NBA May Start Testing for HGH

Part of the new labor deal in the League, is that players will likely be tested for performance-enhancing HGH going forward. From the NY Times: “The N.B.A.’s new collective bargaining agreement opens the door to blood testing for human growth hormone — provided that the league and the players union can agree on the reliability of the test. Major League Baseball became the first major professional sports league in North America to approve testing for H.G.H. when its owners and players signed off on a new labor deal last month. The N.B.A. could become the second, but hurdles remain. Mike Bass, a spokesman for the N.B.A., said Wednesday that the union and the league have agreed to H.G.H. testing ‘subject to the test being validated by a neutral committee of experts.’ A draft of the new collective bargaining agreement that the players union sent to its members for ratification is a little more cautious in its wording, referring to the ‘possibility’ of a test being introduced. The union said the test would be implemented if the experts ‘determine that the tests would be scientifically reliable.’”

Only fat and lazy people that have never lifted weights in their lives automatically label anyone that is buff and in shape a cheater and steroid/HGH user.

hgh isnt really a size thing its more about recovery. i think this is gonna screw everyone in the L. Maybe they should allow it in small doses because of the incredibly long season, thats why baseball guys do it.

That’s fine if they test for this..i think the issue is cannabis testing..they need to drop that (if they even test for it..i’m not sure..i’d assume so tho)..a lot of players smoke weed i believe..the owners should f*ck off on this demand.

HGH is pretty hard to test for. Lots of false positives and it only lasts a day or two in the system after injection. Studies that have evaluated it’s effect on athletic performance are somewhat inconclusive. Players shouldn’t be using this stuff but it may not be worth the effort to implement a sketchy test league wide.

We know the olympic team in 08 (including dwight and lebron) didn’t use steroids because no one failed their drug test. everyone else…who cares.

  • Cizzo

Pontless.. HGH don’t make your jumpshot go in…who cares how strong you are…don’t help you mabybe stamina wise…maybe…

HGH didn’t seem to help Rashard Lewis out a whole lot…

Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, Stoudemire, Blake Griffin–it would be fun to watch them testify in front of Congress on HGH use.

Hopefully the test will be able to distinguish between testosterone and epitestosterone (the synthetic version of testosterone).

incorrect. though HGH may not help a ball go in, it does increase endurance and stamina. it becomes much harder to shoot a ball as accurately as the game progresses. your energy levels go down and your shot changes. so using hgh will help keep you consistent through the coarse of the entire game. think about the last few minutes of the game when everyone is tugging on their shorts during free throws, gasping for air, and you have significant amount of more energy. all those hustle plays, rebounds, loose balls, etc. It’d definitely give you an edge.

it makes you much stronger and faster as well, which allows you to stay ahead and above the competition. Rashard Lewis’ accuracy dropped significantly the year after he got busted and imagine the same would happen to lebron, dwight, rose, and wade if they ever get caught. Jumping higher, creates more rebounds and lay ins. Running faster, creates more fast breaks and steals.

Furthermore, it’s obvious HGH won’t make a scalebrini into a michael jordan. Though it can turn a brandon jennings into a derrick rose.
