Jeremy Lin Hasn’t Impressed Jason Terry Too Much

Prior to the Knicks/Mavericks showdown at MSG yesterday, Jason Terry let it be known that he wasn’t in awe of Linsanity — saying Jeremy Lin is a product of Mike D’Antoni’s system, and a media-created star — and then went out and got handed a loss (behind 28 points and 14 assists from the Knicks’ point guard sensation.) Per the Star-Telegram: “I’ve been a point guard in this league and (45 turnovers in seven games) would have gotten me on the bench real fast,’ Terry said. ‘Terry believes Lin has benefited handsomely from Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni’s uptempo system. ‘He’s in D’Antoni’s system, and any player that plays a guard position in D’Antoni’s system has opportunities to be able to put up good numbers, and I think that’s what he’s been able to do,’ Terry said. ‘The ball’s in your hands a lot and you’re going to have turnovers.’ Terry also said that a lot of what Lin has accomplished is media-driven. ‘I think it’s a lot of hype right now,’ Terry said. ‘Is he going to be a good player in the future? If he continues to work, he will. But given the opportunity, he’s taken advantage of it. But everybody’s making a lot out of just the seven games he’s played.’ And what about those seven games? ‘I’ve been in the league 13 years, and seven games don’t necessarily make a career, but he does have great buzz right now,’ Terry said. ‘But we’ll see when he face the (world) champs tonight.’”

Quality win against the champs and put up amazing numbers hate him or love him those numbers don’t lie. He does jump to pass in the lane tho think he stops doing that it might reduce his turnovers.

  • Yep

    nash haters lol. so funny.

The Lin story is a great story because he came from virtually nowhere and now doing it on the NBA’s biggest stage. You can’t make a career based on 7-8 games, but you sure can tell a great story (see Tebow). I don’t buy the Dantoni system thing, otherwise they wouldn’t have been in such a ‘desperate’ place trying to find a PG to run his system. If it was that ‘easy’ for a PG to put up numbers, then someone would have done it already. Unless of course Jet was making a hidden insult at douglas etc. Bottom line, we’ll see how good Lin is/isn’t by the end of the season when there is more of a data set to look at, and we can also see how well Baron Davis does in the same system. Until then, just enjoy the story as it may/not last too much longer.

Virtually nowhere? He was undrafted but he played for the warriors & played too but he sucked.

Between Terry and Cuban, they just never know when to shut up.

At Zeus who said that Nash is the most overrated 2-time MVP, explain why Nash has had equally good years last year and this year without D’Antoni? Don’t be stupid, Nash is an excellent player and the only reason why I don’t consider him to be one of the greatest PG’s of all-time is his mediocre defence. Nash makes all kinds of scrubs in Phoenix better.

Jeremy Lin and Jason Terry is no match with Steve Nash. That’s it!

Jason has a lot to say know about any other guard…. and I love it. “If you want it you should’a put a TATT on it”?!?

Yeah that’s it, a system makes a player an MVP. What a completely moronic statement! Can’t stand the Nash haters who have no idea what they’re talking about. As for Lin, yes his turnovers are up but that can be attributed to trying to adjust to having the ball all the time. Given experience, those turnovers will come down. Probably slowly for now given there’s no real practice time but with a full training camp, familiarity with his teammates etc., it will happen. I can’t believe there are so many Lin haters though. How can you not just sit back and enjoy what this kid has done since being inserted into the starting lineup? I know the media blows it WAY out of proportion but don’t blame Lin for that. He’s doing and saying all the right things and playing great. Isn’t that enough?

I love Jeremy lin.. he is a good player!!!! But lets face it Terry was right!!!! playing for Mike D’ Antoni will have your stats explode!!!
Why!!??? offense wins championship and defense wins couple of games – d antoni

Does Mike D’Antoni have a system , is running a system not to mention no defense , its funny cause everyone on this site knows defense wins yet a multi million $$ professional coach can’t figure it out . Too many people are giving D’Antoni too much credit , peoople on here saying he made Nash . Lets not compare Lin to Nash cause there is no comparison , Lin has played a good month of basketball and if D’Antoni’s system is so amazing why is one of the best offensive players (Melo ) having so much trouble

I’m African American, I have not been inspired by Kobe,Terry, Lebron,D-wade. I’m inspired by a guy who came from nothing. Its the humanity, the spirit, the encouragement outside basketball that you hoop official’s don’t understand. Jeremy Lin is good for a stale, ego laden industry, that needed to see change. What he has done in 2 weeks overshadows all the championship rings, the trash talk and inflated seat prices. He brought god back to the game. Hope to the masses, and love for the individual. Nothing…absolutely nothing…tops that.

PLAYA HATA ! ! DONT MAKE A SOUND, LAY ON THE GROUND. YOUV’ E BEEN ROBBED. LOL at that fool J.T.

You can’t win a single game in the NBA without a system. Just because you don’t understand it, or the plays don’t start from a static position doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. TO suggest that D’Antoni’s teams don’t have a system is to say, matter of factly, “I don’t know what I’m talking about”

Why do people find it offensive to hear that D’Antoni’s system made Nash MVP?
Was he an MVP candidate before Phoenix? Did his skillset or play change drastically in Phoenix? Was he surrounded by far more player talent in Phoenix?
The answer to all three questions is no. So, if none of those things changed, exactly what changed? It’s pure logic.
Many great players excel in certain system. Jason Kidd was always better up tempo. Gary Payton was always better when he got post touches, and struggled in the triangle. Magic Johnson loved being uptempo. Scottie Pippen’s talents were enhanced by the triangle.
There are very few players whose efficiency and success is not impacted by the system they play in. Some are just impacted more than others.

Lin is an overhyped average point guard at best. Miami just exposed everything JT said, and the exposing will continue into March.
