Rockets Assign Marcus Morris to D-League

The Houston Rockets are sending first-round pick Marcus Morris to the team’s D-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Morris will play with the Vipers when they take the floor this weekend. Per the Houston Chronicle: “With Marcus Morris sliding out of Kevin McHale’s rotation and the Rockets not scheduled for another practice until next week, the team will send the rookie to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Tuesday. ‘Fortunately, we’re a team it’s very hard to come in as a rookie and play,’ Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said. ‘We like all our young players to go through a process before they get on the floor. Marcus is someone with very high level of talent and someone we feel will benefit greatly from playing and working on his game.’ With Patrick Patterson hurt, Morris had been working at power forward. Morey said that at RGV Morris will be able to play at small forward. ‘Our focus for Marcus is to work on his defense and his offense at the three,’ Morey said. ‘We feel he has ability to play both positions.’”

this is just getting weirder and weirder for these brothers. His brother who was supposedly be worse and drafted 5 to 10 spots below him got drafted before him and now he has to go to the D-Leauge kind of crazy.

Good point ab40. I recall the “worse” one got drafter higher

Yeah, wasn’t Marcus the better one?
Markieff has shown Phoenix he can play tho.

I’m man enough to say that I was wrong about this. I wanted the Suns to draft Marcus. Lol.

Its has been back on forth on the draftboards. Kieff is bigger. Marcus is def more tslented, but idk bout him playing the three, I think he’s best at the four. Tons of talent.

didnt this guy say his offense is like carmelo’s

@ Tarzan: Nah I’m not so sure about that. Marcus is great on the perimeter and I don’t think he has the size to play Power Forward. IMO the Rockets would be better off starting either Morris or Terrence Williams ahead of Chase Buddinger, who is a constant defensive liability (although I still like his game).

    Free TWill! :)

with all the talent in the world, why twill always at the end of the bench. his attitude cannot be that bad

  • Skip Bayless lol

ummm…I don’t think Melo was ever sent to D-League *scratches head then proceeds to side eye* I am not throwing salt but perfect your craft and be the best player you can be before running your trap simple

  • Lew alcindor

@skip: the article says why he was sent down to the d-league, because he’s a rookie.

Teddy, he’s 6 9 with good strength. I know he has perimeter skills, but I haven’t seen him play out there much, esp in the nba. Where did he say his game is like melos? He can shoot the 3 well, kieff too.

Cosign Tarzan Cooper about Marcus being better suited to play the 4. In today’s NBA, undersized stretch 4′s are almost becoming the norm. And I don’t think either Morris brother is really athletic enough to effectively guard good wing players. I think Kief is having more success early because he has a defined position and role. While Marcus doesn’t even know what position he will end up playing.
