Report: Philadelphia Sixers Interested in Amar’e Stoudemire

According to CSN Philly, the Sixers recently called the Knicks about the availability of their star forward: “These days [Amar'e] Stoudemire and the Knicks are struggling to a degree that the inevitable trade chatter is beginning to heat up. According to a league source, the Sixers have inquired about Stoudemire, though it was categorized as ‘due diligence.’ Nothing is said to be imminent or even in the early stages other than just talk, the source said. Nevertheless, in past seasons the Sixers were reportedly discussing trade scenarios with the Phoenix Suns in order to acquire Stoudemire. Whether or not the Sixers can afford Stoudemire, of course, is an issue too. Stoudemire is the ninth-highest paid player in the NBA after signing a five-year, $100 million contract before the 2010-11 season. He earns $18.2 million this season, $19.9 million next season and approximately $45 million between 2013 and 2015.”

Not happening, philly would be stupid.
    Shout out to elton brand

Trading Amare won’t resolve ALL the mess in NY. Melo really screwed them.

The Knicks might be desperate enough to trade Amare for Iggy + Spencer Hawes. Phily might actually get a little respect if a trade like that happened instead of being perennially slept on.

Hell no! I don’t want Amar’e anywhere near this team. He’s the anti Doug Collins on D, and this is a very good defensive team. He’s seemingly on the downswing of his career. For evidence check out Haberstroh’s article on him on ESPN. Good analysis. What the Sixers need, for this season, is another viable big off the bench. Someone that can come in, play solid D, grab boards, and give 10 mins. I’ll take a semi-washed up version of PJ Brown.

Would the Sixers be worth a damn if they traded Iggy away?

  • sam j

Trade melo for deron. Knocks get an elite .pg, nets get a Brooklyn raised superstar to build around

    @sam j keep dreaming

Obviously we need a marquee player in order to become a legit squad but I don’t see how this really helps the Sixers.

  • Canesta

As a true Sixers fan, please no!!!! He would destroy our chemistry.

  • Fat Lever

As much as I loathe Iggy’s offensive game, he’s invaluable on D. Especially in a conference with D Wade, Melo, Lebron, JJ, Pierce, and Granger.

I think I talked about Nash being traded to Phili and a few SLAM commentators telling me “NO WAY PHILI WOULD BE INTERESTED IN AN ALL-OFFENSE NO DEFENSE-PLAYER LIKE NASH!”

  • http://fjskdlf.com Jukai

    That being said, dumb trade.

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

^co-sign most of the above, philly is clicking and have great chemistry right now, this move would be stupid

It was more about how Phili already has a PG. They wouldnt look to replace him with the exact opposite type of player. Which is still true.

  • crooklyn

Don’t trade anybody, don’t jump ship. Get a real pg. Peter vescey was thinking just like me when he wrote that article saying the knicks should persue jamal tinsley, An experienced, confident point guard from BKLYN baby!!!!!! They passed up on too many players for all the wrong reasons in the past.

Ol’ hipster glasses can stay in New York and not get any rebounds there, thanks.

  • robb

this must be a dumb rumor, no way the Sixers would want Amare. They are clicking and playing good basketball right now.

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

As a Knicks fan, i’d trade Amare for Iggy in a second. I love Amare for the player he is and for being the first dude to take on the Knicks when they were dead in the water, but son looks like he gave up team leadership to Melo and isn’t interested in reestablishing himself as a primary scorer. He wants his own team, so let him have Philly.

  • Fat Lever

O, no thanks. The Sixers will be ET’s and Jrue’s team in a year or so.

  • LA Huey

The Sixers have bad luck when it comes to trades/acquisitions of PFs with All-Star credentials. Philly should stand pat. They have a good young team that will only get better. I’m sure a go-to-guy will emerge from their crop of guards.

  • scomp

noooooo…amare will destroy the sixers. this team is clicking…stand pat and wait for free agency. sign a vet big. if the sixers trade for amare i might do something very stupid.

  • SikhWitIt

Amare is incredibly overrated. Dude cannot board and is not the big man any team should be trying to build around.

  • Justin G.

cosign everybody else. This is such a dumb idea and Amare is VERY overrated. Melo to Jersey for Williams makes sense for both clubs but I just don’t see the Knicks pulling the trigger on that one
