made the second round of the playoffs and took the Spurs to seven with:
Chris Paul, David West, Tyson Chandler, Peja, Jannero Pargo and some other randoms playing big minutes. Julian Wright was involved.
Chris Paul now has Blake Griffin, Caron Butler, DeAndre Jordan, Mo Williams, Chauncey Billups, Eric Bledsoe and Ryan Gomes.
That’s a talent upgrade. They will be a second round out unless things go horribly wrong this year.

Too little credit for the butler signing imo. He’s a guy who plays great d, can blend in or can easily create his own shot and get 20. I believe he’s in a league with prince and iggy and his signing is huge for the Clips.
They are one good longe range shooting SG away from being a complete team. Too bad they gave up gordon, but a mayo or even a fields will round this team out.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Ty Lawson is their PG. — And they are paper thin. They went from the deepest bench in the league to one of the shallowest. I can’t see Denver making the playoffs.

  • http://nba.com GP23

    Well, where do I start??
Ok… so, to be honest, I wish Chris Paul went to the Lakers, but there you go, it didn’t pan out that way. I still think the Clippers should go for a decent SG, and no.. Billups can’t play there regularly.
$14,000,000 under the cap, they must get somebody.
Top 5 Point Guards of all time:
    1. Magic
    2. Stockton
    3. Oscar
    4. Thomas
    5. Kidd
    Honorable mentions- Payton and Nash

  • http://nbasobrietystrike.blogspot.com/ CoolWhip

“I’m excited for Vinny Del Negro’s point guard tutelage” – Paul did not necessarily add.
It’s funny to see the Clips stockpiled with point guards who are all better than Del Negro was. Look for the Clips to make some moves. They are seriously lacking depth.
Notice how Paul is unanimously become the best PG in the NBA? As recently as last year it was him Deron neck/neck and now that Paul’s being trade he’s a “transcendent” talent.

  • http://leipzig-eagles.de/ Speedy

The only position that is weak on the Clipps roster is the coaching position.
Chris Paul will show everybody what he is capable of when given the right material.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

They’re shooting guard position is weak. Billups is passable, but he’s not an advantage or anything like that.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    Where is Randy Foye??

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    He is on the bench.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Why? You saying he is no good? I think he and Billups are equal in terms of playing the SG position. He is pretty decent player imo. He should get over 25 mins per game if he’s not injured.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

He isn’t really good enough to be the starting SG on a playoff team. So I consider him a weakness.

  • feez_22

oh ya my bad about the billups thing. then trade mo/bledsoe. they really need a SG

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I think Foye combo-ing with Billups is a passable shooting guard line up. Is Gomes pretty much exclusively a SF? Clips are going to be real solid that’s for sure.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Gomes more of a SF/PF – He came in the league as a PF but showed signs of shooting ability and is a terrible post defender. — Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets shipped out with Mo Williams though.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Got it. Here’s how desperate Lakers fans are right now… Give us Mo.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

If only y’all had a trade asset not named Pau or Andrew. — Don’t rule out Dwight, those two are a better trade package then what New Jersey would be giving up. If you think about how (un)valuable the draft picks from New Jersey will be after more than half a season of Dwight and Deron.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

First time you’ve ever made me feel more confident about the Lakers ever haha. So whats the deal with Dwight? Magic say he’s off the market, but so was Paul technically right? Lakers would need to get two post players back. It maybe would have to be a 3 team deal?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

What teams/agents portray to the media is usually a tool to create/get leverage from my experience reading rumors and then seeing what happens. I think Orlando is still talking to New Jersey, LA, & Houston about possible Dwight moves. More than likely he gets moved to LA in a 3-team trade sometime around the deadline. My biggest concern, (if I were a Lakers fan) would be Andrew Bynum getting hurt before that happens. Because there is no way Orlando trades for a hurt Andrew Bynum.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Well this is also the first time i think me and you have had a discussion about the Lakers actual team, rather than there potential or what each of us thinks they will accomplish or have accomplished.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

    lol true^^

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Good to know they are still in the hunt. I was fine with the team we had, but trading away my second favorite Laker for… What did we trade him for again lol. I know he had to leave, but unless they get Dwight, that’s a stupid deal to trade Odom and get nothing in return. Bynum better stay healthy. Unfortunately I have said that for a few years now…

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

They just gave Odom what he wanted. He came into Kupchaks office the day after the failed NOH trade and said “I want to be traded, preferably to a team like Dallas” so they gave him what they wanted. They called it a salary dump but really it only gave them a $8.9M trade exception, it didn’t get them below the luxury tax or anything like that. So basically they made the trade so that they could include Bynum & Gasol too take back Howard, Turkoglu, and Ryan Anderson (or someone similar) if they can’t find a 3rd team — Pretty awkward trade situation.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Does anyone else think the Lakers basically tearing the Lakers apart and moving every piece bar Kobe is somewhat…. whats the word… disrespectful? Gasol, Bynum Odom… they all gave everything they could to the Lakers as an organisation… playing through injury…out of position….under the heavy media scrutiny… I wish for all the success in Dallas for Odom, playing with Dirk and Jason Kidd and Vince is going to be fun for him and to think that if Bynum and Gasol get to the east coast then they both have real chances to be all stars again… to think that they get into a better offensive situation in Orlando!? : )

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I’m just not a fan of the process of having to move players when it has negative connotations. But i understand the need for it; some players want out – some want to get closer to home, others want the money/fame/a starting spot, guys get ‘burnt’ by management and “the business side of things” and want to be moved to a new team… there are a lot of layers involved no doubt. In any event…let’s go Suns! Also: The off season moves here have COMPLETELY given a chance for the Heat to go into hiding and start the season with a better impression.

If the Lakers don’t do something smart soon, I think they are screwed.

  • http://www.facebook.com/pages/Pawtucket-YMCA-Youth-Basketball-League/278842845500531 Gametimeweezy

Honorably mention Rod Strickland and God Shammgod …just cuz

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I would co-sign nbk if that didn’t mean co-signing my death. jp, But I am feeling quite apprehensive these days

  • http://Barondavisisfat.youaretoo nbk

    Lol

  • http://Barondavisisfat.youaretoo nbk

They could Sign Gilbert Arenas….but then your PG defense amazingly enough would take a step back.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

So true. So true. lol. I hope they just grab whoever now. Gil could be allot better. Even a Gil that puts up a semi- efficient 15 and 6 would be great. The post seems thin even with Pau and Bynum (we know history, someones going down at some point.) Wonder if Character and Ebanks are any better. They were decent rooks. They just got no playtime at all.

  • http://slamonline Brion

That Laker organization is sneaky. They always find a way to pull of a steal in the 25th hour. Howard still to L.A.

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com Enigmatic

So what’s the over/ under on how many weeks before LakeShow changes his name to LobCity?
Just kidding, dude. Don’t go all emo on me…

  • http://Barondavisisfat.youaretoo nbk

I think they do pull somethin out. I won’t like their depth when they do though. GivIng Lamar away for nothing really hurt.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Man, common Enig, that’s IAMGREENFOREVER that flips to whoever is doing better whenever things get a little bleak. Laker and Sonic for life! lol. Yeah, nothing is really going to make me forget about the Lamar trade. there goes the bench. I don’t even like Shannon Brown, but that hurts too as of right now.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

so we all agree that this clippers team will go pretty deep into the playoffs right?

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them knocked off in the first round. Also wouldn’t be surprised if they got to west finals. We don’t know enough about the team yet. Looks as if they will be quite good and have the talent for a deep playoff run though.

  • Spades

Rose just flat-out wins more. He actually hurt himself by winning too much. Those two 41-win seasons ruined his team’s chance of drafting him help. Boozer and Noah were out for long stretches of last season, and Rose still willed them to wins. How is Rose’s lineup w/o Noah and Boozer any better than NOLA’s? Paul may be a more traditional PG but Rose has surpassed him in the “best leader” category. Also, Rose doesn’t concern himself with assembling super teams or jumping ship when things go wrong.

  • Spades

Thomas>Stockton. Stockton may have the stats but he’s not the leader or winner that Thomas was. It’s not even close. You don’t beat Jordan, Magic and Bird without being legendary. People’s views of him are blurred by his deficiencies as a GM. Forget that. Thomas and Dumars SHUT DOWN Jordan and the Bulls for 3 straight years until he finally usurped their EC reign. Give props to Zeke.

This ‘Justin’ cat very intentionally put Nash and West above Zeke and Payton, and it wasn’t all basketball related. Not even joking, pay attention to his comments. This isn’t the 1st time he’s said outlandish ish to make a similar point.

  • short

Paul led a super weak Hornets team against the former defending champs and almost pulled it off. He did it w/o being fully healed, in a much stronger conference. I’d still take him over Rose.

Gotta show Bob Cousy some love too that old bandit…

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

@FakeShow If anyone knows what the word LOYALTY means, it’s me. I’m not some front runner. I’m a NEW YORKER and a KNICKS FAN. The truth is, most of those fans who “flip to whoever is doing better whenever things get a little bleak” are in fact your fellow Laker “fans” you’ve been seeing during the good times.

  • shutup

@allenp you left out stockton, he gotta be top 3 if not fighting for #1. i put magic and thomas ahead of him only because of chips. but thats the lowest spot i would put him.
