Tracy McGrady to Join Hawks on 1-Year Deal

By signing Tracy McGrady to a one-year deal for the veteran minimum, the Hawks seem to be preparing for the potential loss of Jamal Crawford. From ESPN: “Tracy McGrady has agreed to a 1-year, veteran-minimum deal with the Atlanta Hawks, a source close to the situation told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.”

Not a bad signing, he has a little left in the tank. I’m somewhat surprised though, I thought he would end up in Miami for the veteran minimum.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Wish he was on a contender….

  • Kablamo

    T-Mac suck

  • T-Money

wow. so that means miami, chicago, l.a., boston didn’t approach him at all. it’s really the end of the road for him then.

  • DISH

Kablamo are Tmac and were are you think about that before you write something

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

While we are accumulating players who have had success in an Orlando Magic uniform, how about a Dwight Howard trade. Make it happen Hawks

I thought he was going to the Bulls…meh

  • Zabbah

So he’s going to be on the injured list for half of the season for the Hawks.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

@Zabbah, for the record, T-Mac did play 72 games last season and started in 39 of them. Although many of the starts came at point guard due to injuries to their 1s.

  • thor

Ain’t goona make up for the loss of Jamal. But I look forward to watching him on my team.

  • nbaNw8

NOO! I wanted him in Chicago!

  • 23

Tmac was a heat-hater, I remember he made comments about not being impressed by them

  • Bx Baller

Should have went to LA or Chicago. He could have started for either team

  • http://slamonline.com Lang Whitaker

I am not sure how to respond to this.

  • Jono

  • T-Money

Bx baller: the fact that he went to the A for the MINIMUM is a pretty clear indication that lakers or bulls were not calling, no?

  • http://www.myspace.com/mikebone Simmy Sosa

Its a solid move. Apparently J-Smoove is unhappy too so McGrady may have plenty of opportunity to show he can still play.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Yep I’m in that boat too Lang.

  • LA Huey

And thus continuing the trend of former Magic All-Stars ending their careers less-than-dignified way.

  • Kadavour

Dwight to Atlanta sounds feasible. don’t know how it would work out financially, but it is his hometown and the competition btwn him and Josh on the defensive side of the ball would be great for the league. btw, Joe Johnson is the real J-Smooth. Nothing about Josh Smith’s offensive game is smooth lol

  • slamfan4life

this means CHI is getting Crawford then? i kept hearing that S&T for brewer for jamal, makes sense if ATL signed Tmac……

  • IDOT

I think its a good signing. Mac can play the 1-3 positions and with Kirk Hinrich being out for a month recovering from surgery he play probably see tim at PG.

  • justin

    Tmacs the best

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH BUDDY!! Loving this. Just happy to see him on a squad with talent where he can be a valuable piece. Rooting for you T-Mac

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@LakeShow…yeah, I was geeked last summer when the rumors about Chicago were abuzz….deeply saddened when Pistons picked him up. Atlanta isn’t a bad place to be though. Could even see starting time at the 3, who knows. What I saw in the limited minutes and abysmal surroundings from his time in Detroit is that he’s grown into a point forward who still has more than competent ability to play at this level. rooting for him

T-Mac!!! Great move by the Hawks!!!

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

Joe Johnson + Al Horford for Dwight + Arenas should work. Orlando amnesties Hedo, signs someone like Nene, and they are still a playoff team with only one bad contract. The Hawks, between Teague, Josh Smith, and Dwight, are one of if not the best defensive team in the league, and have enough scoring to get to the ECF.

  • riggs

he personally had a great season with the pistons (Which i think most of you forgot)

  • http://www.t-mac.com/tmac/index unf*ckwitable

cosign riggs, Mac played well on a ridiculous team.

  • Kilo

Typical Hawk move one that is stupid.

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

I’m just glad T-Mac won’t be playing on another terrible team. Hopefully this means he can sign for a mid-level exception next year on a (true) contender, as elite teams can see that he can play at a high level with a good team still.

  • @Deknowz

  • http://www.nba.com VanCityBBall

i think ATL is a GOOD team but they are not a GREAT team… they need to reach that tough last step to be a real title contender and unfortunately, i dont think TMAC will do the trick

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

what, what are you talking about? Why would Orlando trade for Al Horford, then sign Nene?

  • http://www.slamonline.com BeantownBaller

There were a bunch of people running around Boston saying they saw A.I. with Celtics staff today!!! I didn’t believe it but why would someone lie about that????? any news SLAM?

  • Joe King

Its not the end of the line for him , he’s still a really good player

  • Joe King

maybe not a REALLY good player then

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

because Horford wants to play PF

  • ryan

    a forgotten hero….

  • Stevie Jenkins

Mac’s got a lot of game left.

You think cats are going to be able to hold this?

  • manu

chicagos gonna regret it for the 2nd year in a row

I was hoping he’d be on an elite team, but the Hawks are miles better than the Pistons. Best of luck to you T-Mac! Stay healthy man!

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

He can still ball seeing games of him in the Orlando days is just too sweet.

  • hushabomb

Its not necessarily how he’s playing. Its his veteran leadership that will come into play. He’s gonna help Smith, Williams, JJ, Hinrich, Horford. Even he has said that he will take a back seat if that’s what gonna make him win.

Its a good move for a team to get TMac, IMHO I wanted him on the Bulls, Celtics in the east and Suns or a playoff team in the west

  • dan

now that hes in atl get him some crunk juice and hes gonna put up 30 a night again.

  • http://nba.com/celtics lights out

always have love for T-Mac. plenty of solid games last year, especially as a starter (even a few near triple doubles when he ran point). and hey, at least he has a pretty good shot of getting out of the first round.

  • L44

Right on lights out…T-Mac was the best point guard on that team. He’s going to surprise the people who think he has nothing left this year. I just hope he stays healthy.

  • timboslice

He obviously doesnt have the same explosiveness but its easy also to see he has a much higher IQ which is what the hawks need, gotta have that savvy son, savvy

  • bigmike100

jus get pass da 2nd round mac its kinda hard defendin u wen dats all most ppl bring up.

  • galagu

maaannn hope they still resign crawford.

  • http://www.genkix143.webs.com Tmacgandia

I’m just happy for all the people responds to this news… Hater’s or supporter’s mean’s they are still people who’s interested.. GOOD or BAD PUBLICITY is still a PUBLICITY… Don’t Disappoint us T-MAC.. STAY HEALTHY and KEEP BALLi’n… ASIAN FANS are here for you…

  • thorax
