Kobe Bryant: Lakers Have to ‘Work Too Hard’ to Score Points

Following a testy, losing affair in OKC last night, Kobe Bryant was critical of his team’s offensive attack. From the LA Times: “The Lakers trailed at halftime after that flurry, 46-43. They never led again. [Kobe] Bryant had his second bad shooting night in a row. He also had a lengthy, um, chat with Durant and Thunder guard James Harden toward the end of the game. Bryant laughed about it afterward. ‘Maybe one day they’ll be able to sit at my lunch table,’ he said. ‘Right now we’re at two different lunch tables, man. The conversation’s pretty brief.’ Durant had 33 points for Oklahoma City (27-7), which improved to 15-1 at home. Westbrook had 19 points for the Thunder. Harden had 16. Durant and Westbrook will be at the All-Star game Sunday in Orlando. The Lakers do not play again until Wednesday against Minnesota. They could use some downtime. ‘We’ve got to work too hard to get points,’ Bryant said. ‘I’m sure the coaches will talk about it over All-Star break, but we’ve got to make our jobs a little easier. We’re going against defenses that are sending double-teams all the time. We’ve got to have a little more movement — free Andrew up, free Pau [Gasol] up, free myself up so I don’t have to work against two guys all the time. Oklahoma does a fantastic job over there. They do a great job of putting [Durant] in the right place so he doesn’t have to work too much.’”

Maybe if you actually dumped it into the bigs a little more we wouldn’t have such a difficult time. Shooting contested threes getting your team out of rhythm sigh let me stop smh blood pressure is getting high

  • Paul H

I was actually just looking at his stats last night, Kobe Is shooting almost FIVE three’s a game. That Is just waaaaaayyyyyy to many. Wasn’t everyone on Lebron’s back saying he needed to get his ass In the post? You’re right T-Ray. He could be making things so much easier If he just used His bigs to space the floor better. Then again kick out to who? Ron, Fish and a D-League bench….No offense big man!

  • Washoom

Try not forcing shots over double teams. I think it will help Pau, Andrew, and the team in general. Also try to take care of the ball.

  • Rrfanatic

And the funny thing is lakers still keep that luke walton and fire lo.smh

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Kobe takes horrible shots and then says they have to work too hard.
Well maybe if you weren’t constantly isolating on the wing, holding the damn ball and then forcing tough fallway jumpers the game would be more fluid.
You know, post passes, back cuts, that sort of thing. Kobe is so ridiculous in so many ways.

  • Sizzle

Kobe should have said “The Lakers are working too hard to get me the ball.” I saw numerous times they tried to force it into him resulting in TO’s just to get him the ball…

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

Kobe is such a little b!tch. He started getting pissed during the final minute, and then he tries to play it off like it was all fun and games and he’s better than them anyway. That’s like the ugly girlfriend that gets dumped and says, “Oh I’m not upset, I could do better anyway!” Not at this stage in your career. Sorry Kobe.

  • BlackStar

Does Kobe take a lot of bad shots? Yes. But since they don’t have great three pointer shooters, other teams pack it in the paint and that makes it difficult for the bigs to operate down low. That’s the main reason they lost to the Knicks the other day … They quickly double teamed Bynum and Gasol anytime the ball went down low and the Lakers don’t have the shooters to make teams pay. Kobe might shoot 5 3′s a game, but who else do we expect to shoot them? Kapono? Fisher? Metta World Peace? C’mon son … Kobe’s doing what he can to help his team win.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I thought James Harden told Kobe he needed to pass. I’m so serious.

  • AQWORD

LOL, this one. Kobe thinks the Lakers need to put up 200 shots to score 100 points & that is why he is an obvious (unt. I love this year! NBA where the truth eventually comes out happens.

    Oh Mike Brown teams…….
    .

Oh untalented teams with Kobe “i am the best option at all times” bryant

Oh the combination of the two….

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

Get gilbert arenas already you goofies, what do the lakers have to lose.?

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

STFU Kobe. F*cking douche. Put the ball in the hoop. It’s your job. So pissed at Bean right now. Pull it together man you look like sh*t out there.

  • SI44

    Co-Sign LakeShow,

I rock with the Lakers the long way, have since ’88, but last night he jus looked like he was over the hill and a gunner. Like he was determined to take shots on certain possessions regardless of what the defense gave. That’s the low basketball iq Kobe that gives his detractors reason to pop off.

  • http://slamonline.com 1982

    Your bad.

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHOLIDAY

Funny how Kobe says they are working against double teams all the time! Someone should tell him if opponents double team him, one person is open! THERE’S YOUR EASY SHOT NERD!

  • Mick

Keep jacking Kobe 41% by the end of the season plus 5 turnovers a game

  • http://juan.garcia@computershare.com POW

At the end of the day it Kobe with 5 rings and counting vs 0 for KD and Russell. Eat on that moephoes!

  • Sizzle

Forgot to add I bet if he puts up another game like this and he will come out with one of his “Ok I will only take 1 shot in the first half performances.”

  • bike

Kobe, there is no motivation for the other four guys to move around while you do the jack up routine. And once again, why does Kobe do all the critique? Does Mike Brown have a say on anything with this team?

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    Kobe is impervious to dumping.

  • Ill Smith

I’ve been a self proclaimed Kobe hater from Day 1 but I’ve always respected his game. That being said, he has no choice but to take so many shots. I watched the game last nite & it’s fairly obvious what the LAkers need….a DAMN POINT GUARD. They’re not running the triangle anymore where a PG isn’t needed, they’ve gotta find a way to get Kobe better shots & a true point who can dump the ball to the bigs down low. If Bean doesn’t pull it who y’all counting on MWP? Murphy? Be serious man, find a PG for the LAkers so he can free up the offense & get Kobe some easier shots.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

translation: I’m working to hard to get buckets….which he is. See the man running around without the ball more than ever. And when he gets the ball there really is no structured spacing, certaintly no coordination with other team mates. He’s taking terrible shots, simply a side effect of a terrible offensive system

  • http://www.slamonline.com TADOne

Got to love Kobe’s high school analogy of the fight. Douche….

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Without Shaq and Pau, Kobe is sitting at the no playoffs and 1st round fodder table. Talking about how he takes pride in never being swept in the first round. lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=542782613 The White Steve Smith

James Harden put the shackles on Kobe last night

  • robb

The Lakers really f*cked up the coaching situation. They went from a coach who had a plan for everything, to a coach who has no idea what he’s doing and what he has to do. That doesn’t excuse Kobe though, he’s playing bad basketball, unintelligent basketball. I doubt there is a player who knows more about about the game than him, yet he’s playing like he knows nothing about it. And the lack of a PG of course it has to hurt them even more.

  • El Campeon

    Hahahaha Lovin the Kobe haters!
Respect the 5 time champ. Who’s your daddy!

  • http://juan.garcia@computershare.com POW

Playing bad = “Get a trade done!”
There’s always a reason with him… for all you “in the know”…

  • burnt_chicken

Kobe sure seems to be getting saltier with age. Dosen’t seem to have much respect for younger players, it seems. I do agree that KD is at a different lunch table, though. Durant’s in the buffet line, feasting, whereas Bean is straight liver n’ onions-ing off the senior’s menu…

  • http://juan.garcia@computershare.com POW

Yep… feasting on the Lakers and Mavs leftovers from the last two years. I’m sure his tired of that buffet line.

  • http://juan.garcia@computershare.com POW

“He’s” for all you nerds out there.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Mavs leftovers…that’s funny. Lakers are Mavs leftovers. After getting swept in the 2nd round, the Lakers will try to get younger and slash some payroll along the way. It’s clear they’re building around Bynum. Kobe is there to keep the Lakers interesting and sell tickets. lol

  • Everynowhere

lol what kobe really means: “I’m getting doubled every time I touch the ball. lets go back to the triangle offense.”

  • anynomous

well, from what I hear, help is on the way kobe in the form of Rasheed Wallace. But maybe those are just rumors.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

No it’s true. Rasheed is coming back.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Rasheed IS coming back, and i kinda can’t believe it.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    BOTH TEAMS PLAYED HARD!

I knew this day would come, when Kobe and Sheed became teammates. Click my name for proof.

  • http://www.slamonline.com TADOne

God I hope Kobe gets smart with Sheed and gets straight laid out. I could die happy after that

  • Justin G.

Sheed isn’t what they need. I don’t know if somehow getting Steve Nash would make them a contender (probably not) but it sure would alleviate a lot of their problems and he will feed the bigs all night.

  • SMIK

SLAM! where all the Kobe haters come to validate there hatred, clam down and appreciated the game of basketball. lets put this all in perspective, Kobe is 34 years of age and his body just cant do the things he was capable of doing 2 years prior, amazingly enough he is still playing at a considerably high level. I love Basketball as a whole and im still in amazement at what he can do at his age, 16 years in the league + (plus deep playoffs&finals&minutes logged) not alot of players come by like this not matter what, you cant take away that he is a 1st ballot future “HOF” and a 10 top player of all time.

  • http://slamonline cold as ice

    “YOUR WELCOME”

  • toosnitty

Somebody said Kobe is not the player he was 5 years ago… So why does he dominate the ball and jack up shots like it? Why has he gone full retard in order to get his own personal goals of getting the scoring title that Durant or Lebron will beat anyway. He is a clown to the highest order. Is he a great player.. yes. But he is probably the worst team player to step on the court. His 3 of his 5 rings came with the most dominant big man to ever play the game in his prime. He is and always has been a shot chucker that lives on the foul line to save his numbers “AYYY!”. He don’t even work for his fouls like Lebron and Wade who truly get hacked driving the lane. You put a hand up to high on Kobe and it’s a whistle.

  • Paul H

Kobe averaged 29, 7 and 6 on the most dominant playoff team In the post-jordan era (2000-2001 Lakers), yet people here seem to think he hung on to Shaqs coatails. Stupidity.

  • toosnitty

They played the 76ers I mean Iverson in the finals that year.

  • drudilly

Well, I agree that Kobe is taking some bad shots…I think he has to start getting closer, more efficient shots and reduce the number of perimeter shots he takes. His FG% has dropped off some due to the number of bad shots he’s taken. They also need to get Gasol and Bynum more involved because those guys have it going, that will open up the offense more. Kobe’s still my favorite player and to me, he’s still a top 2 player. The Lakers’ D is much improved but this offense is “Turrible.” They never had trouble scoring w/ the Triangle Offense. It would be nice to use that a lot more this season, THEN, transition to the Mike Brown offense next season when they have a full training camp and more than 10 practices in a season.

  • KHoliday

    I love LeBron man.

  • http://slamonline.com Tae

Someone said he doesnt work hard for his fouls like Lebron or Wade?? Wade is one of tha biggest if not tha biggest actors in tha NBA. Gtfoh

  • Stefano

Kobe is right, but the answer is very easy …. TRIANGLE OFFENSE …. Since the core of the team have already absorbed triangle principle is very difficult to change playing style …. Coach Brown is claiming that more reading action is implementing but they are far away from playing team basketball as teached by the Triangle
Everybody is saying that LA is old … the reason of fault is in the hands of management …… do you remember the age of Last dance Bulls (MJ, PIP, DENNIS and RON) …. how can be possible to loose Lamar and keep Metta …….. Management push out PHIL – that’s clear – but you have a core used with the triangle which maximize team game and tempo and a perfect substitute in house loved by core which could have won at least for 2 more years, and you dismatel it signing bunch of players which should have difficulties to play in europe …. If – LA bosses -you want to cancel everything PHIL related you have just to do 3 moves: trade Kobe, Paul and Derek … the way they are acting
… really nba fans are missing Phil the real last team game teacher and best basketball to watch …. we are already tired about 1on1 basketball which annoied us
