Mark Cuban: Shawn Marion Defensive Player of the Year Candidate

Mark Cuban is on the campaign trail for Shawn Marion, claiming that the Dallas Mavericks forward should be getting a serious look for the NBA’s top defensive honor. From ESPN: “Good news, NBA officials: Mark Cuban has found another subject he’s deemed worthy of a crusade. Cuban can’t believe small forward Shawn Marion, the swiss-army knife of the Dallas Mavericks’ defense, has never earned all-defense team recognition and is determined to do everything within his power to end that streak in the Matrix’s 13th NBA season. Actually, Cuban won’t be satisfied unless Marion gets serious consideration as a Defensive Player of the Year candidate. ‘It’s not a question if he’s first team,’ Cuban said during his pregame stairmaster workout Monday evening. ‘The only question is, outside of the center position like a Dwight Howard, is he Defensive Player of the Year? I mean, it’s hard to overlook how Dwight Howard plays defensively, but beyond that, who’s better? Name one.’”

I agree with Cuban on this, his defense was a big reason that they won the chip last year. Matrix was all over Durant,Westbrook Lebron, and Wade. I think it’s because he’s not really getting stats is almost like he’s doing the Bruce Bowen thing he’s just locking dudes up period.

But you still can’t go wrong with Tony Allen, Lebron, or D12. I just feel it’s time to reward someone for really playing defense, yeah D12 changes games, but he blocks 2 shots a game, and nobody on he’s team plays defense if thats the case include Deandre Jordan, and Javale McGee. Tony Allen is a junk yard dog, but it should be between him Marion, and Lebron this year.

The award always favors bigs, (locking someone down 4 four quarters isnt as flashy as blocking and ressuring a few shots near the rim) dwight has got it in the bag

You wanna know whose better then Shawn Marion? Dallas’ defense, without him. Can’t be a DPOY if the Defense gets better without you. Dallas w/ Shawn Marion gives up 102.8 Points Per 48 Minutes, Dallas w/out Shawn Marion gives up 92.3 Points Per 48 Minutes. HAHAHAHAHA GTFOH Cuban.

@Mooney10 Since when does Griffin play defense worthy of awarding him DPLOY?
Marion might not be worthy of the award completely, but Griffin sure as hell aint bro.
