2012 NBA All-Star Reserves Announced


Tonight, the NBA All-Star reserves were announced, and the League’s website has the full list. (Happy, unhappy with the selections?): “Perennial All-Stars Paul Pierce and Dirk Nowitzki have been chosen as All-Stars for the 10th and 11th time, respectively, and headline the list of 14 players that have been selected by the coaches as reserves for the 2012 NBA All-Star Game, the NBA announced today … Joining Pierce as reserves on the East squad are Chris Bosh, Luol Deng, Roy Hibbert, Andre Iguodala, Joe Johnson, and Deron Williams.

Nowitzki, whose 11 selections are consecutive, is joined on the West team by reserves LaMarcus Aldridge, Marc Gasol, Kevin Love, Steve Nash, Tony Parker, and Russell Westbrook.”

    So happy to see Steve Nash, Dirk doesn’t deserve it, I think Kyle Lowry should have a spot.

    As big of a fan as I am, kinda shocked Nash made it. I think he made it on the “damn, this guy is 38-years-old?” factor and not the “he is helping his team and really deserving it factor.”
    Josh Smith god robbed hardcore. I feel for that dude. He maybe deserved it over JJ. Josh is doing 15.6/8.9/3.2 with 1.5 and 2.0 on 47%. Joe Johnson is dropping 18.6/4.0/3.7/0.8/0.3 on 43%. Yeah, gimme J Smooth.
    Dirk definitely robbed someone of a deserving spot. Lowry, looking at you.
    Marc Gasol deserves it as much as Rudy Gay. It was a judgement call and I guess the west needed a center. Weird that the hairier Gasol brother made it though.
    Kinda with Gallinari got an all-star nod. So what if he’s injured, vote him in to honor him and then pick someone else.

    its an ALL STAR GAME……. not a SUPERSTAR GAME…… Is Brandon Jennings an all star. NO! Is Josh smith an allstar No! All stars who did not make it did not play uo to par, its that simple. If it was about winning ,Tim Duncan would be in case closed ppl I do agree that dirk shouldnt have been in but honestly, theres no other pf in the west to replace him. Ppl like seeing one foot fade aways is the way the coaches look at it. Plus the allstar game has been whack for at least a decade. The last competitive one was the game with mj in int.. All they do is dunk and shoot open shots..

    East: Deng congrats despite the late injury, Paul Pierce? Not sure about that one, glad to see Igudala on there so Philly can say someone else beside Allen Iverson make team, Roy Hibbert is OK, D-Will is their only source of offense. Snubs: Brandon Jennings he’ll be in this game next year, David West improved Indiana this year, Josh Smith is very underrated now. Put him in. West: Dirk shouldn’t be there, Aldrige made it FINALLY!!! Snubs: Rudy Gay has had a nice recovery from his injury last year, Gallinari will be an all-star if Denver continues winning and Kyle Lowery should get some love too. Looking forward to the All Star game.

    Duncan over Dirk, Josh Smith over Joe Johnson, my only disagreements. All the rest are deserving although i would not stress that point for D.Will this year. Lets hope it’s a good exhibition for BBall!!!!!!!

    I agree with what one of the commentators said during the OKC game James Harden should have gotten one of those spots he is ranked #1 in almost every major stat category for coming off the bench and due can fill it up, and OKC has the best record in the league, just saying

    Nash deserves his spot for sure. Pierce, DWill, and especially Nowtizki do not. Much respect for Nowitzki but he even said in an interview (posted here on SLAM I believe) that he did not deserve to be there. I’m sure he’d rather not play and take the extra rest but maybe he’ll play a few minutes and sit the rest. I’d rather he gave up the spot to someone a little more deserving but that doesn’t happen. Jennings was definitely robbed too

    Don’t like this… Rondo and Smith are the obvious snubs and though Hibbert is having a decent season for a decent team, there’s not way he’s an all-star, there can be made an argument that he’s not even the second best player on the Pacers, at least not better than Rondo or Smith.. I don’t have that many problems with the west squad. Glad to see Nash and Parker on there… Don’t think Nowitzki should have made it, although I can kind of see why. I previously said I’d take Ellis… somehow I completely forgot about Lowry.

    The All-Snub Team:
    G-Rondo/Ellis/Irving
    G-Jennings/Lowry
    F-Smith/Gay/Granger
    F-P.Gasol/Stoudemire
    C-Duncan/Jefferson

    OK, not all of these are All-Star worthy, but they’re the next 12, and serious cases could be made for Rondo and Smith (who should be in), Jennings, Ellis, Irving, Lowry, P.Gasol (It’s not like he’s been bad, still putt’n up 17-10 with 3 ast and good percentages – all as the 3rd option), Duncan and Gay… Granger, Stoudemire and Jefferson would be strethces, but that could certainly be said about Hibbert as well.

    If anything Josh Smith should be there with Joe Johnson..oh, Joe is deserving of a spot regardless of what some may think IMO…They would not be in the thick of the eastern conference without him.

    For those hating on Deng – he’s the second best player on the best team in the NBA right now. His numbers rack up with Smith and any/all other potential candidates at 16/7 and he’s one of the top SF defender in the league right now. He sat out some games with the wrist, but so have so many others. He’s deserving, no doubt. DWill? Not sure about that one. His team is just too terrible. If he makes it on his numbers, K Love should have made it last year. Numbers on a pi$$-poor team don’t mean anything.

    To me the biggest snub is Brandon Jennings. He deserves it with the way he’s been leading his team and putting up nice numbers. Milwaukee is in the playoff race too. I would have taken him over Dwill and Jsmith over PP.
    On the west squad, i’m sorry but 15 good games makes you a more worthy all star than the last finals MVP Dirk aka Al Jefferson, Paul Milsap. I’m ok with the west squad, maybe Kyle Lowry would have been a better choice than Nash but it’s not that obvious to me.L

    I know Nash, Westbrook etc are better players right now than Rubio, but purely for entertainment purposes it would of been good if Rubio made the roster. Some of his passes during games are sick, so I think with his style of play he could thrive in a game like the all star game. Maybe in a few years, if he keeps going in the right direction, he will be in there throwing some sweet dimes.

    Tow of the most underrated players in the league Luol Deng the best defensive 3 in the league not to me consistent and dependable for multiple seasons like a Well tuned machine. And LaMarcus Aldridge.

    Definitely can’t understand how Pau/Lowry didn’t make the team instead of Dirk/Marc. Definitely not.

    Can’t warp my head around how Deng/Hibbert made the team instead of JSmooth/Rondo.

    Seriously, WTF is the coaching staff doing?! Nash, DWill are arguable cases but how in hell does Hibbert deserve to be an All-Star???!?!? And Deng sat out 1/4th of the effing season!! 1/4th!!

    MGasol doesn’t deserve his spot? SERIOUSLY!? Name another Center in the West that has played better than MGasol then we’ll talk.

    Hibbert made the team because they need a Center. If Horford was playing or Bogut, they would have made it instead of Hibbert. As far as I remember, JSmith is no Center.

    And I do agree that Rondo should have been picked instead of DWill.. JSmooth over J. Johnson. PMillsap or AJefferson over Dirk.

    Dirk and Luol Deng shouldn’t be in this ASG. Josh Smith was snubbed. Monta Ellis was snubbed. Rudy Gay was snubbed. Brandon Jennings was snubbed. Rajon Rondo was snubbed. The coaches had to be smokin something when they made these picks! LOL!

    deron williams is averaging 20 points a game as well as 8 assists with a player efficiency rating of 20 he deserves to be in this game now dirk is a different story, al jefferson or paul milsap should have made it instead of dirk, roy hibbert had to make it because they needed another big man so they went with hibbert i think because the pacers have a better record than the raptors, and the cavs.

    Listen everybody you don’t deserve to be an all-star if your the best player on a bad team. Roy Hibbert and Iggy deserve to be all-stars as for Brandon Jennings, Monta Ellis, and my favorite Rudy Gay don’t deserve it.

    I don’t have a problem with All-Stars from bad or mediocre teams if the player is clearly superior to any other choice. Outside of Rose and Wade no other guard in the East is on Deron’s level as a player. Period.

    My only gripe is Joe Johnson. Don’t think he deserves it over his own teammate.
    But do the reserves have to be certain positions? Wouldn’t want Deng or Iggy taken off there either.
    I’m not surprised some people have a problem with Deng making it.
    So many people think Derrick Rose does everything for the Bulls, little do they know Thibs doesn’t get nervous when he takes out Rose for a few minutes and subs in another PG but he starts hyperventilating when Deng isn’t on the court.
    Again, there’s a reason he plays him 40 minutes plus a game.
    And there’s a reason why the Bulls went 4-3 without him.
    Whatever though, y’all keep thinking he’s a “Jammer Nelson/Mo Williams not really deserving but hes the second best player on the best team in the East” pick.

    @ Bravo, Amir Johnson is playing C for the Raps this year. Which makes Bargs a PF (if you wanna call him that). Bosh, Deng, Pierce, which one of these forwards (and that’s not even mentioning Josh Smith, Amare, Mello, Granger and even KG) should have been left out in order to free up room for Bargs???
