Steve Nash: ‘Very, Very Important’ for Suns to Re-Sign Grant Hill

39-year old Grant Hill is a coveted free agent, and should he leave Phoenix, that would make Steve Nash a very sad panda. From the Arizona Republic: “Unlike most people, Nash believes the Suns are a playoff team after missing the postseason last season at 40-42. Their roster and rotation likely will look largely the same as the front office keeps salary space in tact to pursue at least one maximum-level free agent in July. ‘I definitely would love to see us improve our roster but I think it’s up to us to find that little bit of magic and collectively and individually to give ourselves a chance to win enough games to get in the playoffs,’ Nash said. ‘I would never say we’re not a playoff team. That should be the minimum of our goals and let’s see how good we can get.’ Nash made it clear that he does not want to try to get the team back to the playoffs without Hill, a four-year member of the Suns who is an unrestricted free agent but a priority for Suns brass to sign on Dec. 9. ‘I’m very hopeful Grant will be back,’ Nash said. ‘It’s very, very important to me that he is back personally. I think he is very important to the team and community. ‘I think that, all things being even, Grant would want to come back here. I’m sure he’s going to be highly coveted by a lot of teams. Phoenix will have to really make him a great offer and put him in a position where he can’t say no to coming back.’”

Nash should just see where he goes and follow him. I really wish the Suns would trade him to a contender and at least give him a really good shot at a title. It would be the only reason for me to cheer for Miami if he ended up there although I’m not sure he would fit with them

Nash would fit in with Miami for the simple fact that everyone loves easy baskets! It would force everyone on the Heat to move without the ball and bring some fluidity to their offense. If Nash could get double digit assists with the Suns team he had last year, he’d set the assist record in Miami.

i see you, stevie. slowly preparing his exit.

Nash should never have signed the two year extension. It gave the cheap skate Robert sarver no reason to continually build championship teams, his meal ticket was wrapped up. He should have said he’ll stay as long as there’s talent around him

They’ll both be Knicks sooner or later.

steve on heat will be scary but thats not gonna happen

Steve throwing another assist to Grant. That’s what a real teammate looks like. Steve’s unselfishness is amazing, not pulling a Melo, or Paul by demanding a trade, or a Lebron by staying quiet and planning an exit. He is showing he cares about his team and his teammates, thats the type you wanna go to war with.

read: very, very important for Nash.
For the Suns, they could go any number of directions, but if they choose to do so with Nash in tow, they have to keep him happy

What a class act. Seriously. After seeing melo hold the nuggets hostage all last season, seein the whole wade/lebron/bosh thing happen, seeing chris paul doing the same thing as melo to the hornets… What a guy. Reminds me of KG back when KG said he would never leave minny. Gotta love loyalty. Nash might even be a bit too loyal. I would love to see him on a contender but its just not him to demand a trade.

I really really really want to see Nash and Hill get to the finals… please make it that Hill isn’t the only ‘prized’ Free Agent the Suns get…. please get this team some decent “allstar sized” help!?!

If Nash were to end up on Miami then Lebron better start to learn some post moves and how to move without the ball. This assuming he doesn’t mind deferring to Nash as far as ball handling duties go and they don’t try to make Nash just a spot up shooter. He could excel at it obviously but that’s not what’s made him a Hall of Fame point guard. At this point, Nash is almost the last of a dying breed of player. One that thinks about his teammates and team first instead of himself like he would have every right to do at this point in his career. Others should look to his example, but alas players would rather have things gift wrapped for them instead of working hard to make their situations better

I’m Nash’s biggest fan on this board, without a doubt… and uh, this isn’t exactly a selfless act here. He’s saying “My friend stays a Sun or we both leave the Suns.”

  • shutupallenp

^ I never said it wouldnt benefit him, but if you think about all the other ways players do things it special to see. And you pointed out exactly why, when you started the quote “my friend” thats what makes it selfless

Poor steve, every year he is quoted expressing his desire to see a teammate stay and every year all players that were deciding for the suns succes are either traded or allowed to leave…
See stoudemire, richardson, Bell, diaw, even matrix…
Steve needs to switch teams and come up for one more breath of fresh basketball air.

I miss a league where the team is above the individual.
I miss a league where the Kings were the NBA darlings.
I miss a league where the ABC game would read “Spurs-Knicks” instead of “Rose-Kobe.”
I miss a league where team pride was something tangible.
I miss a league where players were competitors first and friends second.
I miss a league without ESPN’s sensationalist coverage.
I miss a league where players focused on their game and not their own celebrity.
I miss a league where >20% of the teams had a chance to win.
I miss a league where every team had somebody marketable.
I guess most of all, I just miss the NBA.

@ez and joe Johnson because Sarver in his wisdom decided they already had Nash stat and Marion so they didn’t need jj. In other words they were.already guaranteed to sell tickets and make money so why spend more to try and win a championship
