Deron Williams Enjoyed Getting Revenge on Jeremy Lin

You might recall that Linsanity officially began against Deron Williams and the New Jersey Nets. Williams bottled up his anger about what occured the last time he faced Jeremy Lin, and got his payback last night at Madison Square Garden (scoring 38 points in a 100-92 Nets win.) From the NY Daily News: “Deron Williams sat at his locker, as ecstatic as he’s ever been since he was reluctantly traded to the Nets a year prior, and reeled off the reasons Monday night was special: He wanted another crack at Jeremy Lin, he wanted to attack a smaller point guard, and he wanted to avenge the night he helped create Linsanity. Williams read on Twitter about how he ‘got destroyed’ by Lin in their previous matchup on Feb. 4, when the Knicks point guard broke through at his expense. ‘So when somebody says they destroyed you, and you watch the tape and you don’t feel like you got destroyed, you circle those types of games,’ Williams said. [...] Williams added, ‘I don’t really watch SportsCenter, I don’t really watch too many games, but I do see Twitter. And every three lines was, ‘Jeremy Lin destroys Deron Williams’ in the first game. And like I said, I had it circled.’”

@nbk, Bro i aint a 3 year old. There is a huge line between hate and an opinion. I aint crying, im simply defending my team, why? im a knick fan. Been a knick fan for life. & i actually commend you for for your accurate evaluation of Lin, but for defending a biased commentator ( Red, the butthurt bulls fan), idk.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

People keep forgetting he played against horrible teams & turned it over a bunch. He played great against horrible teams but once he plays with Dwill & them he won’t last(first time he came out of nowhere Dwill didn’t expect him to do good). Again no one can say this kid isn’t decent he is but there’s a reason he did horrible with the Warriors. Again Knicks sucked so much that Lin is a delusional justification for it all. Refs will continue giving him fouls he shouldn’t get because the NBA is relishing this.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I didn’t defend anybody. I was defending the notion that Knicks fans are delusional, because a large % of them are. It drives lifelong Knicks fans, with a rational perspective on the team (which could be you, I don’t really know, I haven’t read enough of your comments to have an opinion), absolutely crazy. Because every time they reveal their preferred team, their opinion becomes less “relevant” – only because of the perception that Knicks fans are delusional. — Defending those that are, as not delusional, only makes the problem worse. Dig?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I didn’t mean to call you a 3 year old (my bad), I was just pointing out that your reaction to the phrase “Knicks fans are delusional” seemed childish.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

I see a whole lotta Knick hatin’ goin’ on. Jeremy Lin is SPECIAL. Deal with it.

  • l2ising Phoenix

    I dig. Lin for MVP.

  • l2ising Phoenix

    Lol.. im joking..!

  • AD

knicks fans are dilusional when they blame carmelo!!!.. and dont be surprised to see baron davis start in the future…. looked really good last night

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Knicks haters are just as delusional.

  • bull22

jeremy lin is a work in progress, period! end of story.. it takes time to build chemistry, i agree with magic johnson that whoever gets the knicks in the first round will get a team that is a hard out. mike d’antoni should have never called them contenders this year and i should never have picked them to finish third in the east because they got chandler…

  • AD

    lol ^ true

  • l2ising Phoenix

Knicks against Philly would be ideal for a first round matchup. BUT i would LOVE to see a Celtics/Knicks rematch.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate…hate leads to suffering. I see a whole lotta suffering goin’ on in here. Go Knicks!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I think we will end up with either Knicks v Hawks, or Knicks v Pacers. Unless the Magic really don’t trade Dwight….then Magic v Knicks, for the most entertaining first round series since Boston v Chicago in 09

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

Didn’t the Nets beat the Bulls the other day with some PG named CJ Wilson who people like Red say should be getting the same praise as Jeremy Lin for carrying the Bulls in Rose’s absence?? And how much did they lose by again? Knicks lost by 8. Had everyone who missed all those shots just made one basket a piece, this would be a different outcome. Mind you we didn’t have Shumpert who shuts down PG’s like Deron. Bulls fans especially hate on the Knicks for some reason. I’m a Knicks fan who roots hardbody for the Bulls cause I know they’re capable of keeping the Miami Heat from reaching the promised land, but y’all making me hope that Rose’s back spasms plague him for the rest of the season and playoffs…

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

My bad, meant CJ Watson’s bum ass…

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Deron Williams busting someone’s @ss is not new. At all. Lin had a bad game, and even for a bad game he put up 21/9/7/4 with only 3 turnovers. An assist to turnover ratio of 3 is great, and something the Knicks can live with.

  • Tully

Ok, so D-Will is 1-1 against an undrafted PG from Harvard and leading the Nets to a terrible season with no hope of making the playoffs… people argue that Lin’s story is overhyped, but think this is actually news? It never fails– whenever a legitimately good story breaks, there are always the reactionary fans who will immediately say, “oh that’s not such a big deal…” But I’ve been following NBA basketball since the early 1970s and I can can say that the Lin story is a unique one that SHOULD be getting media coverage. It’s a great basketball tale that really deserves the hype.

  • AD

@tully so you sayn dwill should lead a team full of dleaguers to the playoffs?
and how is lin not overhyped when you got dumba$$ sarah palin sayn hes uniting the country ?

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Yes before Watson was killing it hes doing badly lately but Mike James is great. Isiah Thomas has been on fire why aren’t we talking about him? Lol smh, Knicks fans are annoying cause they think they’re good while being only 7th seed, and losing to the Nets with all their players healthy, bums.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Red still comparing Jeremy Lin to C.J. Watson. Ha!

  • startown

I would rather have Shumpert than Lin personally. I wish the Twolves had Shumpert that guy looks to be a good player long term, really athletic and plays D.

  • http://sajkfldl.com Jukai

LOL. I feel bad for Lin. He wins, hype hype hype. He loses “SEE I TOLD YOU HE WAS ALL HYPE NO SUBSTANCE!”
    Jeez.
AD: Sarah Palin also said that Paul Revere rode on his horse to tell the British not to take our guns. Why in the world would you bring up Sarah Palin?

  • AD

@Jukai because it just brings me to the point that the media is overhyping him. Lin is a good player but when jeremy lin goes political it has to be overhyped….

  • Heals

Hater this, hater that, oh he’s a hater, sure that’s what a hater would say. That shht is soooo tired…

  • shuref00t

Why you gotta hate on all the haterz, Heals?!

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Lol, I just said I never compared the two, so not only is orange delusional he’s a moron..great. And quit with the hater stuff, y’all seriously view someone with an opinion as a hater? Wow

  • @Deknowz

See you in the playoffs Deron…oh wait, your still a NET. Maybe next year?

  • l2ising Phoenix

Lmao @ O, c.j Wilson Lmao. Idk why I found that so funny. Like I said Mr. Red , your opinions carry an ill amount of HATE, towards Lin/Knicks. If your were in a healthy debate about let’s seee green or blue would you say “blue is a great color, but yall just mad blue ain’t the color of money! ” I know , horrible analogy. But w.e idc anymore… Anybody know who the Knicks play next?

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-talk/2011 Diesel

@Deknowz – The Knicks, by percentage points, are tied for the 8th seed in the playoffs. They still have a losing record. Slow your role making fun of Nets fans not making the playoffs. That’s like a 300 lb guy making fun of a 320 lb guy for being fat. And maybe I missed the other conversations, but what’s wrong with comparing Lin to CJ Watson? CJ Watson is a strong back-up that can start on several teams. That’s probably exactly where Lin ends up after all the nonsense slows down.

  • not your fan

That cool D-Will got what he wanted.. to be frank i can careless about him.. I just want to say J-Lin is a rook and his time will come, last night he wasn’t playing Lin Ball. I blame it on Carmelo A. the ball hogger. I know it his team but he need to share the f’n ball.. Over rated and nothing to anticipate. SMH

  • Havana

I’ve watched a lot of lins games and have been cheering for him. However as with all players that I end up disliking the media has given him disproportionate props which makes him (to me) umlikable. Lin has a few weaknesses, he is turnover prone and although the commentators talk about how he is a big guard he really has strength issues when he enters the lane. Unfortunately for those that are trying to like his game, he also has started to become the beneficiary of a lot of phantom foul calls (adding to his point totals). No 2nd year player gets that much respect ever from he referees. Last night was a perfect example, a lot of eye rolling and ‘yeah whatever’ expressions by the nets whenever Lin got a bail out call. So for me this is slowly becoming a case of the nba and the hype machine unnecessarily ruining what should be a great story.

  • http://sajkfldl.com Jukai

AD: Sarah Palin hasn’t been in politics for forever, she’s entertainment now. She said something about the Jeremy Lin craze to appear up-to-date and hip, as well as to stay relevant.
    How old are you, exactly?

  • Ldub

I am still trying to figure out what the hype is all about? 10 games right? just 10 games on a shortened schedule full of injuries and tired players. A depleated roster. The moment Melo comes back they lose. SO Knick fans, is it Melo or Lin that you would prefer to have? Its only been 1 game, but they didnt win. NO WIN FOR LIN (that should have been the title of this). I will not knock the fact that the kid is playing insane right now. However, the turnovers are killers and the Knicks have yet to play a stretch of great defensive teams.
Williams, Wall, Fisher, Rubio, Jack, Kidd (none of these PGs strike fear as defenders). Thursday night vs the Heat will be the true test…leagues best defensive team. Chalmers and Cole should put more pressure on him than any of the previous pgs…plus Wade and Bron have the size/skills/speed to keep him in check!

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHoliday

@not your fan, you should delete your comment for a few reasons. For starters, Lin isnt a rookie. 2, what the hell is Lin Ball? 3, do you really believe its melo fault they lost, because I don’t think so? 4, why do you think Melo is “over rated”?

  • charliewinning

According to internet commentators, a large percentage of Knick fans are delusional (and your data comes from what exactly?), and they are annoyed at a city they don’t live in supporting the local team. That’s not a difference of opinion, that’s being an obsessive hater. Nobody forces anyone to read hype artcles.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

    Exactly Ldub.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-talk/2011 Diesel

Williams and Rubio are good defensive point gaurds. And Kidd wasn’t gaurding Lin, Marion was. I wouldn’t completely write off what Lin is doing. There’s a happy medium there somwhere.

  • http://www.t-mac.com/tmac/index unf*ckwitable

    Dwill should circle every game.

  • http://sajkfldl.com Jukai

    Diesel: Apparently not on SLAM.

  • Ldub

when you think of Rubio, you think of passing. when you think of Dwill, you think of “all around PG”. Marion is too old to guard any pg in the L even his own teammate Kidd. Maybe you should read the entire post again and realize that I said … “I will not knock the fact that the kid is playing insane right now”…<—-this means that I agree he is doing his thing, however….the guards he has played against, are not defensive minded guards.

  • http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/miamiheat/post/_/id/12140/is-this-the-best-start-ever-for-lebron-james nbk

Diesel & Jukai, you guys realize Lin did literally nothing against Rubio right?

  • BuzzerBeater

To be honest, Knicks would’ve still won if JLin would just keep playing his game like the past few. He cared too much about letting Melo fit in, whereas the whole arena was waiting for Lin to take over.

  • BuzzerBeater

Plus, he “only” had 3 TO last night. I would take his 6 TO and the Dub any day over 3 TO and L. He wasnt as aggressive last night. Those who watched the game know that the energy just wasn’t the same.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Wtf lol Melo only took 11 shots wtf do you mean he was worried about fitting Melo in? If that were true he wouldn’t have taken all those shots.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Jeremy Lin’s story reminds me more of Kurt Warner in 1999, not Tim Tebow in 2012. Jeremy Lin’s SI cover should have read: Who is this guy? From out of nowhere, the Knicks’ Jeremy Lin, takes the NBA by storm.

  • Ldub

@BuzzerBeater…maybe he is just getting tired of playing so many minutes every night? Dude is averaging 43min a night. Regardless of your energy, style of play, etc., you will get tired. Especially playing games so close together. Even the best athletes in the world, with all the best trainers and training facilities cannot keep going at such a high pace.

  • Paul H

Jeremy Lin Is being blamed for Sarah Palin saying something retarded. *Sigh, walks toward the door*

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Orange, I agree. Much more similar to Kurt Warner then anyone else that I can think of.

  • bull22

@orange, uh more like tim tebow cause lin not leading the ny knicks to
a title this year, lol! if the knicks were to win an nba title this year, i would have nothing negative to say about them until 2013.
