Reports: Nets Offering Nene 4 Years, $60-$65 Million

The New Jersey Nets are poised to make a large contract offer to Nene, in an effort to pry the big man away from Denver. Reports Yahoo! Sports: “The New Jersey Nets are preparing to offer a four-year, $60 million-$65 million contract to free-agent center Nene, aggressively pushing to steal him away from the Denver Nuggets, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Nets general manager Billy King was expected to present the offer to Nene’s agent Dan Fegan on Friday. The Nuggets can offer Nene a fifth year on his contract and had moved into the lead over recent days to retain him. The Indiana Pacers had bid aggressively, and Houston planned to make a stronger charge with increased salary-cap space before the NBA killed its three-team deal with the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets. Nene has been engaged in negotiations with Denver and Indiana for several days, but the Nets had been waiting back to gauge the market. Once free-agent center Tyson Chandler found a deal with the New York Knicks, the Nets decided to become more aggressive in their pursuit of Nene.”

    WTF is going on here.

Nene wants that money. i expect him back in Denver. He ain’t worried about winning. Trust me.

If the Nets land Nene, this can still be viewed as a pre-emptive move to get Dwight. They’ll need some quality, big-money players to send back to Orlando. They also will be able to trade big for big. If they can’t land Dwight, Nene is still a quality pickup. I just wish NY had never traded him in the first place.

I thought… I thought the CBA was made to stop deals like this from happening. you know… stop guys who are really not worth 15-16.5 million dollars from getting that. WTF was the lockout about then? as far as im concerned… these guys are getting what they would have gotten pre-lockout. maybe even more. Nene aint worth 16 mil at all. period. tyson chandler isn’t either. both guys should be making 10-12 million at best. this is hilarious. the nba was crying about players making too much and YET chandler and nene are already overpaid. nba owners can eff off.

Nene played well next to Marcus Camby, so if he and Brook can coexist I like this move.

  • AD

nene and brook is nice too… even tho dwight is more of a bang.

Don’t they want Dwight Howard? wtf are they doing?!

  • LA Huey

    Teddy, Allenp’s right.

  • chingy

    Nene + Brook < D12?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Dwight Howard already wants to play in Brooklyn….. So they pitch a $60 Million contract to Nene?!?!?!?!
    Step your game up, Prokhorov!

LOL, well my Lakers could maybe make a deal with Orlando….ahh who am I kidding? I haven’t the slightest effin’ clue what’s REALLY going on right now in the NBA.

Y’all acting like the Nets don’t have the salary cap space to sign both these cats.
Check the figures, they do. They are going to amnesty Outlaw, and then they give Nene his money, trade for Dwight, and then give he and Dwill extensions in the summer.
That would be the plan, but Nene is not taking a pay cut to come to New Jersey. I will be shocked.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

The Nets have less than $40 million committed under the cap. So they can sign Nene and still swing a trade with Brook for Dwight with their draft picks.
And they might amnesty outlaw and free up more money.
They can go over the cap to re-sign Dwight and Dwill and offer more money than any other team to do it.
That’s the plan I see. Y’all need to go to Hoops Hype and look at the salaries for your favorite team to get an understanding of how much cap space they have. Even if the Nets sign Nene at $12 million a year, they still have cap space.

AllenP, you just said that Nene’s all about the money and that he stays in DEN. So how can NJ trade for DHow without Nene? DA just said on NBA TV, that ORL has no interest in the BLopez+2 First Round picks deal that NJ proposed.

  • Youngindy21

Well it looks like the Nets are going to get Nene because I don’t see Indiana or Denver paying that much for him and rightfully so. That is probably too much to pay Nene. They are probably doing this as a way to get Dwight Howard but I don’t if the Magic want Nene for that much.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

sry Huey, I typed my second comment without reading yours or Allenp’s. lolz.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Oh, I didn’t know Orlando had no interest. I thought the Nets were trying to get Nene, Dwight and Dwill all on the same team, not use Nene as a trade chip. They couldn’t even do that with a free agent they had just signed.
I think Nene goes back to Denver, and Dwight goes to L.A. or New Jersey. I’m hoping for New Jersey.

  • BAYLORBEARS2012

Weird… isnt this one of the reasons why the NBA had the lockout… Overpaying players? how ironic.

  • MikeC.

^ not NJ please. I don’t want to see him throwing Amare and Tyson through the hoop over and over for the next half decade.
