NBA Reduces Andrew Bynum’s Suspension to 4 Games

The lockout threw a lot of things out of whack, most notably the reduction of an 82-game season to a 66-game campaign. In keeping with the ratio of games missed to games played, the NBA has decided to reduce suspensions to the Lakers’ Andrew Bynum and the Pistons’ Charlie Villanueva, subtracting a game from each after incidents from last season. CBS Sports, among others, is reporting that the reduced suspensions are official: “Here you go Lakers, the NBA’s throwing you a bone after that whole Chris Paul thing. The league announced Friday that Andrew Bynum’s five-game suspension for trying to decapitate J.J. Barea in the playoffs has been reduced to four games because of the shortened season. Charlie Villanueva, who was serving a five game suspension as well, will have his reduced to four too. Villanueva was suspended five games last season for an altercation with Cleveland’s Ryan Hollins, but only has to serve three more games as he already sat out one last year. It’s a completely fair move by the league, as a five-game suspension in a 66-game season equates to a little more than six games in a regular 82-game season. Pretty important development for the Lakers though, as Bynum’s suspension could’ve potentially started the team out in a bit of a hole. Kobe’s got an injured wrist, there’s no Lamar Odom to fill in at power forward while Pau Gasol plays center, so without Bynum, the Lakers could really be hurting. While he still have to miss four, just getting one back is a nice Christmas present from the league.”

I had forgotten about this incident. I still wouldn’t allow this guy on the Lakers roster after that act of disrespect and immaturity. I guess they still might trade him for Dwight, but you expect those actions out of a child not a professional.

^aw shut up, it was immature, but in the old days, he probably wouldn’t have been suspended.

@ Wagers As much as it was stupid, immature and a poor sport, it’s equally stupid and immature to not allow Bynum back on the team because of it. I’m glad you don’t run any teams or leagues because you would respond to every bug bite with a hammer.

Wow, ‘i wouldn’t allow this guy on the roster’ sorry but that isn’t even just wrong, it’s dumb, literally would never happen for a multitude of reasons. I could not care less about that incident, i don’t approve of dirty plays (heck i even shout at the tv when someone steps underneath a shooter!) but this was 1. in the playoffs, and 2. in the heat of battle, which despite all talking like experts, we know nothing about. We may have played competitively but not in the NBA playoffs, not with pride as a pro on the line. I’m not saying it wasn’t dirty and i’m not saying he shouldn’t be suspended, all i am saying is i hope it’s the last time we talk about it cause it’s boring me to death.

In the old days, Bynum wouldn’t throw those puny tantrums because he’d be attacked by the other team.
In the old days, you laid someone out to make a statement at the beginning of the series. Not at the end of the series after you’ve lost and you’re feeling bad for your self.

  • James Aka…

people got suspened back in the day. Trying to hurt someone, with bynums history, is the mark of a genuine loser. Bynum will never be anything and he can only blame himself.
