Dwight Howard Wants Shaq to ‘Sit Down and Get on With His Life’

Shaquille O’Neal picks on Dwight Howard whenever he gets a chance, and now that it’s his job to criticize players on national TV, the digs will obviously only get more pointed. Howard took exception to the latest criticism, and fired back. From the Orlando Sentinel (NBA.com has the full interview on video): “Magic center Dwight Howard, responding to Shaquille O’Neal saying that Andrew Bynum is the NBA’s best center, said after Friday’s shootaround that Shaq should ‘just sit down and get on with his life. What’s the point of talking trash?’ Howard said that Shaq, now a commentator for TNT and former Magic center, is just trying to get people ‘riled up.’ Shaq said earlier this week that he believes Bynum is the league’s ‘only true big man.’”

Best not to say anything Dwight. All you are doing is stoking the fire in the big guy.

  • Ken

im a huge fan of shaq…but hes out of line. Bynum isnt putting up numbers like dwight. Shaq should define the meaning of ‘true big man’ and see if dwight meets the criteria.

We all do Howard…sigh we all do.

  • Pic

    somebody’s catching feelings

  • bashmo

Nothing wrong with what Shaq said…merely stating his opinion, while not directly referring to Howard. I don’t agree, but he is an analyst…

  • Stickz

I’m a much bigger Shaq fan than Bynum fan, but Shaq’s “analysis” was pure hate. His opinion is deeply tainted by his dislike of Howard. His website is originalsuperman.com. That says it all there.

  • http://www.uhlife.com/basketball/profile.aspx?PlayerID=3356&SeasonDivisionID=30 nbk

Shaq does need to get on. He is not going to garner any respect as an analyst if he keeps up with all of his stupid ass Howard hate nonsense. It’s like when a toddler doesn’t like their new baby cousin, grow the f*ck up shaq.

  • T-Money

shaq on tnt has to be the biggest disappointment of the season. bring back cwebb! and gp!

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

This is pathetic Shaq. Believe it or not, Dwight Howard (of all people) is being the mature one. Anybody else already kinda tired of Shaq on TNT? Ernie, Charles, Kenny, and just about anybody else is better than O’Neal.

  • DerekG

    Amen Dwight!!!

  • bike

Shaq is the worst commentator I have ever witnessed. Acts like a dope, is immature, and never says anything of substance.

  • svendersloper

What is the point of talking trash? Is he serious?

  • stuyfiend

bynum is a better center than howard.. better post moves, better passer, better free throw shooter and he hardly gets the ball as much as howard.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

oh lord. anyone who thinks Bynum is better then Howard is either completely stupid. Has some sort of weird grudge against Howard. Or has absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Literally, no f*cking clue.

  • nick

am i the only one who thinks shaq tries to hard to make people laugh ?

  • AD

    that was me^^ slam

  • bull22

actually dwight has brought all this upon himself with the constant drama and whining about where he is going instead of leading the magic to greater heights. shaq has 4 rings and i hope he continues to batter dwight howard,,
    LOL.

  • http://dodgers.com Joey E.

and this is why he wont be a laker. he’ll be a mav or net

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

shaq has been kind off wack on tnt, lol. He say he got three degrees but we all know that dont mean you really smart.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Cosign bull…. Maybe Shaq is a little worried that Dwight will have a more successful career than him, and be remembered in the history books as being the man called “Superman”. Kinda the same as how Carr forfeited “Big dog” to Glenn Robinson. I don’t think it will happen, but just a thought.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Lets not debate Dwight/Bynum here. But if you have to…point to one concrete thing in terms of impact or production Bynum has done that Dwight hasn’t. If you say “better post moves,” then I will force you to argue that Al Jefferson is better than Dirk or K Love.

  • tomtom

@bossterry ok so shaq talks trash, but believe me Dwight will.never ever have a career close to shaq’s. I AK guessing you arnt old enough to see how dominant shaq was in his prime? An entirely different class.

  • tomtom

Oh and btw is shaq the only nba fan in the world not allowed to have an opinion now? The only reason Dwight cares is cos shaq is an all-time great.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

tomtom: Bynum will never have a career close to Dwight’s. We attack fellow commenters on here if they say moronic things such as “Westbrook is better than Rose.” Shaq shouldn’t be above the volleys.

  • Slim Tebow

Shaq is at a better place than most of yall hatin on him dude is ultra rich i wouldn’t give a fugg either i would live my dreams just like him doing what i want when i want and how i want if i had the chance he had sad yall hate like that

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Shaq AKA-Big Kevin Hart, needs to improve in how he comments on players and games. Its getting on my nerves calling Kobe the Black Mamba and trying to act nice about him on TV. Shaq needs to be on Nerd Night on NBATV, BRING BACK CWEBB, he had an actual opinion. BOOK IT!!

  • http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=guruwestcoastbasketballrankings2019 Basketball Guru

Dwight is obviously more valuable player between the two. He is also a much better defender & more durable.

Bynum is better offensively, but may not be healthy enough to ever be known as a dominating force. He does have two more rings than Howard.

Magic – make the trade for Bynum, Ebanks and a pick.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Shaq has every right to criticize Howard and Howard has every right to respond back.
Also, I doubt Shaq is worried about DHow having a more successful career (does anyone see DHow winning 3 straight Final MVPs?) but what he is worried about is how DHow stole his entire character/style yet he never mentions Shaq as his favorite player growing up. None likes to be plagiarized.

  • Allenp

Shaq is a petulant, whiny bully and has been for years. Period.

  • tomtom

Caboose, read what my shaw/dwight comparison was in response to and i think you may get me better, I didn’t just say it for no reason or to attack Dwight (whose game I love). But I’m not ao sure thay bynum will ‘never have a career like Dwight’ in real terms I think he can. He will never have the foot speed or energy but his O is a little more polished.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Fair enough tomtom, I think I misread your comment. The only reason Bynum won’t have a career like Dwight is the defense. Bynum lacks the sheer explosiveness to be a top notch big guy defender in the league. His game is more polished, but honestly, that doesn’t make Al Jefferson better than Blake Griffin.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Shaq’s superman was more self appointed. Dwight did it as a gimmick in a dunk contest and it stuck. The other similarities are not controllable.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

my only comment here is: TNT/NBA.com need to kill that “shaqin’ a fool” thing. it’s simply atrocious.

  • gubbins

Define ‘the only true big man’. If it means a man who is big & does an incredible job at both ends of the court & is an all star every year, then Howard is the only one. Bynum, Chandler, Cousins, Lopez – all pretty good at what they’re asked to do I’d say. The lack of objectivity in a lot of NBA broadcasting is really quite appalling.

  • Justin G.

nbk, you really have to stop with the “If you think such and such then you’re a complete idiot or don’t know anything about basketball”. That’s YOUR opinion. It makes you look like a pompous jackass. If someone says to you because of something you said it makes you an idiot or you don’t know anything about basketball, how would you take it? You defend yourself by saying you’re not actually calling them stupid but in essence you are. That being said, in the interviews and Inside the NBA’s that I’ve seen he’s always maintained that he thought Bynum was better OFFENSIVELY. Has more moves, better at the free throw line, etc. Not all around

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

I don’t care how it makes me look. It’s true, pompous jackass or not. Shaq is a child. And who cares if he’s maintained his opinion? He has always acted like an jealous toddler about Dwight Howard. And I didn’t call you stupid necessarily, you can have a grudge or be completely clueless. I’m leaning toward the latter.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

Beside both guys being freaks of nature athletically and having the superman title, never thought they were a fair comparison anyways. Dwight is more alonzo mourning than shaq.

  • http://Facebook.com/tronjohnson Chief

I don’t see what Howard can do other than get a back to the basket game and stop turning over the ball downlow to shut Shaq up. You’ve been in the league 8 years and you have no post game. Dwight, Lebron, and Jsmooth have all played AAU ball in the NBA their whole careers and it shows. You should have gone to college and fixed that problem.

  • http://www.slamonline.com megatron

shaq is annoying. I wish he would be replaced by Cwebb

  • JB

    take shaq off the air!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

@ Chief: So you’re telling me that it’s easier to learn new moves in college as opposed to the NBA, where the BEST coaches and trainers are available to you 24/7 and you’re getting PAID to work on your game and practice against the best players in the world? Are you serious?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Bynum is not better offensively than Dwight. How many ppg is Bynum averaging?

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Is anyone watching this? Cuz if you had a question before and eye’s now it’s pretty simple to see.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Can we stop arguing now? Has Dwight proven it yet?

  • shutup

Shaq is entitled to his opinion and Bynum/Howard debate is closer than people would like to admit, Howard still has to develop an offensive game that demands the ball, thats what Bynum has that Howard doesnt.

  • diy5f

Even if bynum was hakeem+ewing+shaq+kareem+any great center, it wouldnt matter in a comparison with howard. Hes injury prone & in a full season who know if he will be healthy for playoffs. Bynum avg about 55 gsames per season while dwight avg 80 games per season, so who would anyone with a functioning pick bynum

  • anthony y

Let’s be real.. the big hater as I call him now has seen Howard as a threat because he is a similar type player and COULD in the right situation win more rings. I don’t have an issue with what Howard said. The big hater walks around like he’s a made man in the mob and he’s untouchable. After all the hate he’s thrown at him, when he does win a chip shaq will take credit because his hating he will say was motivation smh..

  • Allenp

Bynum should be mad at Shaq for getting him that beatdown.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

21 and 23 for Dwight. 10 and 12 for Bynum in 24 minutes with 5 fouls. Now, 10 and 12 in 24 minutes is pretty good, but… The 5 fouls in that span of time tell you everything you need to know. Best center in the league was never a debate in three years and counting.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

for* three years. Also he played 26 minutes, not 24.
