Carmelo Anthony: ‘Dream Come True’ to Play With Jeremy Lin

The Linsanity is still, um, Linsane. Boxers are weighing in, Jeremy Lin is getting magazine covers, he’s being compared to movie characters, and he’s fattening the pockets of his employers and other stakeholders. And according to teammate Carmelo Anthony, there’s no reason to worry about the two co-existing. From the NY Times: “In a period of grief and mourning, the Stoudemire family of Lake Wales, Fla., found joy in the same place that basketball fans everywhere did last week: they watched Knicks games. Amar’e Stoudemire was back at Knicks practice Monday, after the death of his older brother last week in a car accident. ‘We were watching Linsanity,’ Amar’e Stoudemire, smiling brightly, said Monday. ‘And my family was getting a kick out of it. That’s the only smiles they really had all week.’ [...] Stoudemire, who has been pining for a skilled playmaker all season, favorably compared Lin’s style to that of Steve Nash, his former teammate in Phoenix. ‘You guys know my game,’ Stoudemire said. ‘You guys know how I play.’ There are questions about [Carmelo] Anthony, however. Anthony is used to dominating the ball, and his one-on-one style could disrupt the offensive flow the Knicks have established. Anthony will surely have to cede some control and play off the ball. Anthony says he is aware of the concern, having been bombarded about it on Twitter. ‘All this stuff about me fitting in, it’s funny,’ Anthony said. He insisted: ‘This is like a dream come true to me. It takes some pressure off of me.’ Anthony was forced to play as a point forward for much of the season while the Knicks’ other point guards, Toney Douglas and Iman Shumpert, struggled. ‘When I get back, Jeremy will have the ball in his hands, and I’m playing off of that,’ he said. [Mike] D’Antoni also dismissed the issue, saying of Anthony: ‘He’s not going to mess it up. I think that’s ludicrous.’”

Yeah I think he’s saying it’s a dream come true to have pressure taken off of him, way to twist the story Slam.

  • biggieman

Carmelo will return, dominate the ball with about 10 jab steps and 8 pump fakes before he does anything with the ball, and the Knicks will go back to being the biggest disappointment in the league. Jeremy Lin has been great, but Carmelo is a ballhog and a cancer to any team he’s on and it’s not going to work… Can’t believe he’s an all-star this season, fan voting should be thrown out!

It wont be the same when melo comes back because he will bog hog and linsanity will be over

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

co-sign red, slam is making it sound like carmelo was dreaming about balling with lin when he was in denver

  • kobesBESTfriend

Melo said the same thing about playing with AI and we all know how that turned out.If the Knicks were smart they would package Melo and Chandler in a deal Dwight and J Rich before Melo sabotages linsanity.

  • Zabbah

That A.I./Melo combo was deadly. They probably gave the best fight to the eventual champions two years in a row, Spurs and the Lakers. They got kicked out in the first round but the point differential was very small.

  • DHughes

I like Carmelo Anthony and it’s really not that he shoots a lot it’s that he doesn’t look for anybody to pass he doesn’t look to try and make the assist that’s why Carmelo will never be Lebron and a lot of other ways too

  • robb

‘He’s not going to mess it up. I think that’s ludicrous.’ that remains to be seen Pringles dude

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

After Melo “fits in,” what will the “haters” shift to next? J.R. Smith will ruin the team chemistry?

  • http://www.nba.com Red

JR is going to the Nuggets.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Red, you have a better chance of seeing pigs fly, than you do of seeing J.R. Smith play for George Karl again.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Damn I messed up, I meant Clippers LOL.

  • http://www.twitter.com/_dfrance DFrance21

Melo hears the whispers which is why I think, at least when he first comes back, he’s going to do everything in his power to fit in.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

If Lin really does dominate the ball Melo will fit in just fine. Just like he did with Iverson. – how Tyson Chandler and Amar’e coexist is really the problem so far for them.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

I like our chances of getting J.R. Smith in a Knicks uniform. J.R. Smith wants to put New York on his chest, not Clippers.

  • http://www.twitter.com/_dfrance DFrance21

Pick and roll, pick and pop and more pick and roll. D’Antoni has to stop having Amare coming off screens shooting elbow jumpers.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

But Clippers are a NBA Finals contender, if he wants to win Clips, if he wants to just play then Knicks.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

The Clippers are horrible defensively. I cannot see them getting out of the West.

  • Yessir

^that’s music to my ears. i dunno if it’s true but that’d b niiiice.

  • Yessir

i mean…the Clippers being title contenders. doubtful but everyone’s hopeful.

  • g-ryder

so i guess yall forgot about that Melo did have success with Iverson and Andre Miller

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Martin helps a lot, Knicks suck at D too. But a team of Billups, CP3, Martin, Griffin, JR, Mo..? Knicks aren’t even close.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Well considering Billups is out for atleast a year….

  • http://www.nba.com Red

    They still are better.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

who said they weren’t? And why do you think, JR Smith wants to win more then earn money? He just played in China, for a team that was barely in the playoff hunt. The Clippers aren’t THAT good, and the Knicks can pay him over a million more dollars. I think they have a much better shot of landing him.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

    Agree with DFrance21 @12:11 p.m.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Myth: Knicks (#14 in OPP PPG) suck at D. Currently yielding less points (94.64) per game than Miami (#15/95.10) and those pesky Clippers (#18/96.00). Oh and Novak his helping out A LOT for the Knicks right now hitting over half his 3′s to go along with some pesky D. I’d rather have a guy like Novak spreading the floor, to go along with J.R. Smith, than have K-Mart and not have J.R. Smith. As for your Clippers a contender comment…please, that status dropped when Smooth’s achilles popped. Knicks are were it’s at if J.R. Smith wants to be part of a team with a real shot to contend.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

I never said what he wanted I’m only a commentator hell if I know what the man wants. But Clippers are way better.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

The knicks have no shot to contend. Just because they give up 94 points doesn’t mean they are a good defensive team. Their margin of victory is .89 – And the average win % of their opponent is .444 – They are barely beating bad teams. To compare their defense to Miami’s is ridiculous.

  • MeloMan15

I don’t Slam for misleading us with that title

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Knicks contend..LMAO. He has a better chance to contend if he went to Syracuse & played there. Knicks stink simple as that.

  • shutup

dont know if Melo was being dismissive or sarcastic when asked questions about playing with Lin, I wanna see it work, just have a little trepidation about the cohesiveness of the team playing with a full roster.

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com Enigmatic

The clippers ain’t sh*t until they fire VDN.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

@nbk The Knicks offense is only going to keep getting better, which means they’re margin aka DIFF will keep going up. I’m going to tell you right now, the Knicks are going to keep “moving on up” in the Eastern Conference standings like the Jefferson’s, even more so with a guy like J.R. Smith draining wide open 3′s in that Knicks offense.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

They will start winning. Because now they have a PG and can play a real offense oriented game. Doesn’t mean they will actually contend. And their defense is only goin to get worse once they add the two worst defensive “superstars” in the NBA.

  • MikeC.

I agree with Orange and nbk on this one. I think the O will kick up a notch with a full roster, and the D will slip by the same amount. I don’t know if JR is the answer. He’s crazy talented, but he’s an all time chucker. He usually takes more off the table than he brings to it.

  • trueballer

    the knicks R BACK!

  • crooklyn

@nbk, smh you are a true joker. You can’t say enough about d’antoni and phx “contending” when they had good “o” and so-so “d”, but now the knicks are incapable of achieving the same results. Make up your mind

  • Jaep

All you dummies who keep sayin melo won’t fit need to get a life he been playin point gaurd all year he’s not a point gaurd he’s the best scorer in the league n this might make him the leading scorer in the league with a point gaurd who can get him wide open shots get off Melos back

  • phamie

Linsanity is just happened and will be gone soon this season. Jeremy Lin is not Steve Nash, you’ll get my point soon.
