Chris Bosh: Dwyane Wade is the Miami Heat’s Best Closer

by Marcel Mutoni @marcel_mutoni

Chris Bosh, more than anything else, is known for his inability to be anything but candid with his words and emotions. Prior to taking his talents to South Beach, this trait made him mildly popular with fans and media, as they grew to appreciate this refreshing break from the usual athlete-speak clichés.

These days, however, Bosh’s honesty only seems to create headlines.

During an otherwise harmless Q&A with GQ magazine, Chris Bosh says that he prefers teammate Dwyane Wade taking the Heat’s last-second shots instead of LeBron James (and, um, himself.)

Controversy! OK, not really … :

GQ: … Let’s say the game was tied. 10 seconds left. You had 30 points, LeBron’s got 30, and Wade’s got 30. You got the same amount of rebounds, same amount of assists—having the same great game. Who takes the shot at the end to either win or lose the game. Chris Bosh: “[immediately] Dwyane.”

GQ: Why? Chris Bosh: “Because of his success in the past, given what he’s done. He’s a champ. He’s an MVP, and he’s hit a bunch of last-second shots. That’s the time you have to put pride aside a little bit, and do what’s best for the team. He’s quickest, and he’s gonna get a shot off. He relishes those moments.”

Once the media starts asking the Miami trio about these quotes, things might get a tad awkward in the Heat locker room, but this is not a big deal at all. Besides, Bosh is correct in his assessment.

Chris Bosh also claims that Dwyane Wade has better fashion sense than LeBron James, which will probably hurt LBJ’s pride much more than the clutch stuff.

Of course he’s right. Nothing to see here. Move along

  • svendesloper

Nobody cares about his opinion, why are reporters wasting their time with him?

  • AT33

Of course it’s DWade!! DWade has been the best player in the league since ’06, by far. It’s a shame they don’t put him on first team All-NBA squad. DWade is the new Jordan of the NBA. Not as great as Jordan but pretty close, closer than anyone has gotten to Jordan since Jordan left. LeBron is prolly second best player in the NBA and also since ’06 but by far the most athletic player to ever play in the NBA.

  • Justin G.

Well, now you’re stretching it a little bit because I think only you and DWade’s mom would say he is closer to Jordan than Kobe

  • Bt

@AT33 if you think Kobe was not a top 2 player in any year from 06 to now you Obviously have no idea about the NBA. A case could even big made for Duncan in 06 and 07 as well.

  • lisa

Oh Lord! I bet there are going to be a lot said about Bosh on this thread. You can say he is weak… But he is speaking the truth.

  • http://ZOGS.CA ZOGS

    Wade = Clutch
Bosh = Extemely underated in the clutch
Lebron = NOT CLUTCH (plain and simple)

  • WezoLv

^^^ idk about the best Player in the league since 06′ that’s Kobe fool. But DWade is and always will be miami’s main closer, the Batman!

  • Justin G.

@Bt…I would suggest he knows nothing about basketball let alone just the NBA

  • Sean B

I was trying to give LeBron the benefit of the doubt in clutch moments. He just doesn’t always seem to create the best shots with the game on the line. I think that’s the difference between the two. Wade goes for the more high percentage look, LeBron wants to hit hero 3′s and dramatic fallaway 20 footers.

Best example? Wade’s two game-winners this year, one was a bank shot from probably about 10 feet. The other was on a lob from an inbounds play.(pass from LeBron of course) Does LeBron even make a cut to the basket like Wade on that inbound play against Minnesota? Hard to say.

I think his suspect free-throw shooting prevents him from attacking the rim late in games. He was pathetic from the line against Golden State.

  • Justin G.

ZOGS, careful about calling Wade clutch. JTaylor and nbk are likely to come in with some formula as to why he isn’t.

  • lisa

Lol… C’mon man, you really love Wade huh? He is a very good player and in 06 he was amazing but not even close to Jordan NOT EVER!

  • lisa

Thanks to Justin… It will be a loooong day! :)

  • lisa

    Did yall scare AT33 away?

  • Justin G.

    Why? What did I do?

  • http://sfjklf.com Jukai

“Duh” says the rest of the NBA.
Even if Lebron was superclutch, Wade is one of the best closers in the game.
I don’t even get why this is an issue.

  • Meat-Hook

Bosh gave an honest answer. It was also the correct answer. What more could anyone want or expect?

  • shutup

He forgot to say “if he gets fouled he’ll actually make the free throws” I want this heat to win, but its tough to win a chip when you have so many mental mistakes.

  • bike

I thought Bosh was smarter than this. What an epically stupid thing to say.
This team’s biggest enemy is itself.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

    Say something everybody allready knows,..

  • Mvp23100

Clutch was Chicago and Boston last year hitting the big shots as well as making defensive stops on those teams best players I f*ck with Wade but 06 was 06 people over analyze things in this Skip Bayless era what were Wade and Bron doing before the big 3 came together homie couldn’t reach the CF

  • manu

how is wade the best player when he’s not even the best at his own position?

  • T-Ray

If I guy is asked a question you normally answer right? Who gives a sh*t if he says Wade. I bet if he said LeBron most of you guys would have a fit. It’s his own opinion no need to bash him for it.

  • https://plus.google.com/photos/106403650426394352312/albums/posts davidR

lebron makes the better decisions. you need him to handle the ball during crunch time.
wade is the better closer. you need him to handle the ball with time running out.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Bron is the better player who makes better decisions. Wade gets careless at times. That being said, Wade has that “takeover” mentality when the game’s on the line. He attacks with no hesitation, no tentativeness, no fear.I’d like to see the Heat close games similar to the Shaq+Kobe Laker Dynasty: Shaq dominates for 3 1/2 quarters with Kobe taking over during crunch time.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

Come on dude what the hell you smoking. we all know lebron has some 4th quarter problems. But its not like he never closed out a game. Did you miss last years playoff games against the bulls and the celtics.

  • T-Ray

    cosign @Rik
Game 5 of the ECF was a good example of LeBron going ape sh*t in the crunch time.

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com yada

everybody wants to play the hero/villian game. the TRUTH is all the great players in the league have had their share of CLUTCH moments and moments when they failed!! i thought kenny smith kobe/lebron analysis lastnite was ON POINT!! but ofcourse the world is a hype machine so it has to be 1 or the other

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

It is what it is. Apart from the SF/CF Bron hasn’t been very clutch since joining the Heat, so I guess Bosh is right to a certain extent. With the cavs though, Bron was superior in the clutch.

  • MLK4Life

Bosh is the most honest of these three. This isn’t news. Those who have watched LeBron and Dwyane up until this point see that Dwyane has no conscience when it comes to end of game situations. Objective opinion is in line with this. If you’re a LeBron fanatic, you may disagree. The bigger problem here is the Heat have two of the best three players in the world on the same team. There’s no excuse for them to have confusion at the end of games at this point. Either Dwyane or LeBron should be able to get it done. Period.

Bosh is cool. No ifs , but’s , or maybes about it. Truth . All you hataz would ride his gonads in a minute.

  • Sparty’s Law

and he has been since his rookie year

  • shem

This soap opera ninja needs to keep his hemotions to his-self…smh! That said, I don’t care who is more clutch jus bring the damn chip to Miami and Bosh need to get on the boards…UD grabs more boards than him off the bench!!!

  • http://leipzig-eagles.de/ Speedy

Most people seem to forget that Bron brought the Heat to the finals.
DWade wasn’t good in the semis and the conference finals.
It is always about the team, thats why I don’t understand guys that value their teammates in the media. In the future both Bron and Wade will have their moments.

  • http://leipzig-eagles.de/ Speedy

I miss the past a bit when I see Bosh giving interviews and making photoshootings. Charles Oakley or some other enforcer would have some nice motivatins when playing against this guy.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

LeBron is for the first 3 quarters, Wade is for the 4th, and Bosh is for when both are injured.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

    Chalmers is pretty clutch.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

This is actually totally false. while both were clutch on their respective teams for YEARS, when lebron joined the heat both were actually horrible in the 4th quarter and have been ever since. Also yes d.wade hit that game winner in charlotte but lebron did lead them to the finals. To be honest… bosh is probably the best closer in the 4th.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

actually mlk4life… objectively we’d say both lebron and wade are horrible in the 4th quarter NOW.. at least.

  • byebye

bosh is dumb miami hasnt done anything since 06 dwade is my dog but labron carried mo williams an crew to the best record back to back

  • bashmo

Carmelo is still statistically the most clutch player in the league..followed by CP3

  • bike

“Chris Bosh also claims that Dwyane Wade has better fashion sense than LeBron James”

What a very odd thing to say.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

NO he’s statistically one of the best clutch shooters in the league. Not clutch players. The best clutch players win the most often. Which since Chris Paul entered the league, just so happens to be him. And Dirk is a distant 2nd.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

    lol @ Caboose.

  • Bill

Didn’t James once score 25 consecutive points to beat Detroit to send the Cavs(James and the 4 scrubs)to the NBA Finals? Such a choker.

  • JoeMaMa

It’s funny reading some of these posts. If you watch Lebron, he makes the open pass. He was castigated for doing so way back when he was on the Cavs. He’d get doubled, and make the smart play. He’s a team player. Some people take that as “scared”. I think that, for some games, that MAY be the case. But he’s taken a ton of game ending shots. He’s created great plays for his team. And now, he still gets the ball at the end of the game and makes things happen. Clutch isn’t taking the ball and chucking it. It’s listening to your coach, running the play, making the right moves, and putting your team in the best position to win. That’s basketball. Don’t mistake passing to the open man, and playing team ball, for being scared. And again…there have been times where, as a young guy, he didn’t make the right play. It’s part of growing into the best player you can be. I say this as a Raptors fan. I’m not a Miami guy.

  • ripslam

@JoeMaMa – the fact is that LeBron is downright passive in the clutch – playing team ball is all well and good, but with >10 seconds on the clock, he’s the guy who’s the face of the team, the dude who came into Miami treated like some sort of deity. Being clutch isn’t holding the ball on the perimeter, making a sloppy drive and whipping it helplessly to Mike Miller. He’s gotta step up, or just give it to Wade.

  • http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=pawtucketymca Gametimeweezy

Okay my only question then is why does it seem its LeBron continually going one on one in the last minutes of games and not running more plays for DWade consistently?

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

    cosign joemama

  • JoeMaMa

@Gametime: Lebron is good enough to go 1 on 1 and make the best play. Do you think Spoelstra is consistently drawing up plays that Lebron screws by taking it 1 on 1? That IS the play. If Riley didn’t like it, he’d go to both Spoelstra and Lebron and say “don’t do that”, and it wouldn’t happen. Isolate Lebron. Drive, draw the double, make the pass. If the double doesn’t come, take it to the hole, get the shot, draw the foul. Or, if the circumstance calls for it, get DWade the isolation at the top of the key, which also happens. Match ups, who’s hot, defensive particulars..it all contributes. DWade is a killer. And him having won a title probably speaks to the decision Bosh made. Wade has done it. So yeah, it makes sense. But his response isn’t a repudiation a Lebron. That’s foolish to think so.

  • http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=pawtucketymca Gametimeweezy

I just don’t think the Heat are running any plays at all down the stretch. And I don’t believe letting LeBron continually to go one on one is the best play when you have Wade and Bosh. This isn’t Cleveland… run a play. And if Spoelstra, who I think is a GREAT coach, doesn’t stop letting the players ‘freestyle’ so much late in games, it’s going to eventually cost him his job.

  • tweetumz22

As far as the comment on bosh, He is not helping the team to better ends, rather he is making issues to talk about. They should help each other for the team, Each player have their own weaknesses,, trio is there in miami to help the team for a championship not on the other way. If bosh and wade only can win a championship in miami without James.. you will never win a ring as long as you are together….

  • tweetumz22

Wade is good player, quickness, move is there but in times of trouble, he is trying to take more shots by himself,,, the pride of wade is there. But If you’ll find a time to ask wade, do you want to work with James? He’ll absolutety say YES

  • T-Money

Bosh is a very smart guy but he has very low emotional intelligence, i.e. he doesn’t know how to sense potentially damaging situations. This will not affect the relationship between Bron and Wade because they really are like brothers. However, I can’t imagine that Bron is loving Bosh right now, regardless of what he says. This is just unnecessary.

  • http://slamonline.com Tae

Some idiot up top said Wade has been tha best player since 06. Smmfh, go jump off a cliff

  • feez_22

Let me just dead this statement right here… wade is 4-38 in hitting game tying or game winning shots in the 4th quarter the last 4 yrs. That is the worst mark of ANY PLAYER in that span. closer my ass.

  • zero

chris bosh is like an ostrich!

  • http://sfjklf.com Jukai

LOL, looks like Lebron has gone through all three stages of collapses:
1- Shying away from taking any shot and looking scared
2- Taking every god damn shot and missing them
3- Hitting every shot in the fourth but your team still getting creamed
    Let’s go Heat!

  • anthony

  • Cheema

wade is way better than Kobe, and has been 4 about 5 years now. But Bosh is wrong to say that even if he beleives it. Plus this is the same dude that cant create a shot off in an iso situation. all his buckets are from the passes from Lebron and wade he receives when they are doubled and he is open for the shot, or drives to the lane for phantom calls.

  • Niyagirlfresh

Lmao @ someone saying Wade has been the best player since 06. Lord where have some people been at over the past decade **smh** Lol!

  • Justin G.

Wade is way better than Kobe huh? lol I’ve never done drugs but I bet I could get a really good price for whatever Cheema’s smoking. And all of Bosh’s baskets are set ups from Lebron and Wade. He doesn’t take anybody off the dribble or hit face up jumpers. Good Lord

  • Zack

How much of a dumbass is Bosh to even answer this question. Why say something that would create tension, they are struggling right now anyway.

  • MikeK13

    Durant enough said

  • http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=pawtucketymca Gametimeweezy

Sucks that DWade wrecked his ankle last night Bosh really gotta step up now… LeBron is probably gonna catch a few triple doubles. Be nice to see him hit a game winner or 2 to silence the critics.

  • janice

I think that bosh is jealous of james in so many ways…he jealous of james and wade frienship…and all the press that james gets…because wade does not get much press..he needs to talk about why he use to run across the floor like a girl…thats what i need to know…

  • awesome 1

Well D-Wade is my son and I think the coaching needs to be better!!! I think the decision making is horrible…. if the heat had better plays, all three could have very successful forth quarters and a very high percentage closing clutch shots!!!! I have seen all three on other respective teams have great moments…. even Bosh!!!! They will soon get it together!!!! Go Wade and Miami!!!
