Mark Cuban Can’t Believe Steve Nash is Still Playing in the NBA

According to Mark Cuban, 37-year old Steve Nash’s longevity is a miracle of modern science and dogged personal determination and discipline. Reports the Star-Telegram: “Back in the summer of 2004 when the Mavs were deciding whether to let Nash – then a free agent – go, or resign him, Cuban relied on his medical staff to help him make up his mind. ‘I’ll say it now, if you would have told me Steve would have been playing eight years later I would have bet any amount of money you’d be wrong,’ Cuban said. ‘But some guys do a great job of taking care of their bodies and taking advantage of the new technology that‘s come along. The thing about Steve is his discipline.’ That discipline led Nash to become the NBA’s Most Valuable Player in the first two seasons after the Mavs chose not to re-sign him. ‘I knew he was disciplined, but I thought he would fall apart before it mattered,’ Cuban said. ‘All the advice I got from everybody we had was that he was going to fall apart. He proved us wrong — and more power to him. I give him a lot of credit. He proved me definitely wrong.’”

A couple of years ago, didn’t Nash stop eating any sugar or refined sugar. I think I heard him say that’s what’s really helped him out the last couple of years to stay fit and on the court.

What kind of sorcery is this! lol

  • ShiQ Posted: Jan.24 at 11:59 am
Yeah he doesn’t eat refined sugar..no pasta and he’s practically gluten free..lean free range organic meats and no animal proteins ( he tweets about it a lot)…what you put in definitely determines the outcome of how your body will last. Good for STEVE NASH!

And you know what’s crazy? Despite the fact that he won two straight MVPs, the Mavs were still better off without him and I think Cuban made the right decision (although he didn’t spend the money wisely). Nash couldn’t guard anyone back then and he still can’t guard anybody. It’s no coincidence that the Mavs have consistently been one of the better defensive teams in the league since he left. Still, it’s amazing that he’s still playing at a high level.

ShlQ: how does he eat free range organic meats without getting any animal protein from that? There’d be animal protein in there, no? And without eating pasta, refined sugar, it sounds to me that he eats fairly ‘paleo’.

Nash’s secret is really no secret at all. By running around the court like a Chihuahua on espresso, he presents an illusion of playing really hard but actually he recieves very little contact, rarely goes hard to the rack, and plays no defense.

I follow almost the same diet, with the exception being that i use organic sugar instead of no sugar but at 24 i feel better than i did at 18. The lack of pesticide and preservatives does wonders for your overall health and stamina. I’m not in particularly good shape right now but i can still outrun guys who play basketball 3_4 times a week. Its all about diet!

It is all about diet but unfortunately in my experience, eating healthy is really expensive for the average working man. For a dude like Nash that has a chef, or can spend $500 a month on groceries or both, its relatively easy… if you’re disciplined.

I’d pick pasta over a career in the NBA anyday

The Suns medical staff is the best in the NBA. Look at Steve and Grant Hill. They found the fountain of youth.

It takes a big man to admit he was wrong. Kudos to Mark Cuban for having the guts, the honesty, and integrity to do so. How many championships would Dallas have won IF they had re-signed him, and paid him what he was worth? Way to go Steve!! A true Iron Man in your sport!!

cosign dfrance, eating organic is expensive.

  • rainman10 Posted: Jan.24 at 5:10 pm
can Cuban believe that Kidd is still in the NBA?

  • T-Money Posted: Jan.24 at 5:48 pm
Chris: easier to do after the ring. I remember him as beng mire defiant in that subject in the past.

  • Dacre Posted: Jan.24 at 7:32 pm
Steve Nash also stays away from standard ‘cow’ milk. The enzyme/s in cows milk is practically the hardest thing for the human body to break down…(along with corn maize). ALMOND MILK is what Steve Nash drinks for those flowing long locks… and at $4.00 a litre you need a max contract to keep up.

My wife still can’t believe Steve is playing either….

  • Cameron Posted: Jan.24 at 8:32 pm
Rainman…I think a lot of people can’t believe Kidd’s in the nba still either. Dude needs to just retire

Feels like I’m at a Whole Food seminar, which isn’t a bad thing

  • burnt_chicken Posted: Jan.25 at 1:20 am
bike: you should probably watch Nash play at some point. It’s hard to fake a HOF career.

  • Justin G. Posted: Jan.25 at 2:54 am
    ^^^^Exactly

pasta and chicken thickshakes….with almond milk.

  • jimmer Posted: Jan.25 at 8:03 am
@bike – Nash recieves no contact and rarely goes hard to the rack!?!! I’ve seen Nash get his nose broken 3 times, and that’s just in games i’ve watched, who knows how many more times it’s happened. I’ve even seen him snap it back in to place before taking freethrows. He takes a lot of contact, a lot of punishment, and just gets on with it. If this guys leg was broke he wouldn’t take a wheelchair. Cosign burnt chicken and Justin G. If your opinion of Nash is that low, either you have never seen him play, you have never played basketball in your life, or you are very, very bad at it. Or you play the 5.

  • bashmo Posted: Jan.25 at 8:47 am
One of the best point guards to ever lace em up…

  • Dacre Posted: Jan.29 at 10:19 pm
    100% agreement with jimmer. 100. %.
If you don’t respect the way Nash plays and succeeds on the court you don’t know basketball. period.
