Kobe Bryant: Andrew Bynum ‘Has Ambition to Be Great’

The Lakers dynamic duo dominated the Houston Rockets last night — Bryant scored 37 points, Bynum notched the first 20/20 of his career — and Kobe was highly complimentary of young Andrew following the game. From the OC Register: “We all know the amount of talent that he has, and he’s really worked on it,’ Bryant said after Bynum’s 21-point, 22-rebound effort Tuesday night against Houston. ‘The thing that I like about him is that he has an engine inside of him and he wants to do well. He wants to dominate. He has ambition to be great. I think that’s the biggest positive about him aside from all of the physical attributes.’ For his part, Gasol smiled when Bynum snatched a rebound away from him late in the game. (Gasol had 14 points and eight rebounds.) ‘It’s not just tonight, but the way he’s played these three games,’ Gasol said. ‘He’s been really aggressive and really decisive and just pursuing every ball, pretty much. I’m glad to see him with this level of intensity and energy and desire, because it takes desire and will.’ Bynum’s averages through three games: 22.7 points, 17 rebounds, three blocks in 33 minutes. He still hasn’t gotten his conditioning where he wants it for all he is asked to do at both ends in Mike Brown’s systems, but Brown said if Bynum’s conditioning did get to a ‘great’ level, then: ‘Oh, my gosh …’”

He keeps this up, i’m glad Lakers didn’t trade him for Dwight.

  • JEr dawg

Those stats are pretty damn good. He’s looking really scary now. It’s good that he’s been getting serious about being aggressive on both ends of the court. Easy lob target and easy post target and defensive terror will really help everyone from Pau, Kobe, Fisher, and everyone down the bench. Keep it up, big man!

Kobe forgot to add, if his knees would be good.

As long as he stays healthy he can be a beast, just wish he would get away from the tough guy b.s. (cheap fouls. dirty fouls) If he was wearing any other jersey I would be a bigger fan. If he can just get back to being humble and killing em quietly…..

He could be an All-Star this season.. in fact I think he will be the starting center on the Western All-Stars.

@Max actually during the post game interview Kobe said Bynum’s biggest challenge is to stay healthy, he’s right, if he can do that I couldn’t care less about Dwight.

Dwight > than healthy Bynum 10 days a week.

  • J.C.

True enough Wayno, but probably not worth gutting your roster to get him if you already have Bynum.

Am i imagining this or every time there is a rumor that Bynum is going to get traded he comes out and starts playing well. Didn’t he have his breakout year when Kobe said he should have beeen traded for kidd?

Kobe forgot to add “And I will stifle that ambition with my ball hogging ways.”

Lakers will make a play for Howard. They would be foolish not to. Bynum hasnt been healthy. Sure these #’s are good, but Imagine DH and Kobe, and perhaphs Gasol. Plus DH would be the one of the faces (pending a 2nd trade for a better PG) when Kobe is gone. Bynum (IMO) doesnt have enough to “carry” a team. Very good/great piece…but I dont feel he is mature enough to go to in game time decisions like Shaq was, Kobe is, and other stars are.

@dfrance and You forgot to add this about yourself “I’m Jealous That Kobe is successful and I’m a Bum”

Dwight’s attitude can be the same or even worse than Pau’s when he can’t get the ball in the paint or he doesn’t get a call. I don’t see how Dwight is going to dominate everyone once he comes to LA. Is he unstoppable right now? Double-teaming Dwight is enough to get under his skin….Even with Pau and Bynum playing average, that’s better than 1 Dwight Howard. Would you rather roll 2 dice that either or both Pau or Bynum will have a monster game, or roll 1 die that Dwight will?

A trade does not make sense.

  • LA Huey

Bynum is still a carrot for Dwight.

My ambition to shoot is even greater.

Welllllllll hopefully the Wizard of Oz can help Andrew Bynum get some knees to go with that Ambition.

Perfect solution for Bynum’s injury issues…Iron Man suit. Discuss…

Hope he can stay healthy and keep playing well.

I noticed @JTaylor21 Gets too excited when he sees Kobe’s Name…

You Can’t be a Hater…….I Truly Believe You a Admirer of Kobe

I would take Bynum over Howard any day of the week if Bynums health was garunteed. He can actually play basketball without relying soley on his athleticism. Dwight Howard in my opinion is one of the most overated players in the NBA when he starts to lose a step, if he hasnt developed his game under the basketball he will be struggling immensly.
