‘Serious Talks’ for 3-Team Trade that Could Send Howard to Nets

The Nets are back at work in their never-ending chase on Dwight Howard, this time in talks for a three-way trade with the Magic and Trail Blazers that would send Howard to Jersey and Gerald Wallace and Brook Lopez to the Magic. ESPN.com has the report: “The New Jersey Nets have entered into serious talks with the Orlando Magic on a multiteam trade scenario that would that bring Dwight Howard to the Nets, according to sources close to the process. Sources told ESPN.com that the most active proposal discussed by the teams would sendPortland Trail Blazers swingman Gerald Wallace to the Magic along with Nets center Brook Lopez as two of the main pieces Orlando would receive in exchange for Howard. As part of such a trade, which could be expanded to include a fourth team, sources say Orlando would also shed the long-term contracts of Hedo Turkoglu and Chris Duhon—both absorbed by New Jersey—while also potentially receiving future draft considerations. Other players would have to be added to the deal to make the salary-cap math work, but sources said Portland would receive multiple first-round picks as part of the exchange for surrendering Wallace and facilitating the trade.”

    Good trade for all teams.

  • Awkwardaaron

    Who do Portland get ??

  • KH10

    Apart from the Blazers, sure.

  • hushabomb

Man Crash is getting bounced around like Chauncey. I actually like him on the Blazers. With Felton, Matthews, Aldridge and Camby it gives you a fast dynamic lineup that is versatile offensively and defensively. Also he’s a veteran and an all star.

If that trade happens, the Blazers better get one of the top picks this year (Barnes, Sullinger, Lamb or Teague)

this is good trade. i wanna no what 5 nba teams aren’t losing money.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

Thats a bad trade for the Blazers, because if you get the Nets’ picks while they get Dwight you’ll get a pick in the twenty’s..
And I don’t know if Orlando has any picks.

  • http://www.slamonline.com megatron

do the blazers even have a gm?

  • Lew alcindor

If the Nyets get dwight, what will their future look like regarding getting other good players?

  • vctmac

thts a good deal, howard shud jus leave asap from the magic and pursue a title. the most obvious deal is for chic or lakers. i dono if hes pursuing those teams. gives jr a chance to resign in march and chandler.. (hopefully)

  • Ldub20

Its clear that Howard doesnt want to win. He talks a big game about it, but if you look at him even thinking about going to the Nets…it makes no sense. The only other person worthy of playing with there is DWill, and if he decides to go elsewhere next season, then what? Sure that cap room will be available, but who would they get to fill the void of possibly the 2nd best pg in the league. Paul will be somewhere like LA or potentially signing w/ the Knicks. The trade is good for the Magic, because they get a good 3/4 piece and a good 5 piece. The Blazers get nothing, and lose a really good high energy player.

  • LA Huey

I find it amusing that Dwight is willing to go from one annoying coach that looks like a cartoon to another.

  • Holiday

Portland should make an offer, Howard and Aldridge would Kill it together!

  • jarrett

Ldub20: what are you talking about? if the Nets get Howard, not only will Deron Williams stay, but Dwight would be playing with the best teammate he ever had on the same team. So how does Dwight not want to win? That Orlando team is terrible

  • http://nba.com GP23

If he wants rings… then Lakers or Mavs would be his best fit, or if he is thinking way into the future, then the Bulls or Thunder.

  • zero

good trade..go for it magic..howard sucks already..

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Dwight gonna regret becoming a Net while he’s looking up to the Knicks the rest of his career.

  • B.C.

I don’t see why the Blazers would even want to make this trade. They would lose Gerald Wallace for pretty much nothing, Blazers have all the right pieces with PG Felton SG Matthews/Roy (not officialy retired) SF Gerald Wallace PF LaMarcus Aldridge C Marcus Camby/Greg Oden. This trade would make no sense for them I would either trade Batum instead of Wallace or not make the trade at all because it doesn’t benefit the Blazers in any way.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Blazers slashing salary…ready to bite bullet and get top lottery pick.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

    ^
There’s no way the Blazers are not making the playoffs..

  • BhCommander

The Blazers are entering a rebuilding phase. Two of their 3 “cornerstones” (Roy and Oden) are done; LaMarcus is dealing with some seriously scary heart issues. It’s time for them to fall back, clear space, and collect draft picks.

  • Jay

somehow Billy King will screw this up.

  • robb

That’s a good deal for Orlando but not for Portland. I don’t think it’s gonna happen. And why would Portland look for a top lottery pick? they always end up getting the wrong guy.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    BhCommander FTW

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

Talking bout the Thunder wouldn’t they have room for Dwight next year if they didn’t sign Perkins?
Westbrook, Harden, KD, Ibaka, Dwight= chip.

  • DieselMechanic

Tough couple of days for the Blazers. RIP BRoy.

  • http://Slamonline.com Kap

When did Brook Lopez, the guy who averages about six rebounds, become such a valuable trade chip? This is highway robbery.

  • burnt_chicken

i would not be entirely shocked if IAMORANGE’s name was HOMER I. AM. All caps. His reality must be a wonderful, wonderful place, full of lollipops and sunshine–in a land where wishes really do come true!!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I can’t see the Blazers making this deal. They just got Wallace, they are losing Brandon Roy. Why would they dump the second or third best player on their team for draft picks?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

People are projecting based on Lopez’s rookie season when he was at about 8 boards a game and had several 30 and 10 nights.
They are giving him the sophomore slump pass I think. Makes sense.
if the Nets get Dwight, then Dwill is resigning with them in the summer most likely, and they are going to get some additional help.
In fact, they might even be able to convince Dwight or Dwill to skip voiding the last year on their deal with the promise that they will spend money on free agents next summer, and then resign those two at the end of their deals.
That would be the best way to add pieces.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I’m pretty sure the Knicks will be kicking themselves when the two players they actually did want are beating the guys they prematurely jumped at. Dwight and Dwill is absolutely great. It makes Amar’e and Melo pairing together look like Pancakes and Spam to Dwight and Deron’s Chicken and Waffles.

  • http://nbasobrietystrike.blogspot.com/ CoolWhip

well, Blazers are looking to be in full-on rebuilding mode so they want cap flexibility and draft picks.
Would love to see Howard and D-Will, but don’t know if that tandem still makes them better than Dwight staying on Magic. They aren’t better than MIA or CHI, and probably not Boston, or even NY.

  • LA Huey

Looks like KG’s odd food analogy has caught on. nbk, I agree with Dwight/Deron > Amare/Melo but your comparison was weird.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

A DWill/DHow duo is significantly better and younger than Amare/Melo.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Haha I know it was, I just got a new comp at work
And that was my last comment from the old one, needless to say, I rushed through it.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Co Sign Huey kinda co signing nbk lol. Deron,Dwight>Amare,Melo. Better for me though would be Kobe and Dwight… Common Lakers brass.

  • Lloyd

Get off Dwight’s back about not wanting to win. If he goes to a powerhouse team like the Laker and Mavs like some of you are suggesting, he get’s “LeBron-ed” and gets called a sellout who can’t win. If he goes to a really crappy team, then he’s a slacker who doesn’t want to win but just wants the money? Dude led his team to the finals a couple year’s back…you don’t get there by accident, you have to have the heart to win.

And that point is solely based on the assumption that the Nets are a crappy team. They’re in a VERY promising rebuilding phase and already have an All-Star calibre piece in DWill. I think the Nets situation is perfect for Dwight. They’re not too good that he’d get critisized for joining a powerhouse, and not too unappealing that he could be accused for joining about the money. Pluse the DWill-Dwight tandem would be crazy fun to watch!

  • LA Huey

LakeShow, I want Dwight to go to the Nets but I wouldn’t mind if he landed with LA. Ideally, CP3 pairs up with Kobe and Dwight with Deron. I want my Laker hate to stay strong and to see the Nets have the upperhand against the Knicks.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

If Knicks get a high caliber point guard then they could still have potential to rival Nets and Heat. But I don’t see it happening.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Allen: Last year was Brook’s third year. And 20-6 for a 22 year old is impressive nonetheless. He averaged 19-9 the year before so yeah, he’s a good building block. And Portland clearly wants to free up playing time for Batum.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

6 rebounds for a starting center and centerpiece of team is horrible. No excuse.

  • LA Huey

Wade averaged as many rebounds Brook? I had no idea. No wonder Orlando isn’t high on the kid.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Portland is apparently hesitant to include Crash because they believe he has become the heart of the team in the few short weeks/months he was on the roster.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

The Nyets will be looking up to Melo, Stat and Chanlder for a long time. They’ll never be the class of New York. BOOK IT!

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

    nbk: you on twitter?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    yeah buddy

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

nbk can’t be taken serious when he talks about the Knicks. Everyone knows this.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

If any of the 3 overpaid Knicks players get hurt, or break down (which seems pretty likely between Amar’e and Tyson) they are completely screwed, and will spend half a decade trying to recoup from those horrid contracts.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

The Magic according to twitter have just ended all trade discussions for D12.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Whats your @ on there Kap? if you don’t mind me asking

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Lake, do you really believe that Kobe/DHow is better than DWill/DHow? Kobe’s better than DWill but DWill’s significantly younger and his ability to get his teammates involved would make DHow that much better. I know that kobe had tremendous success with Shaq but DHow isn’t Shaq.
