2012 NBA All-Star Game Starters Announced

by Marcel Mutoni @marcel_mutoni

Many of the usual suspects will headline this year’s NBA All-Star game in Orlando.

Though the game will take place in Florida, with the Dwight Howard drama gloomily and awkwardly hanging over the festivities, there will be a heavy L.A. presence on the court.

The NBA has details on the starting lineups for the mid-season showcase:

Joining Howard in the Eastern Conference starting lineup at the forward position are the Miami Heat’s LeBron James (1,360,680), the 2006 and 2008 All-Star Game MVP, and the New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony (1,041,290). The starters for the East at guard are the Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose (1,514,723) and the Heat’s Dwyane Wade (1,334,223), the 2010 All-Star Game MVP.

[Kobe] Bryant, who joins Hall of Famer Bob Pettit (1956, 1958, 1959 and 1962) as the only four-time All-Star Game MVPs in NBA history, is joined in the Western Conference starting backcourt by the Los Angeles Clippers’ Chris Paul (1,138,743). The Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant (1,345,566) and the Clippers’ Blake Griffin (876,451), making his first All-Star Game start, are the starting forwards. The Lakers’ Andrew Bynum, a first-time All-Star, gets the nod at center (1,051,945). This marks the first time since 1997 (Houston’s Hakeem Olajuwon and Charles Barkley, and Seattle’s Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton) that two pair of teammates have been voted to start for one conference.

We should know who the reserves are soon enough, and teams with the two best records in each conference by February 15th will send their coaches to the big game.

Dwight Howard led all players in fan voting (1,600,390), followed by Kobe Bryant (1,555,479). The NBA All-Star Game takes place on February 26th.

Ok ill use this platform to say this: Blakes dunk on Perkins was a dunk. Not a layup. If you think like it was a layup, youve never dunked in your life.

  • http://www.thesmashbrothas.com zen garden

who ever voted for melo is dumbin

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHoliday

I definitely posted an article on my blog yesterday with the all star starters and I do NOT agree with Melo being a starter. I think Chris Bosh deserved that spot this year. Melo has been in and out of the lineup and the Knicks SUCK (and I’m from New York). Melo is my man, but his name got him a starting spot this year!

  • Fred

@ zen garden… Melo season stats: 23.8 PPG – 6.5 RPG – 4.3 APG. Name me a better forward in the East except of LeBron.

  • Justin G.

Agreed that Melo shouldn’t be starting. Not surprising either that 8 of these 10 will be on the final team for the Olympics.

  • Paul H

Melo Is shooting a career worst from the field, he’s supposed to be the leader and Saviour of a team that has now lost 8 of their last 10 and he still couldn’t stop a guy on defense If his life depended on It. I hate the heat but there is just no way he should be In over Chris Bosh.

  • Justin G.

There you go Fred. Paul H just did. ;-)

  • tomtom

I have been one of Bosh’s biggest critics but yup, he is playing better than Melo this year and his team is doing better.

  • MGS928

@ KHoliday, are you Chris Bosh?

  • LA Huey

Bosh over Melo. Bosh plays solid defense, team basketball, and his team is winning. Along with LeBron, kept the Heat running with Wade sidelined. Melo is a no-defense, ball stopper on a crappy team, in a crappy division, in the lesser conference in the league. The Knicks are only half a game ahead of the Nets in the standings. Melo is an All-Star RESERVE.

  • http://slamonline.com. datkid

cosign Paul H… get melo all the way the F*ck outta this all-star game

  • jazmin

melo SHOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN THAT SPOT ! THEY DO NOT GIVE CHRIS BOSH THE CREDIT HE DESERVES ! HE SHOULD DEFINATELY BE STARTING IN THE ALL STAR GAME !

  • LP

The all-star starters are non-debatable, its supposed to be fan voting. Melo is who the fans want to see. The reserves will be the debate.

  • http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=pawtucketymca Gametimeweezy

Oh gawd another bash on Melo campaign… a lot of these threads are just as predictable as who gets voted to start the all-star game. Bosh does deserve it though. But then again so does Danny Granger.

  • LA Huey

The All-Star reserves are non-debatable, its supposed to be coaches voting. See what I did there? Everything can be debated.

  • http://yahoo.com HEFFALUMPH

    wtf!, where’s scalabrine!

  • ripslam

Just gonna say that this year’s All-Star unis are terribad. Lord, from the tacky lettering/number font to the weird bubbly texture, just awful.

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHoliday

MGS928, Are you Melo? Your name seems to be a play on Madison Square Garden and the numbers could represent the Knicks record! Hmmmmmm….

Btw, I’m not the only one that thinks Melo shouldnt be starting.

  • http://nba.com GP23

I’m just waiting for next week’s announcement of the all-star reserves, and then I will argue…

  • LP

Michael Jordan is the greatest player ever. THIS isn’t debatable. See what I did there?

  • MeloMan15

seems like every post concerning the Knicks becomes to a hate on Melo spree. No worries, Melo will turn it around… and then you bandwagon fans will be on him

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

Some think cucumbers taste better pickled…see what I did there? Cuz I sure don’t

  • bashmo

CP THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 5TH ALL STAR SELECTION YEAH BOY

  • shawnkemp4prez

Melo getting the All-Star start is like Iverson a few years ago…completely undeserved, but it’s what the fans want. Still the best all-star game in sports, namely better than that craptastic NFL Pro Bowl.

  • JerseyJayhawks

People are funny. 97% of you were all on Melo’s jock last year and at the start of this years season. He belongs in the line up because they never pick the All Star Line Up fair. You should know that by the West leaving LaMarcus Aldridge out of their starting 5. LA is a monSTAR but they picked the sophmore Must See BG and Bynum? Wait..Andrew Bynum? smh. No Doubt. MELO…my man…enjoy your starting spot. If Andrew Bynum “earned” his, then you most certainly deserve yours playboy

  • shutup

Well i guess we can put to rest who is the best pf in the league, Carmelo Anthony…….lololololololololololol

  • bdogg

kobe making his 14th appearance…like the blue and red jerseys….i hope nike has a shoe for the mamba that matches his jersey and not the big bang! i would like a red kix like the YOTD wit the all star colors of grey and gold with infra red to match the jersey..i will cop that…come on nike!! lets do it! and yes, i will hold off on jersey for kb til olympics..i dont rock adidas jerseys! hand down..man down!

  • LA Huey

Someone’s doing it wrong. Facts aren’t debatable.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

Joel anthony didn’t make it? I am disappointed

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

This has become nothing more than a popularity contest which explains why Melo and BGriff made it over CB1 and KLove.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

I can even make a case that Wade has no business being a starter at the 2 spot given that his team has a better record without him in the lineup and his numbers all across the board are the worst since his rook season but the 2spot in the East is so bad that he gets in by default.

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

    JTaylor
I kind of agree with you but who else would you put in at the 2 spot? Joe Johnson maybe? Guy has been balling lately.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

LA and KLove both deserve to start ahead of Griffin. But no complaints here, Blake will put on a show. I just hope Lowry makes it as a reserve.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Uhm, Kyrie Irving better be an all-star. He almost deserves to start with how good he has been. 18 – 3 – 5 in 28 minutes on 51-41-82 is some crazy efficiency and production for a Rookie.

  • LP

kyrie almost deserves to start??? lol! Duke Fan Much????

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    Not even a little.

  • LA Huey

Yeah, nbk. I like Irving too and dude might deserve a spot on the team but not starting.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

infact, I thought Kyrie Irving wasn’t worth the first pick in the draft. And I also didn’t think he would be anywhere near an elite PG at any time in his career. But I’m also cool with the fact that I was dead wrong. And can appreciate that if Irving was actually playing heavy minutes, he would be producing at the exact same rate as the guy who is starting and has been injured.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

LA Huey, I said “almost” deserves to start. Not “does” deserve to start.

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

    No Ayon???

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

That 2:03 comment isn’t me but I agree with nbk Irving is balling and will be an All Star pretty soon if not this year.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

its not a travesty for Blake to be starting he’s playing well and his team is winning but carmelo on the other hand probably should be coming off the bench.

  • LA Huey

I forgot to make it clear that I don’t think he’s a clear choice for an All-Star. Thus, my questioning you saying he “almost” deserves a starting spot.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Who the point guard in the east that deserve to get in over him? Huey, I may just be overlooking something, but I don’t see who should. Jrue Holiday cuz he’s leading a winner?

  • http://slamonline.com. datkid

brandon jennings is putting up all-star #… and d.will is back to his old self neither of them are winning tho… honestly D.will has only made like two all-star games tho so I’d throw him in there. Irving will probably make a couple in the future.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

ahh Deron Williams, I was forgetting someone. My bad.

  • http://www.twitter.com/Rushelle34 Rushelle

Disappointed with the WEST Line-ups. No Dallas? That’s Impossible.

  • http://www.twitter.com/Rushelle34 Rushelle

@datkid yeah that’s true brandon jennings should be in the line up as well

  • http://www.twitter.com/Rushelle34 Rushelle

What’s up with MELO? you gotta be kidding me

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Irving has been better then Jennings, just plays less minutes
