‘Serious Talks’ for 3-Team Trade that Could Send Howard to Nets

The Nets are back at work in their never-ending chase on Dwight Howard, this time in talks for a three-way trade with the Magic and Trail Blazers that would send Howard to Jersey and Gerald Wallace and Brook Lopez to the Magic. ESPN.com has the report: “The New Jersey Nets have entered into serious talks with the Orlando Magic on a multiteam trade scenario that would that bring Dwight Howard to the Nets, according to sources close to the process. Sources told ESPN.com that the most active proposal discussed by the teams would sendPortland Trail Blazers swingman Gerald Wallace to the Magic along with Nets center Brook Lopez as two of the main pieces Orlando would receive in exchange for Howard. As part of such a trade, which could be expanded to include a fourth team, sources say Orlando would also shed the long-term contracts of Hedo Turkoglu and Chris Duhon—both absorbed by New Jersey—while also potentially receiving future draft considerations. Other players would have to be added to the deal to make the salary-cap math work, but sources said Portland would receive multiple first-round picks as part of the exchange for surrendering Wallace and facilitating the trade.”

    Good trade for all teams.

  • Awkwardaaron

    Who do Portland get ??

  • KH10

    Apart from the Blazers, sure.

  • hushabomb

Man Crash is getting bounced around like Chauncey. I actually like him on the Blazers. With Felton, Matthews, Aldridge and Camby it gives you a fast dynamic lineup that is versatile offensively and defensively. Also he’s a veteran and an all star.

If that trade happens, the Blazers better get one of the top picks this year (Barnes, Sullinger, Lamb or Teague)

  • http://www.slamonline.com aman from arkansas

this is good trade. i wanna no what 5 nba teams aren’t losing money.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

Thats a bad trade for the Blazers, because if you get the Nets’ picks while they get Dwight you’ll get a pick in the twenty’s..
And I don’t know if Orlando has any picks.

  • http://www.slamonline.com megatron

do the blazers even have a gm?

  • Lew alcindor

If the Nyets get dwight, what will their future look like regarding getting other good players?

  • vctmac

thts a good deal, howard shud jus leave asap from the magic and pursue a title. the most obvious deal is for chic or lakers. i dono if hes pursuing those teams. gives jr a chance to resign in march and chandler.. (hopefully)

  • Ldub20

Its clear that Howard doesnt want to win. He talks a big game about it, but if you look at him even thinking about going to the Nets…it makes no sense. The only other person worthy of playing with there is DWill, and if he decides to go elsewhere next season, then what? Sure that cap room will be available, but who would they get to fill the void of possibly the 2nd best pg in the league. Paul will be somewhere like LA or potentially signing w/ the Knicks. The trade is good for the Magic, because they get a good 3/4 piece and a good 5 piece. The Blazers get nothing, and lose a really good high energy player.

  • LA Huey

I find it amusing that Dwight is willing to go from one annoying coach that looks like a cartoon to another.

  • Holiday

Portland should make an offer, Howard and Aldridge would Kill it together!

  • jarrett

Ldub20: what are you talking about? if the Nets get Howard, not only will Deron Williams stay, but Dwight would be playing with the best teammate he ever had on the same team. So how does Dwight not want to win? That Orlando team is terrible

  • http://nba.com GP23

If he wants rings… then Lakers or Mavs would be his best fit, or if he is thinking way into the future, then the Bulls or Thunder.

  • zero

good trade..go for it magic..howard sucks already..

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Dwight gonna regret becoming a Net while he’s looking up to the Knicks the rest of his career.

  • B.C.

I don’t see why the Blazers would even want to make this trade. They would lose Gerald Wallace for pretty much nothing, Blazers have all the right pieces with PG Felton SG Matthews/Roy (not officialy retired) SF Gerald Wallace PF LaMarcus Aldridge C Marcus Camby/Greg Oden. This trade would make no sense for them I would either trade Batum instead of Wallace or not make the trade at all because it doesn’t benefit the Blazers in any way.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Blazers slashing salary…ready to bite bullet and get top lottery pick.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

    ^
There’s no way the Blazers are not making the playoffs..

  • BhCommander

The Blazers are entering a rebuilding phase. Two of their 3 “cornerstones” (Roy and Oden) are done; LaMarcus is dealing with some seriously scary heart issues. It’s time for them to fall back, clear space, and collect draft picks.

  • Jay

somehow Billy King will screw this up.

  • robb

That’s a good deal for Orlando but not for Portland. I don’t think it’s gonna happen. And why would Portland look for a top lottery pick? they always end up getting the wrong guy.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    BhCommander FTW

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

Talking bout the Thunder wouldn’t they have room for Dwight next year if they didn’t sign Perkins?
Westbrook, Harden, KD, Ibaka, Dwight= chip.

  • DieselMechanic

Tough couple of days for the Blazers. RIP BRoy.

  • http://Slamonline.com Kap

When did Brook Lopez, the guy who averages about six rebounds, become such a valuable trade chip? This is highway robbery.

  • burnt_chicken

i would not be entirely shocked if IAMORANGE’s name was HOMER I. AM. All caps. His reality must be a wonderful, wonderful place, full of lollipops and sunshine–in a land where wishes really do come true!!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I can’t see the Blazers making this deal. They just got Wallace, they are losing Brandon Roy. Why would they dump the second or third best player on their team for draft picks?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

People are projecting based on Lopez’s rookie season when he was at about 8 boards a game and had several 30 and 10 nights.
They are giving him the sophomore slump pass I think. Makes sense.
if the Nets get Dwight, then Dwill is resigning with them in the summer most likely, and they are going to get some additional help.
In fact, they might even be able to convince Dwight or Dwill to skip voiding the last year on their deal with the promise that they will spend money on free agents next summer, and then resign those two at the end of their deals.
That would be the best way to add pieces.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I’m pretty sure the Knicks will be kicking themselves when the two players they actually did want are beating the guys they prematurely jumped at. Dwight and Dwill is absolutely great. It makes Amar’e and Melo pairing together look like Pancakes and Spam to Dwight and Deron’s Chicken and Waffles.

  • http://nbasobrietystrike.blogspot.com/ CoolWhip

well, Blazers are looking to be in full-on rebuilding mode so they want cap flexibility and draft picks.
Would love to see Howard and D-Will, but don’t know if that tandem still makes them better than Dwight staying on Magic. They aren’t better than MIA or CHI, and probably not Boston, or even NY.

  • LA Huey

Looks like KG’s odd food analogy has caught on. nbk, I agree with Dwight/Deron > Amare/Melo but your comparison was weird.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

A DWill/DHow duo is significantly better and younger than Amare/Melo.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Haha I know it was, I just got a new comp at work
And that was my last comment from the old one, needless to say, I rushed through it.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Co Sign Huey kinda co signing nbk lol. Deron,Dwight>Amare,Melo. Better for me though would be Kobe and Dwight… Common Lakers brass.

  • Lloyd

Get off Dwight’s back about not wanting to win. If he goes to a powerhouse team like the Laker and Mavs like some of you are suggesting, he get’s “LeBron-ed” and gets called a sellout who can’t win. If he goes to a really crappy team, then he’s a slacker who doesn’t want to win but just wants the money? Dude led his team to the finals a couple year’s back…you don’t get there by accident, you have to have the heart to win.

And that point is solely based on the assumption that the Nets are a crappy team. They’re in a VERY promising rebuilding phase and already have an All-Star calibre piece in DWill. I think the Nets situation is perfect for Dwight. They’re not too good that he’d get critisized for joining a powerhouse, and not too unappealing that he could be accused for joining about the money. Pluse the DWill-Dwight tandem would be crazy fun to watch!

  • LA Huey

LakeShow, I want Dwight to go to the Nets but I wouldn’t mind if he landed with LA. Ideally, CP3 pairs up with Kobe and Dwight with Deron. I want my Laker hate to stay strong and to see the Nets have the upperhand against the Knicks.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

If Knicks get a high caliber point guard then they could still have potential to rival Nets and Heat. But I don’t see it happening.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Allen: Last year was Brook’s third year. And 20-6 for a 22 year old is impressive nonetheless. He averaged 19-9 the year before so yeah, he’s a good building block. And Portland clearly wants to free up playing time for Batum.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

6 rebounds for a starting center and centerpiece of team is horrible. No excuse.

  • LA Huey

Wade averaged as many rebounds Brook? I had no idea. No wonder Orlando isn’t high on the kid.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Portland is apparently hesitant to include Crash because they believe he has become the heart of the team in the few short weeks/months he was on the roster.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

The Nyets will be looking up to Melo, Stat and Chanlder for a long time. They’ll never be the class of New York. BOOK IT!

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

    nbk: you on twitter?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    yeah buddy

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

nbk can’t be taken serious when he talks about the Knicks. Everyone knows this.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

If any of the 3 overpaid Knicks players get hurt, or break down (which seems pretty likely between Amar’e and Tyson) they are completely screwed, and will spend half a decade trying to recoup from those horrid contracts.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

The Magic according to twitter have just ended all trade discussions for D12.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Whats your @ on there Kap? if you don’t mind me asking

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Lake, do you really believe that Kobe/DHow is better than DWill/DHow? Kobe’s better than DWill but DWill’s significantly younger and his ability to get his teammates involved would make DHow that much better. I know that kobe had tremendous success with Shaq but DHow isn’t Shaq.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Dwight Howard is most effective offensively in P&R situations. I think it’s obvious he would be a better two-way player with Williams than he would with Bryant.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

nbk is as bitter as Kris Humphries. One got dumped by Kim, the other got dumped by Amar’e when he left the Suns for the Knicks. LMAO!!!

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

    @nbk: dr_griffith

  • AD

for those bashhing brook…… brook had a couple of 30 point games last year… the guy can play… he mayb soft but fundementals can get him rebounding and scoring more points.. besides magic fans if he wants to play in NJ he’ll leave when the season is over

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Can’t find that name anywhere on twitter kap. @SooperFadeaway is me. Hey Orange, I honestly couldn’t think of a homer on this site I would rather have supporting Amar’e then yourself. It’s delusion that got him $100M guaranteed, it’s delusion that keeps people believing he’s worth it. Your entire career as a commenter is based on the same thing. Its perfect.

  • Holiday

All you hating on Brooks your all right, Orlando should just settle with Howard leaving for nothing at the end of the season. Id rather see Dwight in “Brooklyn” over LA, the Lakers are on a big decline… And looking up at the the knicks, really? Two selfish stars that don’t play defense and a defensive center that is limited on offensive! Plus they don’t have a real floor general, and if the get Paul it’ll just be lobs to Amare and Tyson… Melo’s strengths are with the ball in hand, He’ll be disgruntled quick!

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Big decline? The fortune of a team can change in seconds and they do still have Kobe and Gasol. They will be fine. They’re the Lakers

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Kap your thing is private or something that’s why. It’s forbidding me from following you for whatever reason.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

    I think I fixed it

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Taylor. I’m not saying KB, D-how is better than D-How, _____ (fill in blank with a player of choice) I was just saying homer stuff. I would love to see D-How and KB together as a Laker fan. D-Will and D-How makes more sense to me though. Lethal passing point with a high flying center vs a lethal shooting guard and a high flying center… I’ll take the PG, C combo. But as a homer, D-How to LA baby! I need it. Odom was my second favorite Laker… I’m a little depressed right now.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Lol that’s the Lakeshow I’ve come to appreciate

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

“Career” as a commenter? Now that’s funny! Delusion? SMH, look in the mirror bubba, you’re pretty DELUSIONAL yourself. The fact is you TRY so HARD to be respected/liked on SLAM, yet you come off like this know-it-all douchebag while tapping behind that keyboard of yours. It’s pretty clear to see YOU are INSECURE and have EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS. I’m not a hater either. In fact I’m a nice guy who’s good enough, smart enough, and doggone it, people like me. LMAO!

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Haha lol I don’t give a damn how anyone here feels about me Personally. Real people are real here and everywhere else, just like I’m a “know-it-all douchebag” at home and at work, Infront of, behind, with, without a keyboard. If I cared about people liking me you think I would disagree and argue with everyone that says delusional sh*t like you do on a regular basis?

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

    caps locks gone wild

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

nbk, I know this, I am going to have so much fun giving you FACIALS all season long in Post Up whilst my Knicks are WINNING AND GRINNING with MELO, STAT, and TYSON leading the way. CAN’T WAIT for that to become a REALITY!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

lol, everyone knows they will be a good regular season team. You can brag about that all your little heart desires, nobody is logically going to argue against that. Then you’ll get extra delusional, say something crazy about the playoffs (just like this year) and be wrong again. Then you’ll tell us all the Knicks will win the year after that, and so on and so forth.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

    PAUSE!

  • LA Huey

Let deslusional homers have their fun while they can. Because in reality, there isn’t anything you can say that will hurt them more than when they witness their team flame out when it matters most.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

@nbk: Bottom line, enjoy it now while you can, before the new season is here and the REALITY is setting in your head that you in fact were WRONG about the 2011-12 New York Knicks. Yes, the Knicks still have a lot of work to do preparing for this season, but they’ll be a much better TEAM, and come real season they’ll be one of the top seeds in the East primed for a deep playoff run. It will be fun to see how you go about trying to save face in front of your “slamily” during this coming season. I really can’t wait. LMFAO!

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Huey your Lakers are having a heck of an off-season. How’s that for delusional? lmao

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Top seeds in the east and 2nd round exit. Nothing this season will prove me wrong unless they eliminate Mia, Chi, or a healthy Boston from the playoffs and that ain’t happenin as currently constructed

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Anything is possible, but I don’t trust Amare and Melo. Never have and never will

  • LA Huey

Orange, why do you assume I’m a Laker fan and not a Clipper fan? Either way, you’d be wrong. I hate the Lakers and don’t care for the Clippers.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Or a “healthy Boston.” LOL at that qualifier! Were the Knicks “healthy” during last seasons playoffs, nbk? How many games did they even have together with everyone healthy after that trade deadline deal for Carmelo and Billups? That seed they had wasn’t even representative of the team they would have been if they had a training camp and a full 82 games together without the constant trade speculation surrounding their team. Can’t wait for a fresh start and full season with our NEW BIG 3 sans the chemistry killing trade speculation like last year.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Huey, I could have sworn you’re a Lakers fan. Who’s your team then? Don’t cop-out and say you don’t really have a team, and just like to watch good basketball. nbk, a Suns fan, has already been using that cowardly position.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Boston has nothing to prove Einstein, how healthy new York was last season is irrelevant, they got swept.. Boston healthy > the Knicks. There is no way anyone should reasonably think the Knicks are better with the rosters how they are.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Just stop nbk… The Knicks never get swept if they don’t lose Amar’e and Billups to injury so early in that series. That series likely goes 7 games if the Knicks don’t lose Billup and Stoudemire. I’m not saying they get past the C’s, but they definitely had a punchers chance if they had a healthy core. BOTTOM LINE, nbk, A HEALTHY 2011-12 KNICKS are contenders out East. Still a lot of work left for the Knicks to make that happen, but I LOVE their chances this season much much better than last season. Hopefully they can add a few more pieces before the season starts… :)

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Sure you should love their chances compared to last year. Doesn’t make them legitimate contenders though.

  • LA Huey

I live in Seattle. Thus, a Sonics fan. So I’ll “cop out” and just enjoy good basketball until we get our team back 20-some years from now.

  • http://Barondavisisfat.youaretoo nbk

^ lol, that’s going to be some kind of excuse. “you mean your a Thunder fan but don’t want to admit it when the Knicks have a better record a better small forward and get further in the playoffs, but whatever way to cop out like that jealous Suns fan” something along those lines.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

The Nets seriously need a new name and logo design. The New Jersey Nets? Really? That’s like having a hockey team called The New Jersey Goals, or a football team called The New Jersey Fields. They need to step up their creativity. For baseball they had the Brooklyn Dodgers–how cool is that? The Brooklyn Nets? Really??
And their logo is so lame–their jerseys look good in red, but the grey is not doing it for me. They need to revamp. I thought Jay-Z and Prokhorov were supposed to be hip.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Of course, I’m only saying this because if Dwight Howard goes to the Nets, I almost have to hop on that bandwagon. The Knicks are looking good, but Deron Williams (possibly my favorite point guard) and Dwight Howard (the last real center in the NBA) is ridiculously cool.
Too bad I never lived in Brooklyn… but whatever. It’s still New York, lol.

  • Justin

Actually Teddy, in hockey it would still be the New Jersey Nets. lol

  • AQWORD

LOL . nbk is the new Brain Crawfish !

  • Scoop Shot

how’s iman shumpert doin’ now? go nyk!
