Joel Anthony Can’t Believe He’s on the NBA All-Star Ballot Either

Improbably, Joel Anthony’s name appears on the All-Star Ballot this year, and he can’t believe it. Please make sure to vote him in, everyone. From the Palm Beach Post: “He’s one of four Heat players on the East All-Star ballot, along with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. ‘I didn’t think they were serious,’ Anthony said. Anthony’s not a serious candidate, of course, not with Orlando’s Dwight Howard on the ballot. Yet the panel of four media members needed 12 centers in the guard-heavy Eastern Conference, and chose one from all but three teams – Toronto (with Andrea Bargnani listed as center), Boston (reduced to a broken Jermaine O’Neal) and New Jersey (which just lost Brook Lopez for several weeks). Anthony, who has been labeled ‘The Warden’ by fans and has heard MVP chants while at the line, has a sense of humor about himself. He needs it, because the ribbing from teammates started right away. In truth, it is a bit of tribute, considering that even the Heat coaches expected Anthony to be the first cut when he arrived in 2007. ‘I don’t know what to say,’ Anthony said. ‘I definitely appreciate it, that they would take me into consideration.’”

Wait…they chose Joel over Bargniani? or did dude mean to write Bargniani is listed as a PF? Because im pretty sure Andrea dropped 30 last night and closed out the Kicks and im very sure Joel Anthony has almost exactly 0 basketball skills.

I think we should all vote for him..let’s make this happen people!!!

  • neaorin

Already voted for him. Would be fabulous if he made it.

LOL. That’s it, I’m definitely voting for him!

  • Ldub20

Seriously that would be the worst All Star in league history. He doesnt score, cant pass, cant dribble, what exactly would he bring to the All Star game? If we gave him a wig from carrot tops chest, that resembled that of what Chris Bosh’s hair looked like…he could be the double for the Predator. But aside from that…a 6’10 shot blocker and rebounder? DH and Chandler will be voted in. They can at least entertain. Im a Heat fan and I dont agree with this…lol neither does Joel.

If we can convince Yao to ask China to vote on him, he’ll get in!

for the love of god, everybody please vote for him multiple times…how hilarious would that be if he was an All-Star starter.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

How drunk was the group of people that put the ballot together?

  • andynorstrom

If Basketball fans have a sense of humour, Joel Anthony will start

most the people that vote for the all-star game are kids and foreigners. It’s why Allen Iverson would probably start if he was on the ballot.

since shaq and yao retired. we are at an alltime low in quality centers.
I like Dwight but he is no prime shaq certainly not on offense. and also with the extremely small centers in the league like Chuck Hayes and Dejuan Blair this will only get worse.
As a Heat fan i like Joel a lot but he is not an All Star.
And i have to say i voted for Javelee Mcgee in the east. I like that dude.

  • robb

You voted for JaVale McGee??? wow.

  • http://slamonline.com Jones

JaVale McGee is at least entertaining. You want entertaining in the all star game. Don’t you want more Josh Smiths in the ASG as opposed to more Tim Duncans? (no disrespect)

  • Rik Smits Mullet

    Robb
yeah he is fun as hell. clearly not the most talented. he will probably do something crazy. making a somersault three point shot block or something. That beats having to watch Dwight sending a block into the third row.
i like seeing some crazy stuff. last year i liked the rookie vs sophomore game a lot more then the actual all star game.

  • Lew alcindor

and then people wonder why the all-star game is turning wack…

  • ladygaga

Really would be funny to see him play. But we wanna beat the West, so we’ll go with that other guy…you know, Dwight Howard.

  • http://www.slamonline.com SMills

I voted for him! I love the guy. He obviously has no all-star level talent..but I’d like to think he could lead the league in heart and hustle lol

  • robb

@Jones and Rik OK I get that, but then the league would have to re classify what an All Star player is. Should they be the best players, the most popular or the most entertaining?

  • robb

Or maybe they should make an alternative All Entertainers game with those kind of players You know? Like JR Smith, John Wall, JaVale etc.

  • chingy

Andrea might be the second/third best Center in the league. Says more about the state of the center position than Andrea, though he’s looked good so far this year.

  • chingy

And by league, I meant in the East. My bad.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

    @robb
Iam all up for the all entertainer game but were not in charge. and we both know fans are voting there favorite players in even if the are a corps.
But the all star game is to predictable even without my crystal meth ball i can predict probably the starting line up except for the west center.
East pg rondo sg wade sf lebron pf amare c howard
west pg paul sg kobe sf durant pf griffin c ?
these are entertaining lineups but iam all for spicing things up.
thats why i voted for mcgee.

  • Bravo

I’m voting for torontos bg man Andrea barns. He will destroy ever center or power forward in the NBA! Don’t believe me just wait till my Toronto raptors face your teams and barns will put on a scoring display that Dwight or Blake or WHO EVER can never do. Vote BARNS!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

I have no respect for Andrea’s game…man up and play in the post fool.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

for the record, people said the same thing about Dirk.

  • gusisit

change of topic: i think that Andrew Bynum will be starter in the west if he doesn’t get traded or injured, i could see him having a good season plus there is no one else in the west conference

  • wow

Honestly, no one watches the allstar game. ANd if you think its important you really have nothing to do on a friday or saturday night…. Oh yeah let’s call up the guys so we can watch THE ALLSTAR GAME!!!!! wow vote Joel

  • 848439592

I still cant believe hes on an nba roster. (I’m voting for him though and u should 2)

  • Rhubarb Rhino

We must vote him in! I hope Miami do a viral marketing campaign.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

    At least Dirk gets boards…
