Nene Signs 5-Year Deal, Returns to Nuggets

Perhaps the premiere free agent of this offseason Nene flew under the radar a bit while CP3 and Dwight Howard have dominated headlines. But the big Brazilian will stay with the Nuggs…

From ESPN’s Marc Stein:

“The Denver Nuggets have re-signed center Nene to a five-year deal that, according to sources close to the talks, can be worth more than $67 million.

Widely regarded as the No. 1 free agent on the 2011 market, Nene was pursued vehemently by teams such as New Jersey, Houston and Indiana.

But all of his suitors knew that his preference was to stay with the Nuggets, with whom he’s played his whole career.

The deal, sources say, will pay Nene an average of $13.5 million over the next five seasons, which is one season longer than any other team could offer.”

This seems like a pretty fair price for a big man with Nene’s scoring ability. If Denver is able to resign Arron Afflalo, and put him next two Nene, Ty Lawson and Danilo Gallinari, they could very well compete for a Playoff spot in the Western Conference. Not bad considering the fact that they were forced to trade their superstar to the Knicks less than a year ago.

  • LA Huey

    “Money talks. Pubes walk.”

  • Ldub20

I guess he just wanted to see who wanted him in the FA. Nuggets arent a contender…not in the west anyways. He should have went to the east (for less money). Bulls or Celtics would have been a good fit. oh well

  • Mike From Spain

A Spanish site says Rudy Fernández was traded from Dallas to the Nuggets for draft picks, is this correct? It might not be important news to you but Spanish fans would like to know details…

    yeah it is true mike

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Nuggets are not good enough to win a chip, and not bad enough to get a top lottery pick. They’ll make the playoffs, and get beat in the first round. George Karl will keep racking up regular season wins. Zzzzzz

  • http://www.slamonline.com megatron

brewer and fernandez were both traded to nuggets for a second round pick

  • Mike From Spain

What! both of them for a second round pick… Dallas clearly thinks these two are scrubs. Oh well…

  • http://www.slamonline.com megatron

they wanted the cap space and fernandez wanted to be traded

  • vctmac

nuggets need a scorer who can test limits and boundaries, none other than new acquisition fernandez. but lets SAY, come march, JR SMITH signs back, they should make the most out of him. for 5 mil a year hes worth the trouble or the excitement, your choice. all i know is tht when hes back, alot of teams will be looking to fill the scoring void from their bench or their startin 2. and george karl needs to run plays for jr, trust jrs ability. GEORGE KARL DOESNT KNO HOW TO USE HIS 2 GUARDS< ASK RAY ALLEN. i dnt blame JR if he leaves to CHICAGO or HEAT or DALLAS , wtv it is. DALLAS IS NOT A POSSIBILTY AS CUBAN AND JR HAVE BUMPED HEADS. on another note, Nene better start hittin his Freethrows lol.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

@vtmac: JR Smith won’t come back to Denver. He hates George Karl, and he’s not a restricted free agent, as is Arron Aflalo, who the Nuggets are going to try and re-sign.

    I actually liked Corey Brewer..

Nene is so athletic, has great footwork and used to play soccer remember when big men like that developed into… Hakeem Olajuwon! things done changed

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I thought it was pretty clear the Nuggets weren’t going to let Nene go when they lost over 60MPG to China.

  • eZ

    Boring….
Lol at fernandez and gallinari at the same team, they gonna shoot lots of threes…

  • andrew

so the mavs signed rudy as a trade bait? and trade him out with brewer for a 2nd round pick? that’s a lot of work for very little back.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

rudy and brewer both on a team with ty lawson and dan gallons??!… i don’t even know how nene thinks he’s getting the ball in the paint this season…. offensive put backs maybe…?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

They signed Rudy not thinking they would be getting Delonte West & Vince Carter this off-season.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Sports Illustrated Nene’s deal to others in the League, and it’s actually pretty fair.
