JR Smith Scored 60 Points, Hit 14 Threes in a Chinese Playoff Game

JR Smith continue to tear it up in China. He scored 60 points today while bombing away from long-range in a Playoff game. Per ZagsBlog: “J.R. Smith dropped 60 points in a Chinese League playoff game Wednesday. Here’s the box score showing that the former Denver Nuggets and St. Benedict’s Prep guard went 14-for-18 from beyond the arc and also added eight rebounds — off the bench — in the Zhejiang Cyclones’ 122-110 win over Qingdao Double Star. Former Nets and UConn big man Josh Boone added 18 points in the win. Smith is one of several Americans playing in China who can’t join the NBA until their team’s seasons end.’ [...] His father, Earl, told SNY.tv, that his son is ‘just concentrating on what he’s gotta get done.’ Earl seemed to dismiss the Knicks, who only have the $2.5 million mini-level available, as an option. ‘So $2.5 million, come on,’ he said.”

Don’t get oversensitive here people. It was a bad joke, and that’s all let’s move on.

Enig, Keyword: ALMOST. LOL just playing I always lose, but I’m bored. I don’t even know who Eric Crumble is, but i’ll insert Eric Cartman because it probably is similar enough to what your trying to say. Also, I don’t really like AllenP the commenter. I don’t like anyone who thinks they are better than anyone else and it’s always obvious to me in his speech that he does think of himself as someone quite special. Now AllenP the man? I don’t know him. I most likely would have respect for him if I knew him. I would also most likely give him the shirt off my back if he needed it. Just the type of person I am. Yet he still treats me like I am racist scum and that bugs me (even though it shouldn’t because it’s quite far from the truth). Because he has ZERO idea who I am. I just find it to be a silly battle to try and stop trolling….

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

@robb, Exactly what I was saying. It was a bad, tasteless, unfounded, racist joke. Why would we ever give it as much attention as we are right now…

  • red

Idk what race anyone is here, but I’m Chinese. Wasn’t expecting anyone to speak up for the Chinese, but I guess it’s good to know that people at least point out what is racist and what’s not, albeit if it’s a joke. I seriously overlooked it, and when I re-read it I don’t really take offense cuz I’m pretty easy going.

    Btw Bike, I’m 6’1.

Besides that, I wonder what teams are interested in JR Smith? They keep mentioning the teams interested in K-Mart. And who’s gonna sign Wilson Chandler? Can’t wait for feb 16!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Wilson Chandler will be a Nugget. Correct me if I’m wrong, but he retains his bird rights, and they intend on keeping him long-term.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Chubachuchi

Ching chong gwai lo…….(I’m Asian/pacific islander btw)……..汉字/漢字…..I think this means fruitcake…. just f*cking with you guys….I know its a bad joke my chinese friend told me so…..

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

God doesn’t need me to defend him, he’s omnipotent.
Human beings, particularly those targeted for “little racist jokes” are not omnipotent. Thus, they need me to speak up.
Just because we discuss basketball does not mean casual racism will be tolerated. I’m not condoning certain behavior because that’s where I draw my line. You draw your line whereever you please.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I really wish people would stop telling me what’s important to me. Or worth my comment. Seriously.
And God doesn’t need my defending. I decided that a long, long time ago. God is what God is, and people can either respect or not respect it at their own peril.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    I am special.
On here and in real life. My parents taught me that growing up, my life experiences reinforced it.
If I didn’t believe I was special my life would have turned out a lot worse. A LOT.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Damn, I can’t seem to stop myself.
the solution to correcting racist attitudes is not ignoring them.
As I’ve said before, name another serious problem in the world where the widely agreed upon solution is ignoring manifestations of the problem.
    I’ll wait.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

That’s easy Allen, it’s called “teenagers”.

  • robb

lol c’mon Allenp it’s obvious guys like red don’t need you to speak up. Like he said he’s an easy going fella, he clearly can tell when someone is joking and when someone is actually insulting. If it had been an insult I’m sure he’d be able to speak up and defend himself, and we’ll be right here backing him up, but I think in this case you’re overreacting.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

idk about Allen, but I get offended when there is blatant racism. I don’t care if it pertains to me or not. I’m actually happy Allen pointed out the racism because I didn’t even read the comment, and would have been even more disappointed if I saw that tomorrow or something and it was never addressed.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

A few months back, somebody made a fairly racist comment about Asians. I saw it, but I let it slide figured somebody else would deal with it and I didn’t feel like being the “race guy” on that day. Just went on with the conversation.
Teddy and Myung, both Asian cats, called me out for that, justifiably so. They noted that I’m the first one to comment when something crosses the line with black folks, but I just let something about Asians slide. I gave a lame explanation that I was waiting on somebody who was connected to that community to handle the comment, but the reality is that the only way racism and discrimination ends is if all of us hold each other accountable for everything. We can’t leave it up to other people. I remember what they said, and I’ve corrected my actions.
Also, I didn’t call the fake bike’s comment racist. I said it was on the line because honestly his observations might have been factual. Unnecessary, but still factual. So I had to go try to see if there was some truth. My gut feeling was that he was using some race-based pseudo science, but I don’t jump down cat’s throats when possible facts are involved without getting my facts straight.
However, my decision to point out bike’s comment, brought some additional comments, which of course infuriated Lakeshow because he believes that the way to have a racism free world is to just ignore most examples of racism.
    We obviously disagree.

  • davidR

    dirk’s reaction to allen’s 5:31pm comment:
“shut it downnnnnn! let’s go homeeeeee!”

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I just agreed with 90% of your post Allen till you went off about telling me who I am and why I do things. “Bahh, no need to get your panties in a wad there Allen.” If that is me “infuriated” then you don’t wanna see me when i’m angry lol. I have allot of things I want to say, but i’m going to let this go. Kind of… Lastly, You all may have heard the term “feeding the trolls.” That’s how it works at times when you call out someone for something you don’t like (even if it be something as disgusting as racism.) Sometimes what’s going on is some geeky a$s internet kid, most likely a dumb, little, white, freckled, nerd from white suburbia where he has seen 4 black people in his life, is jacking off with his hillbilly cracker buddies while they giggle to the internet hate speech they have so ingeniously came up with. I think we should call out people in real life… I just don’t know how much good it does to feed the trolls in certain circumstances. In the real world someone will get taken outside by me if they pull some racist garbage, on the internet I have always felt it best to let sleeping dogs lie when it comes to trolling. Ignoring in real life is stupid and irresponsible. Ignoring on the internet is a great tool imo. That is all.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-talk/2011 Diesel

Although I agree with Allen’s argument for this particular item, I do find it disturbing how many commenters on this site just fall in line with whatever he says…thanking him for his comments or posting stuff like davidr @6:07. So I sort of get what Lakeshow was getting at with his 5:11 comments. That stuff definitely seems to have gone to Allen’s head. That’s the only explanation I can gather for why he’d proclaim “I’m Special!” like a 13 year old girl that just won Homecoming Queen.
I’m special too!!! My mother told me so! Just incase any of you guys on this basketball site were wondering

  • LA Huey

And then Allenp’s 5:47pm was a more eloquent version of Dirk’s “Take dat witchuuuuu!”

  • LA Huey

“I do find it disturbing how many commenters on this site just fall in line with whatever he says.” It’s not falling in line so much as agreeing with a particular idea. I won’t try to speak for others, but when it comes to race-related issues, I don’t usually chime in because Allenp does a better job of illustrating the point. I’ve put in my two cents in past discussions (i.e. Bill Walton v Fab 5) but what I wrote was mostly redundant with the comments Allenp made.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Don’t you find it strange how upset it makes people that I think I’m special?
    I do.

  • LA Huey

Also, I do appreciate folks calling people out on bigotry. We come here to discuss basketball and if the comments here have sexist and racist remarks, the community we have here will feel hostile/uninviting to people who just want to come and talk about the game we all love. For example, I don’t even scroll down to the comments section when I read ESPN articles because it’s…disgusting.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    And last comment.
I have disagreed with most cats on this site. Eboy and I have had at it. NBK and I used to butt heads every day. LA Huey, Darksaber, all these cats. Nobody issues blanket agreement because all these people have their own minds. I have no special status, nor do I want any.

  • LA Huey

You’re not special though, Allenp. But props to your mother for hyping you up if that’s what you credit for where you are today. I’m expecting big things from JaVale after what his mom said about him the papers.

  • Ldub

deezam. Gone for a few hours and we got racists, crickets and dudes with wadded drawls on! Gotta love SLAM. On a cleaner underwear note, Smith would be wise to jump onto a contender coming off the bench. He obviously likes to shoot. So, go to a team (like the bulls) who needs some scoring off the bench. Heat, Lakers, Knicks(even though they need defenders) Mavs, maybe even the top seeded Thunder. Have been an under the radar fan of Smith, but in all reality, dude can drop buckets.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

idk who “falls in line” or what that even means in a place with no hierarchy of any sort, but when I disagree with Allen I say it, and when I agree I say it.

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

People missed the biggest issue here – HE DID THIS OFF THE BENCH. 60 off the bench!

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

Ohh..biggest issue here was the borderline racism.. but still.. off the bench!

  • fruizm

SLAM should automatically close the comment section once the topic goes out of hand…like in this case haha.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

i agree with AllenP on calling out inappropriate comments, but at the same time I concur with LakeShow’s stance on ignoring obvious trolling comments. hmm….

  • http://chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls Diesel

nbk – if you don’t see it, I won’t be able to explain it to you.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Diesel, I have felt that people just agree with Allen because of who he is or how much respect he’s given but not here and not very often.

  • robb

hey, AllenP’s special, nbk’s special, Lakeshow you are special, we are all special, there’s nothing wrong about it, every human being is special. If someone calls himself special it’s OK (I felt like Iverson talking about practice).

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Haha y’all know I’m special. They used to call me special Ed.

  • Just Sayin

    *crickets*

  • burnt_chicken

what I learned from this thread:
    1. some commenters really feel themselves. And why not? I highly doubt anyone else is ever in the room.
    2. trolling works!
    3. Panties tend to wad.
    4. JR Smith is Asian. And People are NOT happy about it.

  • floe

white men can’t jump was pretty damn racist and look hollywood made a movie out of that one. from my experience, ignorance doesn’t always necessarily equate to racism.

  • grizz grit grind

    video or it didnt happen

  • shutup

I saw that comment this morning and just decided to ignore it, I even typed something along the lines of that guy probably thinks all asians know kung-fu can do trigonometry when there 4 but decided against it, I figured I’d leave it to others to say something

  • http://dsfjklf.com Jukai

Floe: So you think he really believes Asians can’t see vertically? You think that’s just an ignorant statement? Or was it a racist statement?
Maybe people agree with Allen because he writes very intelligent and because he is generally right? It’s called giving props where they are due.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Lol isn’t being intelligent and generally right how he got enough respect to have people just agree with him in the first place?

  • aj

grizz grit grind here you go – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W40b4B-QAlQ

  • MeloSmith

OK guys the money doesn’t matter for him he gets a one year contract and he already should have enough money. He wants to sign with them beacause he can play there with his old teammate/good friend Melo, because they have a good team (that has to find his rythm), he in new york are his roots and because of the media as well. So do you really think he will sign with any other team than the knicks? Doesn’t seem very probably. I really hoped at the beginning of the season that he will exactly join the knicks when he comes back from his china career. I’m looking forward to the story.

  • shutup

not to start an arguement, well actually I really dont care; but anybody who would just agrees with someone is a sheep.

  • Harlem_World

What was the coach thinking about? His bench output prolly outdid the entire starting 5 on his own! Slightly off topic, but when Chandler comes back to the Nuggs – they are going to be a problem! As for the racist comments, they were more than borderline, racist is racist whether you want to accept that or not. As for sheep on here following Allen comment, it doesn’t make you a sheep if you support or agree with an individuals opinion. In a democracy we have the right to choose what we do or do not subscribe to. It just so happens that Allen takes the time to illustrate what alot of people on here may be feeling themselves at times and so some of us let him have at it. Not all the time, mind, as there are times I find him ‘wrong and strong’ – but that’s one of the main pulls to this comments section, healthy debate. Finally, for all of you who currently hold any racist prejudice towards Asian people – your lives are going to get a whole lot worse in the next couple of decades, assuming we all make it there. China is taking over…

  • https://plus.google.com/photos/106403650426394352312/albums/posts davidR

hah diesel, am i not allowed to agree with what allen says? there’s a reason why i singled out that single comment, and only that comment.

  • https://plus.google.com/photos/106403650426394352312/albums/posts davidR

so don’t assume i’m “falling in line” because i agreed with what he said at 5:31pm. cuz you know what they say when you assume..

  • French toast

Aaron brooks is not that good in china but he was better than smith in NBA. Gerald Green used to play in CBA too, he averaged 26.5 a game in 4 games.

  • http://www.huwlhopkins.com #6marjon

i scored 60 the other day on some lower-school ballers.

  • BBaller

@ floe 10:53pm, you nailed it, where was AllenP when the phrase White men can’t jump was first used. Saying Asians can’t see vertically is the same. But oh no he condones racism against whites but gets all sensitive when other races are vilified or generalised. AP sort it out, you cannot choose when you are against racism or not, you either are totally or not. It was just bad taste by bike.Get over yourself

  • BBaller

White men can’t jump…see Tom chambers
