DeShawn Stevenson Was Sending Message to Blake Griffin With Flagrant Foul

Blake Griffin was having himself a grand old time dunking all over the hapless New Jersey Nets yesterday, so DeShawn Stevenson took it upon himself to do something about it. This, of course, changed nothing as the Nets still lost. From the Star-Ledger: “The Nets’ DeShawn Stevenson admitted his flagrant foul on Blake Griffin was an attempt to send a message to the Los Angeles Clippers’ power forward after Griffin had been pushing the Nets around and throwing down dunks at will in the first half. ‘He was dunking all over the place,’ Stevenson said of Griffin, whom he bumped from behind when Griffin went up for another one of those lob passes with 3:22 remaining in the second quarter of today’s 101-91 loss. ‘I didn’t try to foul him hard, but when he’s up in the air like that there was no way I could give a foul but to bring him down.’ Stevenson said he wasn’t trying to hurt Griffin, last year’s rookie of the year and Slam Dunk champ. The Nets seemed to appreciate the effort. ‘I think it just showed that you can’t just let (Griffin) dunk all over us,’ Deron Williams said. ‘There were a couple plays where it was just one dribble and dunking on us and there’s no help. Things like that don’t happen with playoff teams.’”

They’re complaining because Blake dunked all over them? Who’s fault is that? Play some D if you don’t want BG dooking on y’all faces. Silly Pro’s.

I guess that the message is that he wants to die … imagine an enraged Blake Griffin… if his arm strength is proportional to his leg strength and power, then you’d better not be there when he throws a punch

@willy they wasnt complaining at all… Blake is a great player but he was pushing the nets palyer and getting away with it…. i was amazed on how much the refs where letting him get away with it…… Plus blake has a history of trying to bully people ….. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQrNYIBw3fw

You can’t just come into the lane and dunk without no punishment. That’s the old way of playing

@ Mike From Spain: power is not a factor that wins fights my friend, why it is speed that defines the outcome of all engagements.

    @ Mike From Spain,

I think “Crazy” is a bigger factor than leg/arm strength in a fight. Blake didn’t want any part of Andre Miller last year. Deshawn is bigger, and just as crazy if not crazier.

I’ve been lifting heavy weights for 15 years yet I refuse to fight anyone with a lisp or a lazy eye. I just associate each with insanity and a thirst for blood. I dunno, maybe it’s because ‘Iron’ Mike and ‘Debo’ from Friday are the 2 scariest people on the face of the planet.

That being said; who would be the one NBA player that would make you puss out of a fight? Even in front of your Girlfriend/Wife and kids?

    For me, it’s Reggie Evans.

This was standard fare up until the mid-90s.

Good attempt at sending message. It’s part of the game although it’s dirty. I would commit hard fouls if necessary if some body kept getting layups. Clipping someone in mid air is bush league, IMO. Los Angeles with a win and it’s all good. Go Clippers! Win 3 straight! Beat Utah tonight then those stupid mavericks at home.

@ Max, I would apologize to Ivan’s hand after he slapped me in the face . . . that’s how mean dude looks!

The Clips were killin em early on . 31-13 or somthin. I’m sure coach had something to do with it. ”DON’T JUST LET EM WALTZ IN. HIT EM’ OR I WILL KOBE YOUR WIVES !!”

  • Mike from Spain

@da meat hook -> So you would run away like mad if someone with a lazy eye turned around and said ‘what did you jutht thay?’ or something to that effect… well, I guess Kevin Garnett, Kendrick Perkins or Ron Artest before he went buddhist would scare me. They are big, aggressive, and Ron is crazy or at least does such a good pretence of it that I believe it.

Got to Youtube & type in Blake Griffin gets flipped. WOW !!!!

@ Mike from Spain, my greatest fear is someone with a lazy eye asking me “What are you looking at?!” as their left eye drifts off into the back of their head. The irony and my incessant giggling would no doubt lead to a fight.

That look on the face of that fan during the “Malice @ The Palace” when RonRon jumped the scorers table was priceless. It was sheer terror because he knew death was near. It was EPIC!

Someone should send him a message about those ridiculous tattoos (Abe Lincoln on your neck?) and the piercing on his chest (What’s that about?) Who is afraid of DeShawn Stevenson? Really.

Meat Hook and the subsequent comments regarding his lisp/lazy eye admission had me laughing so hard.
So good. Reminds me of earlier slamonline, where impromptu joke/meme/hilarity sessions would break out in the comments sections.
Refreshing compared to the “i know it all-ness” dominating the threads nowadays.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

@ Nick Tha Quick, my friend and I were discussing that same topic a while back, only, we worded it “Which NBA player would you heckle from arm’s length at a club/bar/dark alley”?
