Monty Williams: Derrick Rose’ Bulls Nowhere Near Jordan’s Bulls

Derrick Rose may have led the Chicago Bulls to a last-minute victory over New Orleans last night, but Hornets’ head coach Monty Williams says these Bulls have a long way to go before they can even be mentioned in the same breath as those legendary, MJ-led squads. From the Chicago Tribune: “Some things really were better in the old days. Take the Bulls. If you think this Rose-colored group matches the excitement of the Jordan-era Bulls, you’d be wrong. That’s according to Hornets coach Monty Williams. ‘I don’t think it’s even close to that yet,’ he said before his team took the United Center floor Tuesday. ‘They do a really good job and they are on their way, but I played against (Michael) Jordan and (Scottie) Pippen and (Dennis) Rodman, and that was a different beast. If you didn’t watch yourself, when they called out Jordan’s name, you’d get caught up in it.’”

This is news…how exactly? Was anyone comparing the two teams in the first place because that would just plain be ridiculous. I can see maybe The Seed saying it because he’s an idiot but for anyone who actually has the smallest clue about basketball? Not a chance

That’s like saying Monty Williams coaching skills is nowhere near Phil Jackson coaching skills..

Considering like Scottie Pippen or someone said it last week and there was an article about it….

If Scottie said it, I think it’d hold more credibility for me than if Monty says the opposite.

Monty Williams is a really good coach. And spin is a mother.

For the uninformed, Scottie said this team reminded him of the LATE 80′s chicago bulls, NOT THE CHAMPIONSHIP BULLS, dennis rodman was no where near close to being on the bulls in late 80′s. Scottie was saying he see’s this team on the verge of something great.

i have actually heard alot of comparisons to the jordan era bulls. altho i am with monty on this one. rose is nowhere close to mj. and there is no 2nd hall of famer. and no legendary coach. and this bulls team is good and scary, but i would not say they are dominant whatsoever.

The current Bulls are nowhere near the old day Bulls. Monty’s right…those Bulls had an aura about them and they had a killer mentality. If they were up, they put the other team out of their misery. The current Bulls don’t really have that mentality. Sometimes they play down to their competition and let bad teams back in games. I think with time, and a few roster tweaks, they could get that killer instinct.

Didn’t they break a record for most point differential for a set number of games? How do they not “put teams out of their misery”?

He’s obviously right. and Monty Williams is a great coach.

  • Justin G.

I didn’t see the article last week so…

  • Larry W.

Maybe if Monty knew how to coach and control his team they might have won last nights game against the bulls…it was there for the taking but Montys guys were not up to the task.
