New York Knicks Claim Jeremy Lin off Waivers

After getting cut by the Golden State Warriors, Jeremy Lin is now a Knick. Per the NY Post: “The Knicks have claimed former Harvard PG Jeremy Lin off waivers, according to a league source. Lin spent his rookie year in Oakland, but was waived by the Warriors, and new coach Mark Jackson, on Dec. 9. The Rockets picked Lin up, but waived him Sunday to clear roster space in order to sign Samuel Dalembert. Lin, 23, was undrafted out of Harvard but appeared in 29 games for the Warriors as a rookie last season, averaging 2.6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest. ‘We’ve always liked him as a player,’ Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said. ‘Very quick. He defends pretty well. But he can really get in the lane and distribute the basketball. We haven’t seen him for a couple of years, but when we worked him out, we liked him.’ Lin has a non-guaranteed contract – worth about $850,000. That means when either Baron Davis (back injury) or Iman Shumpert (knee sprain) get healthy, the Knicks could decide to waive Lin and open up a roster spot if they feel the yen to sign forward Kenyon Martin. The former Net is eligible to sign an NBA contract in March as the terms of his Chinese Basketball Association buyout. D’Antoni said he believes Lin will meet up with the Knicks for Wednesday morning’s shootaround. Asked when he thinks he’d be ready to use Lin, D’Antoni replied, ‘A little of it will depend upon injuries. He’s right now our third point guard, so if someone wakes up with a cold, he’s playing a lot. If not, then we’ll see.’”

    Lin is gonna fill seats???

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

The Warriors waived Lin earlier in order to sign DeAndre Jordan to an offer sheet, which the Clips matched, and they gave DeAndre Jordan that offer sheet because they lost out on Tyson Chandler to the Knicks. In fact “sources” say the Warriors were interested in bringing Lin back if he cleared Waivers. New Warriors owner Joe Lacob remains one of Lin’s biggest fans and didn’t want to release him earlier this month, but Golden State had no other choice thanks to the offer sheet it ultimately extended to then-restricted free agent DeAndre Jordan.

‘ if they feel the yen to sign forward Kenyon Martin.’

    Freudian slip?

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Kenyon Martin will be a Knick. It’s just a matter of time.

@ripslam yeah i don’t think the knicks are having any trouble filling seats

This guy can play. He always makes the most of his minutes… When given minutes. He went like 3-for-3 with 2 assists for Houston in 5 minutes during pre-season. If that’s not efficient, I don’t know what is.

Is Kenyon going to be happy coming off the bench?

Why would Kenyon Martin want to sign with the Knicks? lol, he is probably going to end up in Miami, Boston, LA, Dallas, or Denver. Denver because he can start and already has a base there. Dallas because he can start, and has a chance at competing. Boston because he will get heavier minutes than any other major contender. LA being an option because they like Boston can assure Martin minutes and a chance at contending. If he went to Miami he’d be ring chasing, plain and simple.

Kind of dumb that you need an open roster spot to extend an offer sheet. I feel like you should have to clear the spot after you confirm the restricted FA’s team opted not to match and the player is officially part of your team. But I guess if you’re just requiring teams to waive their 15th man, it’s not a big deal

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

nbk just doesn’t know what he’s talking about. lol

According to the source, Anthony wants Martin in New York, though he is not permitted to sign a contract until March, when his Chinese team is through with the playoffs. The rugged forward was bought out earlier this week and was expected home for the holidays.

The source said Martin considers the Knicks his top choice, partly because of his friendship with Anthony. They became tight during their nearly seven seasons together in Denver. Martin could fill the role of another gritty big man off the bench with athleticism.

The Knicks have their $2.5 million room exception to offer the ex-Net, who reportedly did not look good in China. But people close to Martin said he was unhappy there and was just collecting a paycheck during the lockout. Nevertheless, by Chinese Basketball Association rules, he is not allowed to play for an NBA team until his Chinese club, Xinjiang, is done.

If Martin is down to play >15 minutes a game and not win anything, then I don’t know what I’m talking about and you’re completely right. Which is fine with me.

*honk honk* nbk has spoken. rofl what a clown.

And I forgot to mention is my reason’s for Dallas, Kenyon Martin lives there. It’s home too him. With that in mind, I’d put San Antonio on the list of likely Kevin Martin teams.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

No ish sherlock. Anyone worth their salt knows Kenyon live in Dallas. He aint playing for Cuban though. You can BOOK that.

  • MikeC.

I’d prefer NY not sign Kenyon. He has a deserved reputation of being an issue in the locker room when ht get minutes.

Nice pick up for The Knicks. Lin is young and a smart player and could be a great fit for Dantoni’s style. This definitely means they’re going after Kenyon Martin when he’s available I think. Chandler, Stat and Melo gotta hold down the fort for the next month but when Shumpert heals, BD heals, they pick up Kenyon Martin to come off the bench and the team gels, the Knicks are gonna be a force. They showed on Christmas they have heart and determination. The Knicks are back! http://tinyurl.com/ChandlerStatMelo

Jeremy Lin is interesting and I wouldn’t exactly say fill seats but he will establish a cult following for the asians in the box seats lol… hopefully he fits in I’d like to see what he brings to the table. As for Kenyon Martin… yoooo that would be MAJOR… character issues aside, he is EXACTLY what we need. He’d give us 20 solid minutes of hardnosed attitude as a backup 4. I’d love to see him subbing in for Chandler and allow Amare to slide over to the 5 …This roster is becoming the most fun team we’ve had since Sprewell and Camby!
