Mo Williams Mad the Clippers Haven’t Given Him a Contract Extension

Mo Williams is angry about his contract status in Los Angeles, which he tells to an even angrier writer from the LA Times. Good times ensue: “I just want to know where I stand with the Clippers.’ Translation: He’s looking for a contract extension. Me, me, and me, he’s saying, as we sit down to talk about life without Billups, and why am I not surprised? He was upset when the Clippers acquired Paul and Billups, two future Hall of Famers to buoy a long-lost franchise. Everyone is talking about what it might mean to have the Clippers improve so quickly except for Williams, who wants to know, what about me? ‘I want to play,’ he says in explaining his attitude, but what he really means to say is, he wants to start. But aren’t Paul and Billups better players? ‘I’ll let you decide,’ Williams says. ‘They are teammates of mine, so I won’t say.’ I help him out: They are much better than you are. Now Billups is out, and Coach Vinny Del Negro is going with Randy Foye as his starter instead of Williams. Obvious question for Williams: Are you upset about this? ‘For this team I have a role,’ he says, ‘whether I accept it or not.’ […] He’s making $8.5 million to play for the Clippers and has a contract for next season that will bring him another $8.5 million. From this vantage point, it appears he’s standing on pretty firm ground. ‘If you have a girlfriend and she tells you she loves you every day, obviously you know she loves you,’ Williams says. So does he want the Clippers to tell him every day they love him? ‘The way they tell you they love you every day is by signing you to a contract extension,’ Williams says.”

he should just be happy he hasn’t been traded.

  • robb

    Go to the Lakers Mo.

  • LA Huey

This guy, man…He’s comical. That comment “But aren’t Paul and Billups better players? ‘I’ll let you decide,’ Williams says” sounds awfully subversive. I mean, Chris Paul is head, shoulders, waists, and knees above Mo. So it sounds like he thinks he should be starting over Chauncey. Mo can’t be counted on when the pressure is on. There were two reasons the Cavs got bounced by the Magic in ’09: Dwight caught fire (for his standards) from the charity stripe and Mo couldn’t knock down open shots.

    That whole article was hilarious.
TJ Simers, I’ll remember that name now.

Mo Williams needs to go sit in a corner somewhere.

  • Riggs

dude should consider himself lucky he’s on a good team. stfu and stop overestimating yourself. thank god i dont have to hear that freaking godfather music everytime he makes a shot anymore…

  • ibdb

wow and i thought after the latest comments from him and the gm that he is happy with his role…and now …little kid that overestimates himself…only team where he would start is NY cause they got nobody (i like lin since he played for the mavs in the summer league, but he needs another 1-2 years)

  • LP

if these contracts extensions pay for just the regular season, then yes, give him an extension. He will have to have a seperate contract for the playoffs, which MUST be performance based..incentive laden, as you guys would say….

  • Bt

Maybe you’ll get a contract extension if you show up for at least one playoff game in your career. Also cp3 and billups are better than you and its not even close

  • Nella

I knew Mo was a sensitive female, but even I can’t believe how long he runs his mouth in that interview. Just shut up dude and stop digging that hole your standing in. Dude wants starter money without the expectations/pressure that comes with needing to hit clutch shots.

  • http://slamonline.com. datkid

this is the worst interview he’s done since the time he said he didn’t wanna play basketball anymore when lebron left.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

oh man I forgot he said that. Mo Williams has taken over Shaq’s role as the league’s one man pity party.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

“CP is head, shoulders, waists, and knees above Mo” LOL. I’ve never heard that one before.

  • http://dodgers.com Joey E.

so Mo might be content with being a 6th man for the forseeable future? amazing how many good players are going to the bench without crying. Crawford, Harrington, LouWIll, Harden, MO this year, Odom accepted it.

  • http://dodgers.com Joey E.

…although Mo is kinda being stupid here. Still hasn’t asked to be traded even after the Clips brought in 2 great PGs

  • shutup

@Joey you forgot to mention Ginobili, alll this guy does is jack up shots like he’s eddie house Jr. he definitely le his one all-star-reserve-reserve go to his head, its sad to see such distension on this young team, they were poised for greatness, I saw them being contenders next year for the west crown, but with this type of cancer in the locker room, they have to trade him or nothing good will come of this situation

  • cy

Mo Williams mad – yep he is, you little chucker, you.

  • ClydeSays

This 2nd string guard is getting SEVENTEEN million to ride the bench over this season and next, and the only thing he can think to do is to beef about getting a contract extension. He should concentrate on investing every penny he has, because he’ll never see money like that again from any team.

If he was playing for anyone other that Donald Sterling, I’d probably feel bad for the owner/GM who had to deal with this. I wonder when Mo will start complaining he wasn’t picked as an All Star starter? Or that Lebron hasn’t called him lately…

  • DerekG

LOL! Mo is pathetic beyond belief!!!

  • http://www.blogspot.com LLC#12

I’ve been sick of emo williams since he cried over the LeBron departure…

  • LA Huey

To me, if you’re not a legit All-Star, 6th man is one of the best roles to be had in this league. The 6th man rarely gets fingers pointed at them when they don’t perform well but praised when they do. It’s the kind of role that’s perfect for Mo.

  • LA Huey

btw, did anyone actually read the article. It’s pretty funny how the writer follows up quotes from Mo by taking shots. It’s worth your 2 minutes.

  • AD

they need to trade him now……..

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com Enigmatic

    “Emo” Williams.
    Lol, I like that.
I wish my lawn was as emo as he is so it would cut itself in the summer…

  • tavoris

    @LLC 12 – spot on, brotha

  • patrick

    BULLS should trade for Williams!

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

Oh jeez, Mo’s talking like a jilted girlfriend again. Nobody’s gonna “show you love”, Mo. Only the really talented players get “love”. With players like you, it’s just business — when they need you, they use you, and when they don’t, they dump you.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k1jx3r4y1E dfrance21

All I want to know is, is he gonna start sucking now? Because he’s been pretty solid for my fantasy team, but I can look elsewhere. lol

This cat is so emotional. That was a funny article!

  • ab40

can’t get a contract extension? Blame LeBron.

  • bike

Mo, as long as you share the name of one of the three stooges, you will never get any respect.

  • dumMoe

Dump him! To preserve team chemistry Olshey should get rid off this moe if the Clippers want to excel. What a jerk!

  • Maniac

Lol Mo Williams, Mo Williams… What are we going to do with you?

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

Dear lord, for comedy’s sake, add JR Smith to this volatile mix.
    Please, i beg you.

  • BBaller

Why is he complaining? 8.5 mill a season! On a winning side! His track record should be enough proof that he needs to show management that he is worth extending. Mo just work hard and the extension will come, keep on like this and you end up in Toronto. ( No disrespect to T.dot)

  • chris

yea, I read the article- im surprised at the patience mo had with dude during the interview. I think mo’s settin himself up for failure tho by whining about starting. being a high scoring sixth man on a winning team is a trend that’s getting very popular and valuable around the league (if that player accepts it). jamal crawford was a shoot first point guard early in his career b4 atlanta- now teams wish they had his production off the bench. jason terry was the same way before dallas gave him the green light. james harden gets starters minutes, and produces. l.o. had his best years as a sixth man after he embraced the change. I think he’ll get moved b4 the deadline for some cap space that can go towards signing j.r. smith this year, or another 2 like demar derozan next year( idk if he’s a free agent after next year or not, but that would be sick puttin him alongside cp3, blake, dre, and caron).

  • Zabbah

    HoMo Williams.

  • jpm34

MO’s demented if he thinks hell get extention b4 Blake n CP3.

  • D.A.

    Dear Donald Sterling,
It is my birthday this year and as I only get one every 4 years, please grant me this extra special wish. Please trade this bum Mo Williams and DeAndre Jordan to Orlando for Dwight Howard, and then sign Gilbert Arenas at the mid-level exception and not J.R. Shootsalot. Or at least buy me a ticket to LA so I can personally punch you in the face if you dont.
