  • LP

This cant be true, very sad…an all-star a few years ago…

  • Lew alcindor

dammit man, I solely blame the blazers medical and management staff for letting him come back to soon TWICE. They shouldve shown tough love and told him to shut up and stay on the bench for his own well being, but instead they let him play because he forced them to.

  • thor

Man this sucks, knee injuries really is a B****.

  • Bravo

    Damn glad rapts didn’t draft u !!!!

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

Damn.. didn’t expect that. Good luck in the future Roy.

  • Trout

That was always coming but I thought at least a year or two in the future. I wish him well.

    Stay up Brandon!

  • ab40

they tried this with darius miles. now they’ll try to keep roy out of the nba the next two to three years which sucks.

  • AD

    portand is cursed

  • underdog

    Damn, no. Hell no.

  • http://www.twitter.com/nflem41 Nicolas Fleming

Not just an all-star. Kid was All-NBA and my 2nd favorite player in the L. Feel bad for him. I thought he was on a resurgence after dropping like 45 points in 10 minutes against the Mavericks.

  • marc

Bravo if the raptors drafted they would have prolly been on tv more. I thought he had at least 2 more years.

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

Wow. I am shocked by this. I mean we all know his knees are shot but to straight up retire? Damn. Assistant Coach maybe?

  • BlackStar

Dang man … That’s so freaking sad. B Roy was the truth. And the Blazers really must be cursed.

  • projectphantom

That should have been Oden, not you bradon noooo

  • mike

Very sad. Will always be a great player. Hope Brandon stays involved with the game in some way.

  • JEr dawg

He was fearless, clutch, and great all around player. It will suck not watching him light teams up anymore. As a rival fan I hated it and it’s a sign of respect. Hope he finds peace and a way to stay involved in basketball.

  • LA Huey

    co-sign ab40.

  • Partfoop

This is a real shame. He seemed like a great guy, a hard worker, a clutch player … He wasn’t my favorite player, but the league’s worse without him.

And as a Toronto guy, I don’t take any pleasure in anything like this. Respect the game, Bravo.

  • Heals

    damn…

  • Nick

One of the humblest players the league has ever seen.

  • KSupreme

I wonder if he ever massaged his knees in whirlpool that has high powered jets? Doin that got rid of my knee strain/tendinitis from playing basketball..it’s works incredibly imo..if he had been doing that thruout his whole career, his knees might be in great shape.

  • KSupreme

The natural…..toughest player to guard, sad day for basketball…..im in absolute shock :(

  • feez_22

WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT? for christ sakes… Get roy to germany NOW. Get roy some illegal knee surgery w/ stem cells or something. damn it.

  • feez_22

This retirement was clearly not only for med reasons. I think the fear of getting the amnesty also messed with roy. All that $ he signed for… man Hopefully roy can go to germany or somewhere in europe and get something done. Sad, sad day for basketball indeed. ksupreme hit it right on the head. man… im legit saddened by this. Hopefully he just sits out for a couple yrs, gets the illegal surgery done and makes a comeback like others have.

  • Louis

    Noooooooooo! F**k that!

  • Zack

Let the Suns fix him up. Way too good of a player to be gone this soon.

  • DP Will

Another sad day in the sports world because an injury was too much to overcome… Brandon Roy was another special all-star thats gonna make me wonder ‘what if’ for the rest of my life…he was a GREAT 4th quarter player and crafty finisher that you could not say his team was beat until the buzzer sounded… he’s another player on the ‘what if’ list with guys like Penny Hardaway, Tracy McGrady, Grant Hill, Magic (if he played longer), MJ (no first retirement) and many more…

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

almost feel like shedding a tear….sad day, sad day, sad past few days for basketball really. One of the absolute most fierce competitors the game has ever seen PERIOD. What he did last year in that final quarter of Game 4 vs. the Mavs shouldn’t be forgotten…A healthy Brandon Roy is just about as good as it gets at the 2-guard position. Competitor, leader, fighter…. SHOTS!!…CLUTCH!!!!!…Special young man. Wish him and his family all the best. *pounds chest one time* will miss you B Roy

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

…bro, anybody else kinda feel a general sadness beeing an NBA fan

  • Flight

One of my favorite players in the L. Sad day.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

Incredible. He pulled off that fantastic comeback win against the Mavs with shot knees. All heart, so glad he got that extension when he did, wonder how much of the money he gets to keep?
Goes to show how quickly these player’s careers can end.
Get some other medical opinions, Brandon. Bayern Munichs main surgeon, Dr. Müller Wohlfahrt is a genius in repairing joints etc. look him up.

  • Hart

damn! i thought he could still ball.

  • Go to Europe and get better B Roy maybe you can find your way back into the league one day. Humble player and class act I wish him the best.

  • ClydeSays

Sad. He showed some flashes of being a great player. Incidently, isn’t CP3 missing cartilage in one of his knees too? Just sayin…

  • http://www.kittywildeonline.com/ RunNGun

Sad news… I guess no one won that TIMBERWOLVES/BLAZERS trade aka the famous ROY/FOYE trade.

  • jadams12

good player right here. I dont see why this is a surprise to anyone. Didnt you guys know he was playing a professional sport “Bone on Bone”? -And yes, the Portland Trailblazers are cursed.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Penny 2.0. He’s a good kid and I remember SLAM ran an article on him back in 08-09 that made me fall in love with his game and demeanor. I still remember the anecdote, where the writer (sorry Slam, I forget who) asked BRoy for an interview, but Brandon had no time. Later, Roy looked at the writer and said “I’ll get you later.” Then, right after the game, Roy gave the writer all the time and attention in the world. Sorry Brandon, but thank you for the good times.

  • http://slamonline.com YKnoT

@The Black Rick Kamla I honestly feel more sad now that the season has started. CP3 trade cancelled, Roy retired. First the fat boys break-up…………

  • Bwill22

Sucks… he was one of the top 3 SG’s.
    Does he still get paid?

  • SwaGG_SeaN

Damn man sorry to hear about his retirement….I knew this was coming when I used him in 2K12 and was getting my ass bust, and no i don’t suck, I’m a big Roy fan he is my second favorite player in the league after kobe…..maybe 2k knew something that we didn’t know?

  • rav

shame this, but he’s had one good run despite such a short career when you think of it. seems like a good bloke too, hope he does well in whatever he does
