2012 NBA All-Star Reserves Announced

Tonight, the NBA All-Star reserves were announced, and the League’s website has the full list. (Happy, unhappy with the selections?): “Perennial All-Stars Paul Pierce and Dirk Nowitzki have been chosen as All-Stars for the 10th and 11th time, respectively, and headline the list of 14 players that have been selected by the coaches as reserves for the 2012 NBA All-Star Game, the NBA announced today … Joining Pierce as reserves on the East squad are Chris Bosh, Luol Deng, Roy Hibbert, Andre Iguodala, Joe Johnson, and Deron Williams.

Nowitzki, whose 11 selections are consecutive, is joined on the West team by reserves LaMarcus Aldridge, Marc Gasol, Kevin Love, Steve Nash, Tony Parker, and Russell Westbrook.”

Happy for Tony Parker, Aldridge and Nash. not sure about Hibbert. I dont think Dirk deserved this but I can understand why he made it. Congrats to Westbrook too

  • ripslam

Roy Hibbert over Rajon Rondo? What a joke.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Marc over Pau? Interesting. Monta should’ve made it over Dirk and Josh Smith over Luol Deng.

  • shutup

I think they had to pick reserve centers that would explain Gasol and Hibbert

  • poompa

    rondo for mvp!

  • ken foti

It’s a travesty Varajeo didnt get selected,he is playing at an All-Star level this season…

  • Ken

I like Dirk, but he didn’t deserve it this year. Not even close. NYT had a breakdown of it which laid it out pretty clearly.

I can’t believe that Deron Williams was selected. I don’t think you should make it on talent and past achievements alone. You would hope that one would also be playing inspiring ball right now. I would much rather have seen Brandon Jennings or Kyrie Irving in that spot.

I guess Williams himself has been snubbed in the past, so things have evens out for him. It’s also hard to believe that with the current talent boom that we are in the midst of, that Roy Hibbert can make an All-Star team. I can’t stand watching the Pacers play, but I am pretty sure that Carlos Boozer, KG (defense), Tyson Chandler (defense), or even an Andre Bargani,in that spot

  • Havana

    sorry for the spelling

  • ripslam

^Bosh could’ve been selected as a center, and one of the guards as a wild card pick. Rondo is averaging 13 and 10 as the best player on the Celtics. Come on. Happy for P-Squared and Iguodala though.

Deng has been injured for a large part of the season, that was a surprise. Also, realistically, Dirk did not deserve his spot this year. I understand, respect for the reigning Finals MVP, blah blah blah, but his production has fallen off hard this season.

  • Lz – Cphfinest3

Biggest snub, is easily Josh Smith. Should be picked before all of Luol Deng, Roy Hibbert, Andre Iguodala, Joe Johnson, and maybe Deron Williams.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Dirk, Nash, MGasol and DWill have no business being on the team.

I’ll admit I dislike Rondo, but leaving him out is not right..Luol Deng 100% deserves it in my eyes, but Dirkules does not, as great as he is, he hasn’t shown it this season.

  • AD

dwill made it bcuz he deserved it @havanna… if he would of played accordind to his pat achievements.

    he would be starting

  • http://slamonline.com ClydeTheGlide

WOW… Way to snub Kyle Lowry, Rudy Gay and Josh Smith.

And no love for the Nuggets either (a winning team)? I know Gallinari is injured but Ty Lawson is as equally deserving.

  • ripslam

The Nets are 8-19. They’re barely better than they were pre-trade last year. Deron had a slow start to the season and only started producing up to his usual standards about a week ago. SMH

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

No one on an 8-19 team “deserves” anything.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

    *screaming from bandwagon*
    WHERE IS LINSANITY???

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

    seriously though, Hibbert?

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

I’d probably take Jennings over Deron at this point…and Hibbert gets the award for the Dale Davis/Tyrone Hill All-Star.

  • Bt

Anyone who says Nash doesn’t deserve his spot is kidding themselves. He’s leading the league in assists, having a borderline 50/40/90 season and if the suns were in the east they would be the 8th seed. (1-12 in the west would be in the playoffs in the east) Oh and the third scoring option on the team is jarred Dudley.

  • AD

roy hibbert should of made it last year….. brandon jenning is too inconsistent. but idk why steve nash is there monta ellis has been ballin or kyle lowry at least

  • Willlkh

Jennings. Over deron. Josh smith over deng (injuries). Nba coach are losers considering they are del negro, flip Saunders,

  • robb

I really wanted to see Jennings selected. This year he’s been particularly consistent, more than Deron at least.

  • 23

Nash def deserves it. But if his name swapped with lowry I would be ok with that. But this guy nash puts up unreal numbers for his age and is all heart. He deserves every accolade he recieves.

  • FM

Andy Varejao over Roy Hibbert every day all day. He’s been great this year for the cavs.

  • Lan

I like Deron but he shouldn’t be on this All Star team. Not with such a poor team record. Otherwise, got no complaints.

  • Red

Deng made it! You have to be crazy to think Marc didn’t deserve it. As far as Hibbert goes it should be Boozer instead I think. This is a crazy, goofy year and the line-up is really weird as hell.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Nash deserves it, but Kyle Lowry was seriously robbed. I think he deserves to be in ahead of Marc Gasol. The Grizzlies are barely staying afloat at .500. His 15 and 10 are nice, but no All-Stars from Houston? Damn…

  • Da-Meat-Hook

I live in Toronto. If I hear 1 more person say that Andrea Bargnani should be an All-Star, I will begin to bleed profusely from my ears . . .

  • AdamD

Josh Smith is arguably more important than Joe Johnson, i think his is the third year in a row where he has had a legitimate case. It’s not just the fact that he is playing great, line-up of Josh, Lebron, Rose, Howard and Wade would be a dunk-a-thon.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

    SMOOVE GOT SNUBBED.

  • Red

Did anyone hear Shaq say Rondo is the best PG in the L? Lmaoo Barkley was like is Rose dead?

  • http://bulls.com airs

    Congrats Lieutenant Deng!!

  • manu

Disgusted that josh smith and Rudy gay aren’t all stars

  • random

JOSH SMITH, BRANDON JENNINGS SHOULD BE ON THERE

  • Red

LMAO BRANDON JENNINGS dude you’re so hilarious.

  • DFRANK

    WHERE’S MONTA ELLIS?!

  • jpm34

Josh Smith deserved it more than Joe Johnson. Smoove is the matchup nightmare. Rondo, Monta,n Rudy have cases too. R.i.p. 2 KG n Timmy Duncan’s all-star streaks. Wont quite feel right without them.

  • Shifty

Great for PP34. He deserves it. Rondo should of been in ahead of deron and Jennings deserved a spot. Before he got injured deng was playing great so I’m not to angst about him win picked. Marc gasol is understated I think he deserves a spot. Kg should of been in as well for Roy hibbert. Dirk doesn’t deserve to be there and can’t believe they have three point guards on te wests team. Yeah def a weird line up. Unsure about joe Johnson. I would rather have josh smith. Only way monta Ellis is gettin to te all star team is I he is playing for a team in the east. Don’t know why he always gets snubbed like I know golden states records army that great but jeez hes playing pretty good.

  • Shifty

    Sorry for spelling. iphone

  • jpm34

Roy Hibbert over Danny Granger REALLY??????

  • jpm34

Brandon Jennings will get there someday, but right now he isnt consistant enough yet.

  • jpm34

I know Gallinari is hurt but he shoulda got honorable mention or somethin. The Nuggets are playin really well.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Chubachuchi

Damn, smith is snubbed for the second time, al horfords first all-star appearance should of been J-smooves first and now he’s being over-looked by JJ. Dirk said with his own mouth that he didn’t deserve to be a all-star, so why the hell did the coaches vote for him?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

^Slam still aint fixed this sh*t, smh

  • seaniiiiiiiiiiiiiii

who ever said dwill shouldnt be an all star probably dont no anything about him he has nooooooo help and he has 8 wins by himself and if he had brook lopez they would be 12 to 14 wins. this guy as the same vision as nash rondo and he shoots better than every elite guard other than nash or cp3 yes that means he shoots better than rose….

  • Bt

As for the Nash Lowry argument 14pts 13assts (7-7 fg) for nash today, 14pts 1ast (5-13 fg) fo Lowry.

  • http://slamonline house

You are KIDDING yourself if you think J.Smith is more deserving of an ALL star vote than Luol Deng. I am very glad Deng got in. However I think J. Smith has been outplaying He Of The Undeserving Contract aka Mr Joe Johnson. However D. Will is a different story, sending the wrong message if someone with a losing record, (of that magnitude) gets in. He is an awesome player but it just seems that a lot of these types of allstar votes are given on the basis of individual performance instead of over-all team performance. Its a shame that the season has been so brutal because a number of people who have been playing really well haven’t been selected because of injury, i.e, Gallinari etc. Its a kinda of f*cked up lineup really.

  • Havana

Whoever made the point about NBA coaches being losers. I wonder when the actual voting for the All-Star reserves actually happens. Did it happen just over the last few days. If not what happens with coaches (a la Saunders) who have been fired midway through the season, yet were able to still lodge a vote.

Just to clarify, I think Deron is the best player of the aforementioned 3, and one of my favorite players in the league. However I do not think that someone who is biding their time to potentially leave as a free agent and playing pretty uninspiring ball, should get in over two hungrier players that have played all out. When I think of this season I won’t remember it as one of Deron’s finer seasons, however I will remember it as the season that Brandon stepped it up a notch and that Kyrie had a historically impressive Rookie season
