NBA Suspends Kevin Love 2 Games for Stepping on Luis Scola’s Face

The NBA answered a question we posed this morning. Kevin Love has indeed been suspended for stepping on Luis Scola’s grill. From the Houston Chronicle: “The NBA struck back on Monday, hitting Timberwolves forward Kevin Love with a two-game suspension for ‘driving his foot into the upper body and face’ of Rockets forward Luis Scola Saturday in Minneapolis. Love will miss games Tuesday against the Kings at Target Center and Wednesday in Memphis.”

    YESSIR!

  • spit hot fiyah Posted: Feb.6 at 1:40 pm
honestly, how many games would artest or arenas have gotten?

  • Blake O Posted: Feb.6 at 1:42 pm
At least they got the “upper body” part right, finally. Definitely do not agree with suspension though. If Scola wanted he could have moved out of the way of love, and Love’s step still looks inadvertent. No Ill-intention here

  • LakeShow Posted: Feb.6 at 1:43 pm
^2… Sounds fair. Someone was hollering for 5. Wasn’t anything compared to a soft foul in the 80′s. It was dirty, but 2 games suspension is appropriate imo.

  • Max Posted: Feb.6 at 1:51 pm
Like I said, 2 games sounds about right.

  • Patrikkk Posted: Feb.6 at 1:52 pm
Whas about too buy a k love jersey…

  • RunNGun Posted: Feb.6 at 1:57 pm
Sounds about right but the only problem is that he didn’t step on his face; just review the replay. Also, they need to review the events that lead up to it. Anyway, that means more Derrick Williams on the court perhaps. Have to see what the #2 pick has.

  • T-Ray Posted: Feb.6 at 2:00 pm
I’d say it’s an appropriate amount of games.

  • Do Work Posted: Feb.6 at 2:10 pm
    unbelievable

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Feb.6 at 2:18 pm
How can people continue to use the rough play that went on during the 80s and early 90s as an excuse. I don’t remember Oakley, Lambieer or the X man stepping on player’s faces, so cut that “if it was in the 80s” crap out.

  • house Posted: Feb.6 at 2:25 pm
Fair punishment for very unsportsmanlike conduct.

  • Mike from Spain Posted: Feb.6 at 2:32 pm
    @Jtaylor21 I haven’t seen anyone stepping on someone’s face…

  • Rik Smits Mullet Posted: Feb.6 at 2:34 pm
fair suspension it looked dirty as hell.
To me it doesnt look like he hits his face more his upper body.
If love steps on your face while he is getting up the court you will have a broken nose at least.

  • Diesel Posted: Feb.6 at 3:00 pm
Considering it’s a condensed schedule, I’m ok with 2 games. Probably should have been 3.

  • LakeShow Posted: Feb.6 at 3:20 pm
“dirty as hell” REALLY? Man this ish happens in every game I play in. Wow.

  • RunNGun Posted: Feb.6 at 3:26 pm
@RIK SMITS not just a broken nose but a NIKE imprint too.

  • Spaceship Jay Posted: Feb.6 at 3:29 pm
Mmmm, younger generations; so soft and supple.

  • shutup Posted: Feb.6 at 3:42 pm
@lakeshow where do you play? kicking people when their down? that should never happen.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Feb.6 at 3:58 pm
Lakeshow is acting like he plays ball in sing sing.

  • LA Huey Posted: Feb.6 at 4:04 pm
Love’s feet mangled such a beautiful face. HE SHOULD GET 20 GAMES!

Don’t even know what that means. If LA and Seattle is sing sing then yeah… @Shutup, it’s your opinion that he “kicked” him while he was on the ground. Many people aren’t seeing it that way. Watch a HD version of what happened and you see Scola is acting all the way through both possessions. He is flopping and trying to trip Love while he is trying to run back. Dirty? Yes. Super dirty? ABSOLUTELY NOT… He may have meant to give him a little something extra with his foot but he wasn’t trying to collapse a lung or take someone head off while they are in the air. Much worse, dirtier, plays are made by NBA players nightly.

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.6 at 4:38 pm
I haven’t seen many dirtier plays than stepping on someone’s upper body while they are down and vulnerable.
Remember how outraged people were when Bruce Bowen karate kicked Wally Consonant?
Or when Reggie Evans grabbed Kaman’s oysters? I would say this is on the same level as those plays and those plays were unusual.
But, he did something stupid, and it’s over. I would prefer if every player’s indiscretions got the Kevin Love treatment. Stuff happens

  • LakeShow Posted: Feb.6 at 4:47 pm
Think about how bad that hurt Scola? You think he even has a mark on his face. A bruise on his chest? Dirty play? Yes, but calm down. This isn’t some player trying to punch another player, or fan. Just casual in game aggression. IMO, it is just as “dirty” to flop as much as Scola does. I like his game on offense, but holy smokes, dude is a flopping machine on D.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Feb.6 at 4:48 pm
Come on son, you expect me to believe that cats in LA and Seattle step on each other faces during a game every other day? Ok.

  • stlheatmaniac Posted: Feb.6 at 4:48 pm
i bet love hella mad he didnt stump scola even harder now that he got 2 games. Scola b floppin and playin dirty and love just got pissed. he shoulda river danced on dat boy face for his stupid hair do alone. watch Love jerseys sale double now. dis aint nothin we dont see in the hood erry day when i use to live in the hood at least. Scola should b grateful he just got stumped cause people get wrecked worse if u soccer kick em in tha dome. so love showed lots of mercy. good thats why he only got 2 games.

  • bike Posted: Feb.6 at 4:53 pm
Back in the good old days, that kind of thing would have been handled on the floor. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, revenge is a dish best served cold.

  • LakeShow Posted: Feb.6 at 5:06 pm
He stepped on his chest. Possibly not intentionally. And then got tripped enough to studder step and slightly brush his face with his shoe while Scola was on the ground from flopping like a Dolphin in a new warm lagoon for the first time. I can’t believe people are acting like this was done intentionally to hurt Scola. No blood, no foul. Much worse things happen from a physical damage point of view every game. Ever had another guy jam his hip into your thigh while going for a rebound? That hurts a thousand times more than a shoe brushing your face. Man oh man…

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.6 at 5:08 pm
Flopping is not as dirty as stepping on someone’s face. Wait are you serious?
I mean flopping is lame, but all players in the NBA flop. Jeff Van Gundy just explained the most common “flop” in the League which is the head whip back and loud scream. All players do that one, along with the exaggerated body motion when they get bumped on the perimeter.
None of that compares to stepping on a dude’s face/chest intentionally. It was just dirty. It was a bad decision. We can move on, but please stop minimizing or deflecting. Dude screwed up because people screw up. All people. Treat them justly.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Feb.6 at 5:09 pm
Love’s shoe “brushed” Scola’s face? Lakeshow….give up already, you’re just making a fool out of yourself.

  • unf*ckwitable Posted: Feb.6 at 5:23 pm
I once saw a dude get stabbed with a chair leg in a game…

  • unf*ckwitable Posted: Feb.6 at 5:23 pm
lol 2 games is ok with me.

  • LakeShow Posted: Feb.6 at 5:24 pm
AllenP with the subliminals. Good stuff lol. Click my name and watch. Dirty-ish. Ya’ll are acting like this is some “messed up sh*t.” I cannot believe stuff like this does not happen in numerous pick up games ya’ll must play in… Were not even disagreeing. We agree it’s dirty. Ya’ll are just acting like it was some Bynum vs Barea bull sh*t. Ain’t even on half that level.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Feb.6 at 5:29 pm
    tomfoolery

  • Allenp Posted: Feb.6 at 5:38 pm
the only reason it wasn’t on the Bynum level was because Bynum’s was almost premeditated, and there was a massive size difference.
Love didn’t plan on stepping on Scola’s face. But he was glad when the opportunity presented itself

  • loaf Posted: Feb.6 at 5:46 pm
Bynum on barea was ruthless, straight punishment

  • stlheatmaniac Posted: Feb.6 at 5:59 pm
@lakeshow i 1 million percent agree broski! bynum almost took ol boy soul wit dat judo elbow! see in hood people get wrecked like dat dailey and sometimes it just come out from how they use to b. Love owe scola one in my opinion. he should hit that boy wit that chuck liddell next time he see him

  • LakeShow Posted: Feb.6 at 6:17 pm
Agreed, Allen, and that’s huge. Bynum seemed as if he had put thought into how he was going to try and hurt a midget. Love was kinda like, “Well, since my foot is already here, might as well give this annoying (equally sized) euro cat a little something to remember.” IMO there just wasn’t enough “damage done” to be going in on Love like he is known for doing cheap plays like this on the regular.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Feb.6 at 6:26 pm
Bynum wasn’t known for dirty plays before that one on Barea but now he is. I bet Love doesn’t get labeled a dirty player after this. Oh…Love’s was much worse than Bynum.

  • sanman Posted: Feb.6 at 6:30 pm
Does this mean Kevin Love will get a contract with WWE???

  • LA Huey Posted: Feb.6 at 6:35 pm
The only reason I actually like Bruce Bowen is that he got away with a flying kick to the face of “Wally Consonant”.
btw, that “euro cat” is from Argentina.

  • LakeShow Posted: Feb.6 at 6:40 pm
Taylor? Is that you? You sounding a fool. You mean the Bynum that collapsed Gerald Wallace’s Lung? The Bynum that flagrant fouled the crap outta Michael B-Easy? That Bynum wasn’t known for a cheap shot? Hmmm.. What do you mean Love’s was much worse? WTF u talking about…

  • nbk Posted: Feb.6 at 6:40 pm
Bowen was great. He knew how he could be effective, and did it. Other then that he would have had a very short career.

  • LakeShow Posted: Feb.6 at 6:41 pm
Huey, totally forgot he was from Argentina. Was thinking Serbia or Italy or something. Dude looks like he could be from anywhere…

  • nbk Posted: Feb.6 at 6:43 pm
Bynum is extra dirty. And carelessly dirty. Love was motivationally dirty. I’ve seen much worse from guys retaliating shots to their little army factory. Bynum on the other hand is like a big giant six year old.

  • ripslam Posted: Feb.6 at 7:03 pm
“No blood, no foul”? Did someone actually just say that?

  • LaKid Posted: Feb.6 at 7:23 pm
Horrible. He got tripped up on him and had nowhere else to step. Was he just supposed to use the invisible step Scola put on his chest? And for god sakes Slam, watch the replay, since when is Scola’s face on his chest?

  • LakeShow Posted: Feb.6 at 7:33 pm
“giant 6 year old” soooo true…

  • Chukaz Posted: Feb.6 at 7:36 pm
Kevin Love’s gotta look on the bright side. He got an important lesson. Now he knows that when you stomp the yard, you can’t do it on people’s faces

  • 23 Posted: Feb.6 at 7:49 pm
From what I see, love stepped on his chest. And it wasn’t a stomp. And it looked like love hesitated, but since scola didn’t bother moving out of the way love just didn’t care. Basically scola baited love into this, and love fell right into scola’s trap

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Feb.6 at 7:56 pm
Aye…I’m not defending Bynum’s actions and unlike you, not downplaying it. I wonder if you and most of the comments I’ve seen on the net would be defending love with such passion if the guy was from a different background.

  • unf*ckwitable Posted: Feb.6 at 8:03 pm
    When in doubt call racism.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Feb.6 at 8:06 pm
Bynum got what, 5 for that forearm shiver on Barea? He ended up sitting out four. Love should have gotten at least 3, imo. But Bynum was a repeat offender–he had been doing that forearm cheapshot for a LONG time before he was finally suspended.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Feb.6 at 8:06 pm
Anyone who thinks Kevin Love stepped on another man’s f*cking face by accident is seriously deluded.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Feb.6 at 8:09 pm
@ Lakeshow: Were you watching the game live when it happened? Youtube videos and subsequent replays don’t actually show the entire line of action. Love rips at Scola’s arms, throwing him to the ground, and then pauses, and then takes a step on his FACE. I mean seriously… If you’re gonna make a point do what Iverson did and step OVER him. And if you must stomp, do it away from the face. Have some stomping decency.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Feb.6 at 8:10 pm
Why not? It still plays a big role in today’s world.

  • burnt_chicken Posted: Feb.6 at 8:45 pm
jtaylor: I think you are missing a big part of the equation here in terms of the majority of comments you are reacting to: It was an AMERICAN player stomping a NON-American player. Don’t underestimate the xenophobe-ish aspect to this act in order to focus on another form of equally heinous (and eminantly relateable) discrimination.

  • burnt_chicken Posted: Feb.6 at 8:46 pm
most of the yahoos think Argentina is in Europe for f k’s sake.

  • burnt_chicken Posted: Feb.6 at 9:50 pm
    *eminently

  • unf*ckwitable Posted: Feb.6 at 10:11 pm
It does Jtaylor but not in this case i dont think, not for me anyway, maybe for you it is though. I just dont see stepping on someone as that bad in terms of the potential for injury compared to say Bynum smashing JJ. Its not like he stomped the motherf*cker out, he stepped on him, and imo if you look at it he does pause and see Scola then Lifts his foot about the smae time Scola raises his arms a bit so its about 80/20 it was accidental for mine. 20percent chance its an accident.

  • shutup Posted: Feb.6 at 10:16 pm
Ive seen dirty plays in many pick up games sh!t I used to have a move called the porkchop sorta like an elbow high drop step I learned from watchin Franchise (R.I.P.), sh!t i got my eyebrow split in a league game at the 4th, got that sh!t butterflied and still made the free throws, but stepping on someone is a bit much , I should know I once stepped on this dope fiend because he kept stumblin on the court. and once he referenced getting hit in the b@llz you gotta see he meant to do it. Other than that I hate flopping with a passion (the resaon I hate Ben Wallace soooo much) and Bynum is a dirty player and has been for a minute now. and no blood no foul is a creedo many people just dont understand anymore; I wasnt tryin to call you out by asking where you play I was just curious cause I’ve played on some rough courts never seen a stomp on a downed player, seen a bum get hit in the head with a milk crate over a rock, so I was just curious…. because since I moved out west “contact” is a foreign concept

sorry for the double post, phone is actin stupid

  • jacuuli Posted: Feb.6 at 10:55 pm
He should have never thrown the basketball at Love’s nuts the game before or so

  • Charles Breen Posted: Feb.6 at 11:06 pm
I honestly think he did it in accident

  • Gametimeweezy Posted: Feb.6 at 11:49 pm
He could of tried to avoid him. I’ve been caught up in the heat of battle, but I’d never do that to another man. It was wrong. What he did deserves 5 games minimum.

  • unf*ckwitable Posted: Feb.6 at 11:58 pm
    Linsanity!!!

Step in the name of Love. Step in the name of Lo-o-ove.
STEP IN THE NAME OF LOVE

  • EJ Posted: Feb.7 at 2:27 am
Everybody downplaying this just shut up. Since when has kicking somebody in the face when they’re down been considered a rough physical play? That’s just cheap.

  • Justin G. Posted: Feb.7 at 3:22 am
Wow Lakeshow, you are really looking like a fool here. The “Much worse, dirtier, plays are made by NBA players nightly” line is laughable. If that were true guys would be getting suspended every night. And @stlheatmaniac…I wonder if you realize how much of an idiot you come across as with your unreadable ebonics posts. Anyone who writes “dis” or “dat” or “wit dat” shouldn’t be allowed near a typewriter. As for the suspension, two games is enough I guess but I would have rather seen 3 or 4. That crap has no place in basketball no matter what someone has done to you during the game or in past games

  • JP7 Posted: Feb.7 at 4:29 am
i was happy to see this happen, call me foul if u must. the way most deez new nba dudes always be actin soft sometimes makes me sick. get smoked in the face then look for the ref like a lil punk look for his moms or a teacher, hit back my dude lol or dudes wanna get real hyphy exactly when its a gang o dudes holdin em back hahaha classic softy behaviour. dudes be runnin up the middle tuff and nobody got the balls to knock dat man down, like how kobe get 81 on tdot and aint one raptor foul out, wheres the pride? charles oakley tell deez dudes man, its real serious out here, life bin rough boy

  • Nick Posted: Feb.7 at 4:50 am
    well deserved.

  • Justin G. Posted: Feb.7 at 8:20 am
Uhhh…when they get smoked in the face and look to the ref it’s because it’s a foul idiot! You hit back and you get T’d up and thrown out of the game with an automatic one game suspension. Never mind. I have to stop wasting my time with this guy

  • JP7 Posted: Feb.7 at 8:35 am
dis ninja. thats the whole point guy, forget the tech or suspension or wtvr, be a man bout ur biz and dudes wont wanna mess wid you. if ur at ur job and ur co worker punks you out super tuff or hits you, what u gonna do? look for the supervisor and rat him out? then go back the nex day wid a black eye meanwhile dudes still theyre cuz he got senority, knowin ur a rat punk squidbilly goof show? i hope not.
