Larry Brown Wants to Coach Again ‘Badly’

Larry Brown tells SLAM and CSN Chicago‘s Aggrey Sam that he’d love to get back into the coaching game: “On his own coaching future: ‘Well, I could have gone to Stanford three years ago and I didn’t want to take my kids out of school, and they live in Philly, but I want to coach again, badly. Now, I’ve been lucky because I’ve got so many guys that have played for me and coached with me that are coaches, in college and pro, that keep me involved. I’ve been to Villanova; I go there all the time. Mark Turgeon, who played for me and coached with me, is at Maryland. Bill Self coached with me; he’s at Kansas. John lets me come to Kentucky. Tad Boyle’s at Colorado. I’ve got so many guys that are in college and pro that have included me and kind of used me as a resource without me pushing myself on them. I don’t want to ever do that. I want to get back badly. I just don’t know. The direction the NBA’s going, it seems like they just want to get young ex-players and if you look around the league, there’s not a lot of older coaches anymore. ‘Pop’ [Gregg Popovich] and maybe [Rick] Adelman, but most of these guys are younger, so I don’t know if I fit that mold, but I still believe that I have something to offer and I was disappointed the way Charlotte ended. We go to the playoffs and then, 14 games later, I’m fired. They get rid of Raymond [Felton] and get rid of Tyson [Chandler], and I have Kwame Brown, Gerald Henderson and [Dominic] McGuire, all of those guys hurt, missing training camp. So, I’m disappointed the way that ended, but I’d love to get back if somebody gave me a chance. But I won’t politic for it. I hope it happens, but I don’t want to see somebody lose their job to get another job, so that’s always sensitive.’”

    NO. please NO.

He just wants to steal money again from owners. He doesn’t want to honor the contract again. Get paid to go away because he gets frustrated with players. Knicks, Bobcats, Pistons!
Sues team when he wants his full $$$ owed to
Him and thinks it’s okay to leave year 2 of a 4 year contract. Smh.

Great great coach, not worth the drama anymore though.

You guys don’t think he’s worth giving another shot? I actually think he would do well coaching the Hawks. He can possibly get them to play better as a team and play solid defense. ATL has so much talent, but just can’t put it together … Maybe he could be the missing link.

Hi Larry, how do you like the Washington D.C. area?

  • DerekG

Imagine Brown and Cousins in Sacramento or with the band of knuckleheads in Washington! Promises to be good entertainment! I’d watch lol!!

They need coaching help in the D-LEAGUE… start with the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

1-Great that our man Aggrey got this interview.
2-LB is easily better than 10 of the current coaches and arguably better than 25 of them.
    3-Well put, Laumol!

didn’t want to take his kids out of school??? must have had kids LAAAATE. You never hear about people talking about kids at his age.

I’d like for him to coach the Clippers just to see the sparks fly between him and Sterling.

  • Bill

He is a jerk and not the great coach you think he is. His Pistons were Rick Carlisle’s team. Let him sit and rot, I am tired of hearing about him breaking all of those contracts. He should of retired when the ABA went defunct.Larry Brown sucks

    Welcome to the nation’s capital.

hes a great coach and knows everything about bball a human being could know. the problem is just the new generation of players. nott all nba players, but a big number, especially star calliber players, act and talk like selfish, stubborn babies or to cut it short: just damn imature and stupid. they hurt themselves by not following authorities which would make them better. i think this is exactly the point where to find the reason why brown didnt click with the horrible knicks of the 20000s anymore. hed better be off to coach at a college
