NBA All-Star Weekend Performers: J. Cole, Gym Class Heroes

The list of entertainers for the NBA All-Star Weekend in Orlando this month is starting to come together. The NY Daily News reports: “Gym Class Heroes and J. Cole will headline the first NBA All-Star pregame concert. Pentatonix and Kayla Brianna also will perform before tipoff on Feb. 26 at the Amway Center, home of the Orlando Magic. [...] Gym Class Heroes, led by Travie McCoy, will be joined by Neon Hitch on their single ‘Get Yourself Back Home.’ Rapper J. Cole, the first artist signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label, is a recent Grammy nominee. Pentatonix recently earned fame by winning ‘The Sing Off’ and Brianna, daughter of former NBA player Kenny Smith, will debut her single ‘If You Love Me.’”

GCH are still relevant, what? Lol, I love Cole but I was disappointed in his debut album though.

I too was disappointed in Cole, but not because the songs weren’t good, its just that half of the music was over a year old. Plus he has some mixtape songs that were better. I know the internet is a way of building your fan base, but these new artist give away waaaay too much music nowadays.

Yeah that & he didn’t stick to what made him gain fans, tracks like Grown/Young Simba, Lights Please, etc. He went too radio but Lost Ones, Daddy’s Little Girl, and Nobody’s Perfect were dope.

@dfrance i agree his album was not as good as his mixtapes….. he had to make radio songs for the album but his 3 mixtapes were tough

Biggest album dissapointment of the year for me. I feel he can turn it around, but Cole’s been gradually getting worse since the Warm up. His debut album was softer than tissue paper.

That’s the problem with getting with a major label. No matter how much an artist says they will stay true to themselves, the label will only put out what they want to put out. At least that’s true for these newer artist. Wale, Cole, Wiz, even Drake all, in my opinion, sounded much better when they were on the mixtape scene exclusively. But when this is your profession, the way you pay your bills, you’re gonna do what you have to do.

They destroyed Lupe, that’s for sure. Is it just me or do all the artists under GOOD music always stay true to their original craft?:/

With all the Linsanity going on, wouldn’t it be wise to maybe invite an Asian artest to the ASG? Like Change Cheng-Yue?
