JR Smith Scored 60 Points, Hit 14 Threes in a Chinese Playoff Game

JR Smith continue to tear it up in China. He scored 60 points today while bombing away from long-range in a Playoff game. Per ZagsBlog: “J.R. Smith dropped 60 points in a Chinese League playoff game Wednesday. Here’s the box score showing that the former Denver Nuggets and St. Benedict’s Prep guard went 14-for-18 from beyond the arc and also added eight rebounds — off the bench — in the Zhejiang Cyclones’ 122-110 win over Qingdao Double Star. Former Nets and UConn big man Josh Boone added 18 points in the win. Smith is one of several Americans playing in China who can’t join the NBA until their team’s seasons end.’ [...] His father, Earl, told SNY.tv, that his son is ‘just concentrating on what he’s gotta get done.’ Earl seemed to dismiss the Knicks, who only have the $2.5 million mini-level available, as an option. ‘So $2.5 million, come on,’ he said.”

Not to stoke the fire – but before you can really debate what is or isn’t ‘racist’, those in the conversation all need to agree on what racism really is. Many (not all) white people view racism as any form of prejudice based on ethnicity, while many (not all) people of color see racism as also encompassing political power. That way of thinking follows that you can’t be racist towards a race that’s politically more powerful than a minority as the politically weaker minority will never have the social or political systems in place to marginalize and exclude the more powerful majority from mainstream society. Prejudice, on the other hand is color blind and any idiot is free to pick it up and run with it as they please…To me, it’s all semantics – prejudice of any form shouldn’t be tolerated in the type of world I want to live in. But that’s just me…

Good Lord there are a lot of women on here today. Oh I know, I must be sexist. I just showed bike’s comment to my Taiwanese co-worker and my half Chinese manager and they’re LTAO! You know why? Because they’re not a bunch of tight a$$es with no sense of humour. And AllenP, people aren’t upset that you think you’re special. It’s more that you think you’re MORE special, more educated, and have a better opinion than anyone else. You can deny it all you want but if someone disagrees with you (nbk does this too) you get your boxers in a bunch and start in with the “I don’t understand why more don’t see it the way I do”. Well, because as much as you like to think you are, you’re not always right and people have more of a problem with the “holier than thou” attitude that you have.

shut up justin^^. Look I get what lakeshow’s saying about not feeding trolls and such and I hear you guys who say people are sheep because they just automatically agree with allenp, but personally through his comments I believe Allenp has more than earned the right to our respect. and what’s really disturbing on here isn’t the “sheep” or the fact that everyone here has a problem with someone who thinks he’s special, but that people are defending something blatantly racist just to prove someone wrong who they’ve secretly ALWAYS had a problem with. But that’s just my opinion.

^^^actually why don’t you shut it. Nobody earns the right to our respect. You earn the respect, not the right to it. I’m assuming you’re just phrasing it wrong. Either way, I’m entitled to my opinion and the AllenP “haters” are not the only ones that see as I do. I respect anyone’s opinion but it’s also in the way they present that opinion. He presents it like he knows better than everybody else. Normally you can maybe attribute it to not being able to read tone over the internet or it’s just coming across wrong but when it’s ALL THE TIME you have to question it.

shutup: anyone who disagrees with someone because he feels that person is getting too much props is a tool

  • http://slamonline.com. datkid

No justin you should still shut it. We’re on the internet you have no idea if he’s being condescending, pull your skirt up and stop projecting your insecurities on someone else. also cosign Jukai above.

Man, folks are free to feel however they would like to feel about my comments on this site. If you think I’m arrogant, pompous and belligerent, that’s fine. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been called those things in print or in real life.
I appreciate the cats who said something in my defense, but it’s really not necessary. Most people on here have butted heads with me at some point or another over an opinion. I believe strongly in my opinions and I always will.
As for the racism issue, it is what it is. I didn’t make a strong initial comment about it because I knew the discussion was going to go where it went. I allowed myself to get sucked into a more extensive discussion than I planned by Lakeshow’s response, and that was my fault.
People are going to believe what they believe and I’m going to believe what I believe. And I’m not going to stop sharing my beliefs when I feel the need to. And folks can response how they like because this is the Internet. That’s it.
And White Men Can’t Jump, despite it’s title, played on stereotypes about both black and white ballplayers. And it also turned those stereotypes on their ear, and examined how and why they were so wrong. Maybe y’all should go back and watch what I still consider to be a classic movie. Notice how it addresses all the popular stereotypes about black and white ballplayers, then, through the story, shows you how superficial those stereotypes really can be.

Thank you for agreeing with me datkid. Like you said, it’s the internet so you don’t know if he’s being condescending. But you also don’t know for sure if he IS do you? Exactly. So pipe down. And I’m not projecting any insecurities at all. That would be ridiculous on a site like this one. Forget hiking up my skirt, you should get off your knees
