Steve Nash Reminds Doc Rivers of Muhammad Ali

Wait, what?! Here’s Doc Rivers comparing Steve Nash to the legendary boxer. From the Boston Herald: “Steve Nash has been so good for so long that he nearly defies description. But Doc Rivers provided an interesting comparison for the two-time MVP, who will be at the Garden [tonight] with the Suns. ‘With Nash, you don’t know what he is. You don’t know if he’s score-first, you don’t know if he’s pass-first,’ Rivers said. ‘He reminds me of (Muhammad) Ali. Where every fight (you ask), is he going to do the rope-a-dope, is he dancing – you don’t know what he’s doing. George Foreman said, ‘Mentally, the guy just beat me before the game starts. He has game plans.’ That’s what Nash is. Honestly, as a staff we had a debate today, which one would rather have him: scoring or passing. And it was split. You don’t know which one you’d rather have him do. I know passing if the other guys are missing shots. I know scoring means he’s probably going to score so I would guess I’d have him do the other one. I’m not sure.’”

Too bad Rondo probably won’t be playing. I was looking forward to that matchup

With the scrubs he’s been playing with since amare left you want him passing. Childress + warrick + frye = < Amare

If you see Ali as a short, white guy, who runs around on the court like a Chihuahua on espresso–well, yeah they are alike.

Nash is nice, but the Champ?! Come on Doc. Too bad we won’t see any of this tonight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f04pZ2fWtP8 Knick fans, not Amare’s awesome help on defense…

Nash is more like Nelson Mandela – locked in a prison, and can leave at anytime, but on principle and morals refuses to leave his cell.

@clyde says – stfu. nash is a winner. boxing is sooo different to basketball. he cant win a chip on his own and whenever he failed to win a chip it was hardly ever his own fault. like shaq said- winning a chip also requieres alot of luck and the right people around you. n if you look at his one on one matchups, you hardly ever see another player getting the best of him.
ali was maybe a great person in sports but hardly the best boxer of all time. the reason why he got this nickname “greatest of all time” is more about his charisma.
for example – a young mike tyson wouldve knocked him out. not to speak of lennox lewis, george foreman or evander holyfield. but sure, ali was an interesting personality and an over average heavy weight champion for sure.
this comparison is ok, rivers just related to an athlete who is able to keep his level of play extra ordinary long

how does Dan not realize Ali fought and beat Foreman in the Rumble in the Jungle? Part of me hopes Dan is just naive. The other part of me believes Dan has hours of footage at his fingertips to refute his ignorance.
