Report: Tayshaun Prince to Re-Sign in Detroit for 4-Years, $27 Million

Yikes. Joe Dumars and the Detroit Pistons will reportedly bring back Tayshaun Prince for a boatload of money. Per Yahoo! Sports: “Tayshaun Prince will sign a four year, $27 million dollar deal to stay with Detroit, league sources tell Y! Sports.”

Wow… can’t believe he wants to resign with that team….

Cosign Lakeshow…but I guess it’s cause he’s guaranteed minutes on this team at least…

  • Fan

Assuming he could of gotten that somewhere else.. Respectable

For four years?? Why wouldn’t he go to the Clippers? He is so good and so underrated to be playing for that same team… A LOT of teams could use him. (And he should have been an All-Star at least 1 year).

    too** good and too*** underrated

how can owners b-tch about paying players too much money when they’re giving 28 mil to tayshaun at this stage of his career and 14 mil per to tyson freaking chandler?!

This contract screams ‘won my ring, mailing it in’.

This team is going nowhere, with no hope of contending anytime soon. The ruptures with the coach penetrated deep, and Prince is not appreciated there (this contract aside) and needs a change of scenery.

I didn’t realize was still in the L.. Not Prince, but the Pistons.

The guy avg. 14/4 last season, so 27mill is a bargain compared to what RLewis (11/6) and GArenas (8/2/3) made last season.

This is extremely confusing. Didn’t he butt heads with his coach? I understand why Dumars wants him there, it’s called loyalty. But he could’ve signed with one of the contending teams for about the same amount. Maybe it’s the years? He’s gonna be miserable for the next 4 years. Strange.

I want to gear from Prince on why he is staying. Could it be loyalty we hardly ever see in sports today?

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

    Loyalty to what?

I really miss those Pistons teams with Billups, Rip, Tay and the 2 Wallace’s…

Would any of us begrudge him leaving this situation? Will be sad if he made this decision based on thinking he would be accused of ‘jumping ship’, can’t imagine many fans lining up to call him Judas if he had inked elsewhere.

  • T-Money

jtaylor: you’re not winning anything anytime soon – why take mins away from daye and jerebko?

  • Mariano

I don’t see why Detroit would want to re-sign him, if I was them I’d start rebuilding by letting Rip and Prince go

  • Riggs

wouldve loved him in boston :(

  • Fletch213

Wow this sounds so much more worse than it really is

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

TMoney, you make it sound like he’s taking minutes away from Baylor and West. We are talking about Austin Daye and Jonas Jerebko here.

  • http://www.slamonline.com aman from arkansas

    I totally agree with Mariano.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

That makes no sense…Maybe they plan to trade him…

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

He better not complain about being on a loser anymore.
And I don’t understand what the hell Joe Dumars is doing at this point. It’s like he got incredibly stupid all of a sudden.

  • matt

Clippers just signed Caron Butler. Looks like Jerebko and Daye will be shopped.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

At least he didn’t over pay him like he did with Rip, BG, and CV. His contract is actually pretty reasonable. He’s making only slightly more than the league average salary and I’d say he’s a slightly above average player. His contract shouldn’t be too hard to move down the road.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

That being said, WTH is Joe Dumars thinking?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I was thinking more of the Ben Gordon and Villnueva signing after giving big money to Rip and trading to get Iverson for his expiring deal.
I thought that was smart to get money available, but then they blew it all on two players that are not worth it at all. That just was stupid.
And what is he going to do with stuckey? They need to make some trades pronto.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

I think they should resign stuckey for a reasonable price, amnesty BG, trade Rip’s soon expiring contract, try to trade CV, and try to get a servicable big. Let Knight start PG and Stuckey start SG. They won’t be a super team, but at least they’ll have some balance.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Why would you think CV is better trade bait than Gordon? I would have assumed the opposite.

  • nbaNw8

    He needs to leave Detroit

  • blakos

    weird signing for both parties.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

I don’t think CV is good trade bait, but his contract isn’t as bad. BG’s contract is just awful. RIP’s Contract is bad too, but it’s expiring next year.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

    God Bless that young man

  • projectphantom

not that prince isn’t a good player. but they just took another step back. should have got rid of rip and prince to start re-building. since that billups, deal pistons haven’t been relevant.

  • LA Huey

Both parties must’ve been wasted to make this deal.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

^ that would explain… pretty much everything.

  • MaxIsNative

DUMB!!!!! Good job Prince, maybe when you’re about to retire your team might be relevant again, or maybe not.

  • shutup

he woulda looked great in silver and black :( very underrated player, maybe he doesnt wanna move his family?
