San Antonio Spurs to Sign TJ Ford

TJ Ford will be taking his talents to San Antonio, where he’ll back up Tony Parker. From the Express-News: “After agreeing to sign a contract with the Spurs that will make him Tony Parker’s primary backup at the point guard position, former University of Texas star T.J. Ford said he was anxious to open training camp with the Spurs on Friday. ‘I can’t wait to get there,’ he said from his home in Houston. Ford is expected to sign a contract for the NBA veteran minimum. With eight seasons in the NBA with Milwaukee, Toronto and Indiana, that makes the deal worth $1.266 million, which will be pro-rated for the shortened season. Just one week removed from playing for KK Zagreb in the Euroleague, where he emigrated after the NBA locked out its players in July, Ford said he is more than ready for the start of Spurs camp. ‘This is a great opportunity for me to continue to play,’ said Ford, who led the Longhorns to the NCAA Final Four in 2003. ‘I understand my role in the NBA now. I accept it and look forward to getting started on Friday. I want to help these guys pick up where they left off in the regular season and I believe I can be a positive factor for them off the bench.’”

Im not a huge Spurs fan, but I think this is a real good signing. Even t hough he was on the outside looking in with the Pacers whenever he got a chance to play he really shined, he was sort of their instant offense. I may have have missed it, but why was he on the outs w/ the team?

Remember when TJ said he hates fans? I do. Here’s hoping Joseph steals all his minutes…

Damn, I guess that means less minutes for Cory Joseph =(

Mixed feelings on this on one I’m, pulling 50/50 for Cory Jo for that second pg spot.

I hate this dude. His AAU coach bought the opposing team’s play book so TJ could get his scholarship to play for UT. He and his father made a deal that they were gonna re-pay him when he made it to the league and become a big star. That never happened. Now this dude sorry and the coach he got his ass kicked.

I’m not sure how much Ford’s game has changed since he was with the Raptors, but I hated watching him play on the Raptors – just an out of control player.

Cory Joseph was the 4th best player on the Texas team last year. Didn’t show the skills that would indicate him doing well as a rookie. TJ’s fast and can handle and knows his role.

RASHAAD SINGLETON, 7’0/280 LBS., WILL BE A FREE AGENT IN THE SUMMER. RASHAAD WAS JAPAN’S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE LEAGUE IN 2009-10, LED IN BLOCKS AND #5 IN REBOUNDS; RASHAAD GETS DOUBLE DIGIT REBOUNDS. HIS COACHES CALL HIM A SHOT-BLOCKING MENACE, PLUS HE SCORES. RASHAAD’S SKILLS CAN DEFINITELY HELP A NBA TEAM WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP. RASHAAD’S STATS ARE SIMILAR TO TYSON CHANDLER’S AND SAMUEL DALEMBERT’S STATS, 2 OF THE NBA’S TOP CENTERS….GO NBA!!!
